Based on customer reviews, Flower Brook Mifen House presents an opportunity to experience truly authentic Chinese food in Flushing. One reviewer, whose son specifically sought "authentic" Chinese flavors, described the restaurant as a "real gem." Initially perceived as a small noodle house, the reviewer was pleasantly surprised by the "rich and diverse menu" available. This suggests that Flower Brook Mifen House offers a wider selection of dishes beyond just noodles, catering to various tastes and preferences.
A notable feature of Flower Brook Mifen House is its specialization in southwestern Chinese cuisine, which is known for its bold and often spicy flavors. However, the menu also thoughtfully includes dishes from northern China, such as the highly praised Shaanxi hamburger, also known as "marinated meat in baked bun" (肉夾饃). This particular dish received a glowing review, with the son of the customer describing it as "delicious," highlighting the crispy bun and perfectly cooked braised pork filling. This indicates that Flower Brook Mifen House excels in preparing regional specialties that are both authentic and satisfying.
The experience of ordering the vegetarian Mifen (rice noodle) in a clay pot was also noteworthy. The reviewer expressed surprise at the generous size of the serving, which was large enough to potentially feed a family, contrasting with the expectation of a smaller portion. While the noodle soup was described as "a bit on the bland side," the availability of seasonings on the table allowed for customization to individual preferences. This suggests that Flower Brook Mifen House provides the base for a flavorful meal, empowering diners to adjust the taste according to their liking.
For those with adventurous palates, Flower Brook Mifen House offers "Stinky Tofu" (臭豆腐), a pungent fermented tofu dish fried crispy and served with a dipping sauce. Interestingly, a reviewer who typically avoids strong smells found this version surprisingly pleasant, noting that it didn't have a strong odor but possessed a "really nice" taste. This could be a testament to the skillful preparation of this unique dish, potentially making it more approachable for those who might usually be hesitant to try it.
Another highlight mentioned was the "sliced lamb mifen," which was enthusiastically enjoyed by the reviewer's son. This further emphasizes the restaurant's strength in preparing mifen dishes, a staple in southwestern Chinese cuisine. Additionally, the "fish fillet in hot chilli oil" (水煮魚) was described as being infused with Szechuan peppercorn, creating a tingling sensation on the tongue and throat, characteristic of authentic Szechuan flavors. The portion size of this dish was also noted as generous, with enough left over for another meal, underscoring the value offered at Flower Brook Mifen House.
The pricing at Flower Brook Mifen House is described as "modest" relative to the generous portion sizes, suggesting that diners can enjoy authentic and flavorful Chinese cuisine without breaking the bank. This combination of quality and affordability makes Flower Brook Mifen House an attractive option for local users in Flushing.
It is important to note, as pointed out by a reviewer, that the menu available online may be incomplete. Many of the dishes ordered during their visit were not found on the internet menu. This suggests that the full range of offerings at Flower Brook Mifen House might be more extensive and diverse than what is currently visible online. Therefore, local users are encouraged to inquire directly with the restaurant about their complete menu, either by phone or in person.

Really good Chinese food. Might be difficult to know exactly what you’re ordering unless you can read the Chinese menu, but probably can’t go wrong with anything!
My son has been wanting to taste "authentic" Chinese food in Flushing for a long time, and a trip to JFK took us there. This place is a real gem - we had thought that it was a small noodle house, so were pleasantly surprised to see that they had a rich and diverse menu. Although specializing mostly in southwestern Chinese cuisine, the menu also features certain northern flavors, such as the famous Shaanxi hamburger "marinated meat in baked bun"(肉夾饃). My son ordered one and claimed it was delicious - the bun had a crispy shell and the braised pork inside was cooked to perfection. I ordered the vegetarian Mifen (rice noodle) in a clay pot. I thought it would come out in a petite jar, but it was in a real size POT that could feed a whole family! The noodle soup was a bit on the bland side, but with the line up of seasonings on the table, I customized my own flavors. My son loves "Stinky Tofu" - in this version, it was pungent fermented tofu fried crispy on the outside in a dipping sauce. Although I generally stay clear of strong smells (I avoid durian at all cost), this plate of tofu was a nice surprise! It didn't smell much but tasted really nice. My son chose the "sliced lamb mifen", which he consumed with gusto. We also ordered "fish fillet in hot chilli oil" (水煮魚), which was infused with Szechuan peppercorn that left one's tongue and throat tingling. The portions were generous for the modest pricing, we packed most of the fish dish home for our next dinner. p.s. The menu on the internet is incomplete. I could not find most of the dishes that we ordered.
I was not sure if I would like this place but I decided to give it a try and I am so glad that I did! I got the sliced lamb mifen which is lamb and noodle soup. There was a brown colored egg and lots of veggies in the soup also and oh my god every single bite was an explosion of flavor!!! Even just a bok choy or a spoonful of broth was just so incredibly delicious I couldn’t even believe it! I was wowed and will definitely be back!! Can’t wait to be wowed again. I also tried the minced pork mifen and the spicy cumin lamb burger and all was good. The burger was especially good after dipping into my soup broth. Also the atmosphere was very impressive given the tiny size of the place. The art on the walls was super cool and it felt awesome sitting down to eat there.
I’m impressed by this little restaurant. It’s nicely decorated. We ordered beef noodle soup and wonton. Both came out very delicious with good portion. The service was fast and friendly. We also bought their hand made dumplings. The owner was nice enough to find an insulation bag to keep the frozen dumplings cold for our travel. Will definitely come back when in this area.
This restaurant appears to be newly opened. Either that or the owner keeps it very clean, especially the restroom. It was a happy find because the menu is quite gluten friendly. The word "Mifen" translates to rice noodles. So my family all ordered various beef noodle soup as a standard comparison. The presentation was good. The broth was seasoned with fresh herbs. It could stand to have more body but sauces and pickles are provided to customize flavor. The cuisine apparently hails from Quizhou province with beef and mutton as main proteins. It also has spicy influence from Sichuan to the North and Hunan to the East.
