About Fifty One
Fifty One, located at 9540 Washington Blvd in Culver City, is a Chinese Restaurant that has received mixed reviews from customers. It appears to offer a happy hour and also participates in events like DineLA.
One reviewer highly recommends Fifty One's happy hour, noting that all appetizers and drinks are half-off. They reported ordering a significant portion of the appetizer menu and found the dishes to be awesome, with good-sized portions that were tasty and fresh. This customer's experience during happy hour was very positive, with a substantial order of five appetizers and two glasses of wine costing under $50. They specifically suggest visiting during happy hour.
In contrast, another customer who visited during DineLA had a less favorable experience. They expressed a desire to like the restaurant but felt it did not meet expectations. A significant issue was the unusual plating, where all eight dishes, including a cold dessert, were served simultaneously, leading to a strange experience of having dessert alongside appetizers.
Regarding the food itself during the DineLA event, the reviewer found it to be very average and lacking in flavor, stating that the presentation was better than the taste. A particular disappointment was the lobster, described as some of the worst they had ever had, being overcooked and rubbery, making it difficult to remove from the shell. A highlight for this reviewer was a sesame cake/custard, which they found very good.
The decor and vibe inside the restaurant were noted as nice, with plenty of space between tables. Despite the appealing ambiance, this customer concluded that the restaurant did not "hit the mark" in terms of food quality and would not recommend it.
Based on these reviews, Fifty One seems to offer a potentially excellent value and experience during its happy hour, with tasty and fresh appetizers and discounted drinks. However, experiences during special events like DineLA may vary significantly, with concerns raised about plating and the flavor and quality of some dishes, particularly seafood. Local users considering Fifty One should weigh these contrasting opinions, perhaps considering a visit during happy hour based on the positive feedback for that specific offering.

Went in on a Monday night for happy hour before heading to the pub/bar next door which shows the football. We got there just after 4pm and were next door by kickoff at 5:15pm. The best happy hour. All appetizers and drinks are 1/2 off. We ordered one of basically everything on the appetizer menu and it was awesome. Good size portions, tasty and fresh. We ordered 5 dishes and 2 glasses of wine and it came to under $50. Highly recommend during happy hour.
Came here for DineLA and wanted to love this place but… it does not stack up. First off, the plating is wild. We were served all 8 dishes, including a cold dessert at the SAME TIME. Dessert as we are getting an app was strange. Then for the food, very average and not flavorful. Honestly it all looked better than it tasted. Lobster was some of the worst i’ve had. Could barely remove it from the shell it was overcooked and rubbery. Highlight was a sesame cake / custard that was very good. Decor and vibe inside is nice, lots of space between tables. As I said, you walk in and want to like the place but it doesn’t hit the mark. I would not recommend.
If you are looking for fresh qualitative food, this is not the place. If you are looking for quantitative food with lots and lots of options and a nice big space to hang out with Friends, this is the place. Service was really good for us, although we went during very off hours. So hard to say how peak times will be. We ordered lettuce wrap, Xiao long bao, and wonton soup. Lettuce wrap came out after couple minutes. Chicken was so spongy. The texture didn't even feel like chicken. Taste was good, but it was not fresh and I didn't eat a lot to avoid any stomach issues. Wonton soup was the worst. It came with beef and chicken chunks. Absolutely stale, dry, and overly chewy chunks of meat. I literally removed every single pieces of meat from my bowl. Then dug into wonton and it was the worst. I spit half bite off my mouth. After that I had few spoons of soup and that's it. Xiao long bao was good. Food experience was not the best for us. It's a very nice place in a gem location, but their food and it's quality is not I'd ever go back for. I don't think we will go back.
I stopped by during happy hour. I walked in and waited for about 5 minutes even though they weren't busy at all. One person was there. I finally was seated and looked over the menu. The table was disgusting. I understand normally wear and tear but this was sauce/ food. I was brought a glass that was dirty and had a lip stick residue on it. So I didn't drink it. Then I was brought a champagne glass that had the same thing. I drunk straight from the bottle. The plate was dirt and had hair on it. So I decided that I couldn't trust the food. They only out one happy hour drink in my tab and the rest was charge regular. I felt very rushed. I can see why the place is empty.
We love this place! The half off dim sum is SUCH A STEAL and delicious, too! Plus, they are dog friendly with their outdoor seating and always bring our pup water! I also loved their 51 noodles but that’s not on the menu anymore but that’s ok because now I eat the delicious dim sum! They also have great options for our vegan friends!
