With a nice selection of items to try, this bistro presents a modern approach to a traditional dish. Fennel Bistro Clay Pot Rice is particularly recommended for those interested in trying clay pot rice. Customers have noted the "nice selection of items" available, indicating a variety of options to cater to different preferences. This focus on clay pot rice suggests that it is a signature dish and a must-try for visitors. The modern cooking methods employed allow for quicker preparation times, making it a viable option even for a lunch break. Instead of the traditional longer cooking time, customers can enjoy steaming hot clay pot rice, often featuring Chinese preserved meats and the coveted crispy golden crust at the bottom, in approximately 10 minutes.
The physical space of Fennel Bistro is described as "small," with seating primarily arranged for parties of four using bench seating. While accommodating parties of five is possible by adding a chair, it might lead to obstructing the walkway, suggesting that larger groups might find seating arrangements challenging indoors. However, the bistro also offers a "bigger outdoor space," which could be a more suitable option for larger gatherings. Parking is reported to be "easy," which is a significant convenience for diners.
The service at Fennel Bistro is generally well-regarded, with staff described as "good" and "friendly." While there is a mention of "limited English" proficiency among the staff, the restaurant has implemented a practical solution through an iPad-based menu ordering system. This system allows users to switch between Chinese and English, facilitating easier ordering for a diverse clientele. However, it is noted that some of the English translations might be "a bit weird," so a little flexibility or familiarity with Chinese cuisine might be helpful.
The menu at Fennel Bistro offers more than just clay pot rice. One customer tried the "pork belly appetizer," which was described as different from the typical expectation. It was noted for its chewy texture, good spicy powder, and dip. While the reviewer found it "good," they also mentioned they "probably wouldn’t order again," providing an honest insight into one of their non-signature offerings.
For main courses, particularly the "clamor dish" (likely a typo and intended to be a specific dish name), it is mentioned that it comes with a choice of soup or dessert, adding value to the meal. Two specific clay pot rice dishes were highlighted: the "black bean sauce short rib" and the "braised brisket short rib." Both were described as "delicious" and providing a "good amount of protein." The meats were noted to be "tender" and "full of flavor." A distinction was made between the two, with the pork ribs being more savory and the braised brisket leaning towards the sweeter side. It is important to note that the portions of these clay pot rice dishes are "definitely more for individual," and customers planning to share should consider ordering multiple dishes.
Considering the price point, one reviewer felt that it offered "good value and fair" pricing, especially given the quality and portion size for individual servings. The rice itself, a crucial component of clay pot rice, was described as "good," with a recommendation to mix it well to enjoy the "crispy rice from the pot," a sought-after element of this dish.
The dessert options at Fennel Bistro were described as "fine," with different characteristics to suit various preferences. The "hot dessert" was noted for having a "nice touch of sweetness." For those who prefer sweeter options, the "cold one" was recommended as it is "more refreshing" and includes "lots of fruits and sweetness." The reviewer enjoyed both, indicating a satisfactory end to the meal.
Overall, the customer feedback suggests that Fennel Bistro Clay Pot Rice is a worthwhile spot to visit, particularly when craving clay pot rice. The friendly service and reasonable prices, especially for lunch, are also highlighted as positive aspects. The modern approach to preparing clay pot rice allows for a quicker service without compromising the quality and traditional elements of the dish, such as the crispy rice bottom.
In terms of the environment, Fennel Bistro is described as small with limited indoor seating, primarily for smaller groups. However, the availability of a larger outdoor space provides an alternative for bigger parties. The easy parking is a significant convenience for customers driving to the location.
The services offered by Fennel Bistro Clay Pot Rice include dine-in, and the quick preparation of their signature dish suggests efficiency in the kitchen. While takeout and delivery options are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, local users may want to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about these services.
The key features of Fennel Bistro Clay Pot Rice are its specialization in clay pot rice prepared with modern, time-efficient methods, the variety of options available, and the generous, individually-sized portions. The friendly service, iPad-based ordering system with multilingual support, and the availability of an outdoor seating area are also notable aspects. The inclusion of a soup or dessert with certain main dishes adds value to the meal.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews for Fennel Bistro Clay Pot Rice. Customers did not report any discounts or special offers during their visits. This place is good if you’d like to try clay pot rice. They have a nice selection of items for you to try. The place is small, seating is pretty much set for 4 people per table with their bench seating. They can bring a chair if you have 5, but you tend to be blocking the walkway. it can be difficult to come with a larger party, but they do also have a bigger outdoor space. Parking is easy. Service is good, staff is friendly. Limited English, but luckily the menu ordering is on the iPad and you can swap between Chinese and English (though some of the English translations are a bit weird) We ordered the pork belly appetizer but it wasn’t the normal pork belly you may be thinking of. It was chewy, good spicy powder and dip. Probably wouldn’t order again but it was good. If you order a clamor dish, it comes with a soup or dessert. We got the black bean sauce short rib and the braised brisket short rib. Both delicious and good amount of protein. Tender meats, and full of flavor. The pork ribs are more savory while the braised brisket is on the sweeter. Portions are definitely more for individual, order multiple if you plan to share. For the price, I think it’s good value and fair. Rice is good, mix it well, I love the crispy rice from the pot. Desserts were fine, depending on what you prefer. The hot dessert is nice with a touch of sweetness. If you like sweet desserts, get the cold one as it’s more refreshing, lots of fruits and sweetness. I liked both. We’ll be back again when we’re craving clay pot rice and I’ll try something else next time
Modern cooking methods have made clay pot rice available as a lunch option. Instead of waiting over half an hour, you can now get it within 10 minutes—complete with steaming hot Chinese preserved meats and that perfect golden crust at the bottom. Friendly service and reasonable priced, a great spot for lunch.
This was the first time I was able to try this place in this plaza. It is located right next to Starbucks. If you want to eat Clay Pot, this is a really good place to have it. I wish the bowls were bigger for the price that you pay, but it actually also comes with a bowl of soup which is really good. They only have 1 or 2 people working, and just a heads up if you have more then 4 people, plan ahead, because most of the seats are usually for 4 people, unless you want to sit outside in their patio. The table comes with a bottle of filtered cold water, and they do have high chairs if you have kids. What is nice is that they have packets of napkins at the table, so you wouldn’t have to keep asking for it. We ordered the Crispy Beef Noodle Soup, The Dry Noodles, Unagi, Sweet and Sour Pork Clay Pot, and the Appetizer with cold noodles and chili oil. I didnt get a picture of the menu due to their tablet/ phone ordering service which also makes the experience more convenient. If you like clay pots and herbal soup, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try! Until next time!
Good clay pot spot if you look for it. They offer free soup or dessert if ordered clay pot rice. Prices here are decent. We ordered House Preserved Meat and Japanese Eel Rice which is pretty good especially having rice scorch. The Nuts Chicken Soup is very good and strong as well. Braised Pork Ear is good, and portions are big. Recommend anyone who wants to have clay pot rice for old school settings.
I really enjoyed the clay pot rice dish they serve, very special and tasty. For $16.99, you get 1 clay pot rice and 1 soup, super good quality with good price! I highly recommend their appetizer, you can’t go wrong with any of these, you have to check it out!
