Customer reviews present a varied picture of Far East Chinese Food. One reviewer described their overall experience as mediocre, with some dishes being tasteless. They noted that the value for money was generally good and the vegetables were very fresh. Specific dishes received differing ratings: Spring rolls were deemed terrible and tasteless, while the Vegetable Lo Mein was highly praised. Tofu in black bean sauce was considered tasteless and watery, the Chicken fried rice was a hit despite being light on chicken and slightly sticky, and the Bok Choy had great texture but no taste. The Beef with vegetables was watery but had a nice taste. This reviewer also reported a "horrendous" customer service experience, citing being yelled at on the phone and during pickup, and expressed concern about the cleanliness of the restaurant.

In contrast, another long-time customer considers Far East Chinese Food to be the "Best Chinese food in the West End," stating their family has been ordering from them for decades and nothing else compares. Their personal favorites include Cantonese chow mein, General Tao chicken, and egg rolls. This reviewer mentioned the downside of it being a cash-only establishment but understands this may help keep menu prices down.

Based on these reviews, Far East Chinese Food appears to offer a range of dishes with inconsistent quality according to some feedback. While praised for value and fresh vegetables by one reviewer and for specific dishes and overall quality by a long-term patron, there are also significant concerns raised about customer service and the cleanliness of the premises. It is also noted to be a cash-only business. Local users considering Far East Chinese Food for takeaway should weigh these contrasting opinions.

I really wanted to like this and there were some successes. Overall kinda mediocre. Food was hit and miss with some dishes tasteless. Customer service was horrendous. Value for money was good overall and vegetables were super fresh. If I went again we’ll avoid certain dishes and recommend you do too but there are some wins. - Spring rolls: $1 each: these are terrible. Small. Tasteless. Clearly frozen and bought in. 1/10 - Vegetable Lo Mein: actually really nice! Best part of the meal. 9/10 - Tofu in black bean sauce: completely tasteless and watery: 1/10. - Chicken fried rice: a little light on the amount of chicken and the rice was a bit sticky, but it was a hit overall with our family: 7/10 - Bok Choy: great texture but completely tasteless even though it is fried with garlic. Can’t hate it though as it was cooked well. 7/10. - Beef with vegetables: Very watery but, tasted nice. 8/10. Now, let’s talk about customer service. It’s horrendous! I got yelled at down the phone and then yelled at again when I came to pick up the order. I actually don’t care but, it’s not professional. 2/10. Forget all of the above… the restaurant is absolutely filthy. There is dirt everywhere. If the front is so gross, who knows what’s in the back. 1/10. Advice for management: put someone polite on order taking. Improve the quality of your frozen fried foods that you bring in. And give the front of house a wipe down.

Best Chinese food in the West End, no doubt. My family have literally been ordering from them since before I was born, and nothing else has ever quite compared. My personal favorites are the Cantonese chow mein, General Tao chicken, and the egg rolls are excellent. Only downside is paying with cash, but after working in small businesses, I know the debit card readers are expensive to keep. Helps keep costs on the menu down, however.

We just ordered our dinner from this restaurant today. It is the worst chinese food we have ever had. The chicken balls go mushy with watery sweet and sour sauce. The only thing that tasted okay was the rice. We ended up throwing most of it in the garbage. Obviously we will never order from this restaurant again.

Really really disappointed. Ordered the lunch special. It’s absolutely horrible, absolutely no flavor. 20 bucks wasted for two orders for some flavourless rice and soggy chicken balls. I returned and politely asked for a refund since the quality wasn’t up to par and was told she didn’t understand what a refund was and that she didn’t know of any other place that gave refunds when the customer wasn’t happy. Beware poor quality and poor service to boot. It’s too bad you can’t give 0 stars.

Grew up eating from this place. Canadianized Chinese food is hit and miss and different for everyone. Me and my family and friends really like Far East. The lo mein is more pasta-y with a mild flavour. The deep fried wontons are the best in the GTA. I suspect there is some lard in the oil they fry them in. Yum!
