I’ve now been to both locations over the last 5 years. Several times. It’s been 50/50 with the good/bad experiences. I’ve given up on this hype, though. Most of the dishes are average to good, on their best days. On their off days, they can be average to poor. But, when you’re spending close to or over $50 on two dishes, it’s a dealbreaker. Eating here is part of the experience. I have yet to do so there’s a chance it could be better than takeout? Not for me though.
I recently dined at Flor de Mayo, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and truly accommodating. The staff made us feel welcomed and ensured that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The food was absolutely incredible, showcasing the rich and flavorful fusion of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine that Flor de Mayo is known for. We ordered the Lomo Salteado, which was a standout dish. The beef was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The mix of spices, fresh vegetables, and savory sauce created a perfect balance that made each bite better than the last. The dish was beautifully presented, and the portion size was generous, leaving us completely satisfied. The drinks were another highlight of the evening. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic cocktail or something more adventurous, the bar at Flor de Mayo does not disappoint. The cocktails were expertly crafted, with just the right blend of flavors to complement the meal. They added a nice touch to the overall dining experience. Overall, Flor de Mayo exceeded all expectations. The combination of amazing food, outstanding service, and delicious drinks made for an unforgettable night. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a casual dinner or celebrate a special occasion, Flor de Mayo is the place to be. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu!
TLDR: If you've never had Chino Latino - you're depriving yourself of some crazy good stuff. Large portions, even larger flavors. Broiled pork chop, lomo saltado, squid ink fried rice, seco de res. You're welcome. I've been eating at the Amsterdam location for years but recently I've been coming to this one. It's a family run spot with a full Chino Latino menu. Think a collision of Chinese and Peruvian/Spanish. They've got some straight up Spanish things, totally Chinese and in between. For starters, definitely try the papa arequipena. It's a Peruvian potato either cold or fried with this red pepper sauce and hard boiled eggs and olives. It's a very unique flavor. If you're there on the weekends, grab the shrimp stew. It's an ultra tasty shrimp soup with rice, corn, a bit of spice. The broiled pork chops are probably my favorite pork chops anywhere. They're brined incredibly well are dotted with chopped garlic that caramelizes under the flame. It's so insanely juicy. Squid ink fried rice is a must. It's a squid ink coated fried rice with ham, shrimp, pease and a unique ginger flavor. The lomo saltado you definitely need to get. Sliced steak in a stir-fried sauce with onions, tomato and french fries on top of rice. The other items I'd recommend are the seco de res, a cilantro-centric tender beef stew. The tallarin verde is a Peruvianish pesto pasta, it's great with the garlic shrimp. No matter how much good stuff I've eaten, Flor de Mayo is in my list of restaurants I love going to and bringing visitors to. It's something that's tough to find but it's a testament to the melting pot that NYC is.
Not what it used to be. Food was extremely mid. Fried chicken? Mid. White rice? Somehow mid. Beans? Tasted just like beans like no seasoning. Steak with onions + fried rice was the best thing I ate. But I’ve had just as good at the Chinese spot. The eggroll? A true fusion that idk what it was. Why does all the food have cinnamon? The Chinese spot where you pay $10 has better food. Don’t come here and pay $28 for it. Just go to your local Chinese spot. I’m now on the toilet sick just 15 minutes after finishing eating. The bathroom is gross and had graffiti all over it. Zero stars.
Lomo Saltado! I would greatly appreciate it if you could like my review. This is our preferred dining location whenever we visit Manhattan. We are confident that the food will always be delectable and fresh, and the service will be exceptional. I have been a regular customer of this establishment for many years, and they have consistently exceeded our expectations.
