According to one customer, the restaurant offers a nice and warm environment with friendly service. The food is described as fresh, made to order, delicious, and healthy, with a cozy atmosphere suitable for gatherings with friends and family.
However, another customer had a significantly negative experience, stating it was the worst Thai food they had ever tasted. They ordered Drunken Noodles with chicken, Pad See Ew with beef, and egg rolls, and found all the dishes to be severely lacking in flavor and quality. The Pad See Ew was described as missing essential flavors with rubbery meat, the Drunken Noodles as bland, and the egg roll as soggy and freezer-burned. This reviewer was extremely disappointed, especially after an unsatisfactory interaction with the chef over the phone who was unwilling to address their concerns or allow them to speak to a manager.
The restaurant also appears to function as a grocery store, though details about this aspect are limited in the provided reviews. The primary focus of the feedback is on the prepared food.
In summary, Five Star Thai Cuisine and Grocery in Crown Point has received contrasting reviews. While one customer praised the fresh and delicious food and cozy atmosphere, another reported a very poor experience with the taste and quality of multiple dishes and expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service. Potential customers should consider these differing opinions when deciding whether to dine here.

Nice and warm restaurant; they are so friendly. The food is fresh, made to order, and delicious. It has a cozy atmosphere, nice for spending time with friends and family enjoying delicious meals. The food is also healthy.
Sad to say, but this is by far the worst Thai food I’ve had in my 50+ years, and I’m not saying this to be mean. Today, my wife and I decided to try a new Thai restaurant for noodles. We love places like Wu’s House, Asparagus, and Spice Thai, so we found this spot on Google and ordered Drunken Noodles with chicken, Pad See Ew with beef, and egg rolls. Let me get straight to the point. As soon as she got home, my wife tasted the food and immediately said it wasn’t good—but she let me be the judge. I took a bite of each dish, followed by the egg roll (which I had to spit out). The Pad See Ew was completely off—missing all the usual flavors and elements, with a rubbery texture to the meat. The Drunken Noodles were, well, sober. They looked pale and, while not outright disgusting, had almost no flavor. It was like eating plain ramen noodles without the seasoning packet. The egg roll was soggy, flavorless, and tasted freezer-burned—I couldn’t even swallow it. I was extremely disappointed. Before writing this review, I called the restaurant to speak with a manager. Instead, the chef answered. After I explained my concerns, he refused to let me speak to a manager and insisted his food was good. I tried to explain that, as the chef, he’s naturally biased, but he just wanted to argue rather than offer a solution. I remained as polite as possible, telling him the food was simply bad. He apologized, which is a start, but at the end of the day, I spent my hard-earned money on food that went straight to the trash. Times are tough, and when you pay for something, you should get quality. I’ll be calling again until I speak with someone other than the cook—who, frankly, can’t cook. Oh. When I asked him if he knew 'B', the owner of Spice, he said yeah. I asked if he ever tried his food? He paused then said he had. His slight to Spice was "I don't use msg". Spice is 100 times better than his stuff with or without msg.
Food is decent quality. But, I will never return. Why? Because of the owners greed. After spending almost $40 on two entrees, and asking for a small container of the red chili siracha sauce for one of the to-go meals, I was told that they would have to charge me for the sauce. Now mind you, it’s not about the 50 cents coming out of my pocket. No, it’s the principle after spending nearly $20 per entree that the greed of this owner shines through. So, for the owner of 5-Star, I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at your restaurant every year for many years. That streak has now come to an end due to your shortsightedness as I will not be returning. This is due to the fact you are trying to nickel and dime your customers for condiments that should already be included with your increased high prices. In addition to that issue, one of the dishes ordered was supposed to have scrambled egg as part of the ingredients (Pad See Eiw), but that ingredient has been missing the last 2 times that dish was ordered. Could be due to the high cost of eggs and desire of the owner to increase his profit even more by excluding it from the recipe. While he may earn an extra 50 cents on the condiments, he’s lost hundreds of dollars from a customer who used to be a regular patron and who now will drive past 5 star Thai and visit a worthy competitor who understands that long term relationships generate more revenue than short term 50 cent containers of siracha.
First time here and it was great!!!! Service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious the curry was definitely my favorite. And I also wouldn’t mind spending any extra money for a sauce! I mean what’s a couple cents when it’s phenomenal food!
Ordering the food over the phone wasn't terrible...but I wish the quality and taste of the food were better. I had a taste for Thai food - specifically pad Thai which is one of my favorite dishes. I ordered that along with the Thai basil fried rice (was to be a bit spicy) and was severely disappointed. Both dishes tasted similar. If I was blindfolded I probably wouldn't be able to pick which was which. I didn't dine in - this was carry-out. The restaurant itself looks small.
