Five Spices House

Apr 2024: Family style dining with a nice open environment to enjoy a meal independently or with a big group. The spicy food feels good and not too overbearing but be prepared. Appetizers are quite delicious and had crispy crab rangoon with a yummy dipping sauce.

Food here is pretty amazing! The spicy pot was really good, we ordered a medium spicy and it was delicious. The things we think they need improvement are the service and cleanliness. Server was a bit rude and unfriendly. Having some kind of attitude to us. We also found that the glass of water has some unpleasant smell and not clean. The look from outside is reasonable clean but from what we see from the inside, plates and stains, I think they need to work on the cleanliness for the customer. It is a very tasty food, unfortunately the service and cleanliness are some things to work on. That’s the reason of my two stars.

Loved the food! Perfect spices, super tasty. Had the crab rangoon for appetizer, really good. Highly recommend the Mala noodle soup bowl. Also, loved the sichuan special cellophane noodles with minced pork. Definitely coming back again.

We ordered four dishes. The Chilled Chicken In Red Chili Sauce (口水鸡) was the best one. It's flavorful and not too salty. It's chicken with bone in. Pea Pod Stem With Garlic (蒜炒豆苗) was very light and you could taste the natural flavor of the pea stem. Definitely one of my favorite dishes. The reason I give it a four star is the other two dishes and the price. The Tea Smoked Duck (樟茶鸭) was too salty and the Clam With Black Bean Sauce (豆豉炒花蜆) was too sweet. The price is definitely on the higher side. Three of us barely had enough to eat and it's about $87 before tips.

Food was fine, but service was genuinely bad. Our waitress was rude and aggressive. We tried to leave a small tip, but she stopped us as we stood up to leave and all but forced us to change the tip to the minimum 18%. She had another copy of the receipt ready as if this is something that happens often. Just very bizarre behavior.
