About Farmer's
Welcome to Farmer's, a local Chinese restaurant situated at 1692 86th St in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York (NY 11214). As a Chinese Restaurant specializing in Cantonese cuisine, Farmer's aims to provide classic and delicious dishes at prices that are accessible to the local community. You can reach them at (718) 236-8883 or their mobile number +1 718-236-8883 to inquire about their menu or place an order for take-out.
Customer reviews offer a mixed perspective on the dining experience at Farmer's. While some patrons praise the food and value, others have raised concerns regarding cleanliness and consistency. It's important for potential customers to consider these varying experiences when deciding whether to patronize Farmer's.
One reviewer described the food as "decent" but reported a concerning incident of finding "a bug" in their food. This is a significant issue that potential customers should be aware of. The same reviewer also noted that "the area is quite dirty and is wet everywhere," suggesting potential hygiene concerns regarding the restaurant's surroundings or possibly the interior as well. On a more positive note, this reviewer did mention that there are "lots of options to choose from," indicating a diverse menu.
In contrast, another customer lauded Farmer's for offering "classic delicious Cantonese food at affordable prices." They specifically highlighted the value of the "lunch special," stating that it "can't be beat." This suggests that Farmer's may be particularly appealing for those seeking budget-friendly lunch options featuring traditional Cantonese flavors.
This same reviewer later provided updates focusing on a specific dish, seemingly a fried rice dish with shrimp, chicken, and eggplant (indicated by the emojis π§ π π π, where the fish emoji likely represents shrimp due to common culinary associations). The first update enthusiastically stated that these ingredients "complemented the fried rice = π. Must tried!" This strongly recommends the fried rice with these particular ingredients as a flavorful and enjoyable dish.
The reviewer went on to commend the chef's skill specifically in preparing fried rice, giving a "ππ―" rating and describing it as "not oily," with the rice grains being "loose not sticking together," and neither "hard / nor wet." They further praised it for being "packed with flavors," indicating a high level of culinary expertise in this particular Cantonese staple.
However, a subsequent update from the same reviewer presented a contrasting experience. They noted that "a couple of time after," the same dish (π§ π π π) was "very oily," leading to the speculation that "it's probably not the same chef." This significant inconsistency in the preparation of a highly recommended dish raises concerns about the reliability of food quality, potentially depending on who is cooking on a given day.
Considering these reviews, Farmer's appears to be a Chinese Restaurant in Brooklyn offering classic Cantonese cuisine at affordable prices, with a particularly noteworthy lunch special. The chef seems to be skilled in preparing fried rice, with one customer initially raving about a specific combination of ingredients being exceptionally flavorful and well-prepared (not oily, loose grains). However, there are significant concerns raised by another reviewer regarding cleanliness, both of the surroundings and potentially the food itself (reporting a bug). Additionally, the inconsistency in the quality of the fried rice on subsequent visits, as reported by the initially positive reviewer, suggests a potential lack of consistent culinary execution.
For local users in the Bensonhurst area of Brooklyn looking for affordable Cantonese food and a potentially excellent lunch special, Farmer's might be an option to consider. The fried rice, when prepared well, seems to be a standout dish. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported issues concerning cleanliness and the inconsistency in food quality, particularly with the fried rice on different occasions. It might be prudent to inquire about the preparation of specific dishes when ordering and to consider the overall cleanliness of the establishment if dining in or picking up food.
Given the contrasting feedback, it is difficult to form a definitive overall assessment of Farmer's. The affordability and the potential for delicious, classic Cantonese dishes, especially the fried rice, are definite positives. However, the serious concerns about hygiene and the reported inconsistency in food preparation are significant drawbacks that potential customers should weigh carefully. It may be beneficial for those interested in trying Farmer's to visit during a busy lunch hour when the praised lunch special is likely being prepared and to assess the cleanliness of the environment for themselves. As with any restaurant with mixed reviews, individual experiences may vary.

The food is decent but had a bug in my food onceβ¦.. The area is quite dirty and is wet everywhere. There are lots of options to choose from.
Classic delicious Cantonese food at affordable prices. You can't beat their lunch special. Update: π§ π π π complemented the fried rice = π. Must tried! The chef is highly skilled at fried rice. ππ― It's not oily, rice are loose not sticking together, not hard / nor wet. Is packed with flavors. Update 2: a couple of time after, the π§ π π π is very oily. It's probably not the same chef.
Their lobster sticky rice is pretty good! The vibes are pretty lowkey and no frills, but the food is decent. Their mayo prawns and broccoli is delicious as well. We often order take out from here and mix some additional rice to their sticky rice to balance out the flavor. Overall would recommend for a big family dinner, classic Cantonese style!
This place is a hidden gem for amazing Chinese (Cantonese) food π the location is very small so it is advised to call ahead of time to reserve if you have a big party. Been here many times already and everything is always delicious. The serving sizes are large so perfect for groups and amazing service. My favorite dish is the Walnut Shrimp and this place is by far my favorite place to get them! This place is a must for that authentic Chinese food. Do not let those negative reviews sway you because I don't know where they came from. They are wrong. Trust me. P.S. The Ginger Chicken here is also delicious!
Nice place for some simple Chinese food. They have a large variety of lunch specials (dish over rice), and two types of lunch specials ($5.75 for a container of half white rice and then the other half with the dish of choice; $8.25 for a full container of the dish and then a large white rice on the side and a cup of soup). I tried their fried fish paste stir fried with pickled cabbage (the $8.25 lunch special), their sweet and sour pork, their sesame chicken (not a lunch special) as well as their beef Stew with fried bean curd. All were pretty decent and tasty. It's alot of food for a decent price too, so a good place for lunchπ.
