The environment at Fang is described as having a "no pretentious, classy Chinese heritage vibe." This suggests a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, where diners can enjoy a refined setting without feeling overly formal. The presence of family share tables indicates that Fang is also well-suited for larger groups looking to enjoy a communal dining experience. Its proximity to cultural landmarks like the MoMA makes it a convenient choice for those seeking a memorable meal after a day of exploration and creativity.
The services at Fang are characterized by efficiency, with reviewers noting "fast service and quick food," a trait often associated with Chinese restaurants. However, what sets Fang apart is the exceptional quality of the cuisine. While the pace of service is efficient, the focus remains on delivering dishes that are "downright amazing," prepared with care and attention to detail. The staff is likely attentive to ensure a pleasant dining experience for all guests, whether they are individuals or part of larger groups at the share tables.
Fang's features are truly the highlights that draw both locals and visitors. The menu showcases a creative approach to Chinese flavors, with standout dishes that have garnered high praise. For vegetarian diners, the Vegetarian Fried Dumplings are a must-try, described as "crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside." Similarly, the Vegetarian Chow Mein offers a unique twist on a classic, served in a double-decker tealight heated bowl to maintain the perfect temperature. The noodles are noted for their delicious spice coating and are accompanied by fresh vegetables like lettuce, asparagus, and broccoli, creating a comforting and flavorful dish with subtle nuances.
For those who enjoy meat dishes, the Pork Buns and the Crispy Honey Short Rib with Bok Choy are consistently highlighted as "top notch choices." Both are praised for their contrasting textures, being crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The buns, in particular, are described as "soft and melt in your mouth." To enhance the dining experience, Fang offers chili oil for a mild spice and chili sauce for those who prefer a more significant kick. This attention to detail and the availability of condiments to customize the flavor profile demonstrate a commitment to satisfying diverse palates.
While Fang is acknowledged as not being inexpensive, with one reviewer noting a cost of approximately $60 for an appetizer and entrée for one person, the consensus is that the quality and quantity of food justify the price. The portions are described as "plenty," with one diner unable to finish their meal, suggesting generous servings that offer good value despite the higher price point. This indicates that Fang provides a premium dining experience where the quality of ingredients, the creativity of the dishes, and the overall ambiance contribute to the cost.
In terms of promotional information, the positive reviews themselves act as a strong endorsement for Fang. The consistent praise for specific dishes like the Pork Buns, Crispy Honey Short Rib, and the vegetarian options serves as a recommendation to try these signature items. The mention of the unique presentation of the Vegetarian Chow Mein in a tealight-heated bowl also adds to the allure and novelty of dining at Fang. While there may not be explicit discounts or special offers mentioned, the emphasis on the exceptional quality and generous portions suggests that the value lies in the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, Fang offers a modern and refined Chinese dining experience in San Francisco's SoMa district, seamlessly blending culinary innovation with a respect for Chinese heritage. The classy yet unpretentious environment, coupled with efficient service and truly amazing food, makes it a standout in the local culinary scene. Whether you're a vegetarian seeking flavorful and unique dishes or a meat lover eager to try signature items like the Pork Buns and Crispy Honey Short Rib, Fang promises a memorable meal. While it may be on the pricier side, the quality, creativity, and generous portions justify the cost, making it a worthwhile destination for those looking to explore a contemporary take on Chinese cuisine in a sophisticated setting.

Customer Reviews
After a long creatively fulfilling day at the MoMa, I found myself in Fang. The proximity was perfect, I found it through a food blog. Fang had a no pretentious, classy Chinese heritage vibe. Folks with large teams were enjoying themselves at the family share tables. I had the vegetarian fried dumplings and the vegetarian chow mein. The dumplings were crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Whereas the chowmein came in a double-decker tealight heated bowl to retain the ambient temperature. The noodles were uniquely coated with a delicious spice accompanied with lettuce, asparagus, and broccoli. The comforting, tasty noodles hit the spot with subtle flavors!
Fast service and quick food, like many Chinese restaurants. But the food is downright amazing. Pork Buns and Crispy Honey Short Rib with Bok Choy are both top notch choices. Both crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Buns especial are soft and melt in your mouth. Ask for chili oil for a mild spice or chili sauce for a much spicier addition. Not cheap at about $60 for an app and entré for 1 person, but I could not finish it - plenty of food.
Fang was definitely worth the hype. The food felt authentic and the drinks were some of the best I have had ever. It is a popular stop with the charm of an amazing hole in the wall place. Generous portions full of flavor.
the food was outstanding. we stumbled upon fang after walking around all day and we didnt even know it was one of keanu reaves's favorite resturants. we had the famous sizzling rice, rice soup, beef ribs, and lo mein. 10/10 but then after the meal we noticed an insane amount of dust covered the walls. like was it not cleaned since the filming of matrix 4? usually not something i notice but it was ALOT, not dust bunnies but full grown dust rabbits.
What a delightful dining experience! Upon sitting and ordering our drinks, the owner, Peter, came up and asked our party if we’d been in before. We said we hadn’t. He asked if we had any food we didn’t eat and if we trusted him. We answered that we would try anything, and he had free rein to bring us whatever he wanted. My only mistake was being so excited about the food that I did not get pictures of each course. We had beef pot stickers, pork steamed buns, a mushroom & spring pea dish, and this shrimp & apple dish. Everything came out perfectly paced, delightfully balanced, and delicious! The other owner, Kathy, checked on us to ensure everything was as we wanted. What we received was so good and well-priced. Always trust the owner to bring you the best the restaurant offers!
