About Famous Wok

Famous Wok is a Chinese Restaurant located at 10835 Kings Rd #282, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572, USA. They can be contacted at (843) 449-3888 or +1 843-449-3888. Based on recent customer reviews, Famous Wok operates within a mall food court setting and has received concerning feedback regarding its food preparation methods and food safety practices.

One reviewer, who found Famous Wok after searching online for Chinese food, noted that the restaurant is situated in a mall food court, which took some time to locate. This customer expressed disappointment with the food preparation, stating that "The food is pre cooked, and sits in steam trays." This is a significant observation for those who prefer freshly cooked Chinese cuisine where vegetables remain crisp and the food is served piping hot.

The reviewer suggested that Famous Wok might be better for an early lunch service but not for dinner, as the food at dinner felt like "left overs, and needs reheating." They observed a server portioning out food onto a Styrofoam container with a smile, which the reviewer interpreted as an attempt to "get rid of it." This raised concerns about the freshness of the food, particularly later in the day. The reviewer hoped that unsold portions are discarded rather than saved for the next day, implying a worry about food storage and potential reheating of old food.

While the reviewer found the "chicken teriyaki and fried rice was edible," they noted that "the veggies not so much," further indicating a potential issue with the quality or freshness of certain components of their meal.

Another customer provided an extremely negative review, stating, "If I could give zero stars I would !" This strong condemnation was based on multiple serious allegations. The reviewer claimed that the food was "old," and that a friend's order of "general saos (spelled wrong) chicken and lo mein" was also old and made him sick. This is a severe accusation pointing to potential food spoilage or inadequate holding times.

The situation escalated when the reviewer requested a refund. They alleged that a staff member took the uneaten chicken to the back, "dropped it in grease and threw more sauce on it from the plate we had and threw them back on the bar to serve again." This is an alarming claim indicating extremely unsanitary and unsafe food handling practices, including the potential for cross-contamination and serving food that had already been partially consumed.

The reviewer demanded and eventually received a refund but also discovered that they had been overcharged for the plate initially. They also described rude behavior from a staff member during the ordering and refund process, including attempts to dismiss them rudely and telling them to "shut up." This reflects poorly on the customer service at Famous Wok.

Adding to the severity of the allegations, the reviewer recounted a conversation with another worker from a different establishment in the food court, who allegedly stated that the practices described "happens all the time" at Famous Wok, with food never being changed and people frequently getting sick. This second-hand account further amplifies the food safety concerns.

The most disturbing claim was that "last week they removed maggots out the rice and needs to be shut down !" This is an extremely serious accusation indicating severe pest infestation and unsanitary conditions that pose a significant health risk to customers. The reviewer stated that they had called the "dhec" (likely referring to the Department of Health and Environmental Control) and made an official report, underscoring the gravity of their concerns and the potential for regulatory involvement.

Given these two customer reviews, there are significant and alarming concerns regarding the food quality, freshness, handling practices, and overall food safety at Famous Wok in Myrtle Beach. The first review suggests that the practice of serving pre-cooked food from steam trays might lead to a less than desirable dining experience, especially later in the day. The second review contains extremely serious allegations of serving old and potentially contaminated food, attempting to re-serve discarded food, rude customer service, and even the presence of maggots in the rice, leading to a report being filed with health authorities.

The environment of Famous Wok is that of a typical mall food court, characterized by a communal seating area and a focus on quick service. The ambiance is likely casual and functional rather than a traditional restaurant setting. However, the serious food safety concerns raised significantly overshadow any discussion of the physical environment.

The primary service offered is the serving of pre-cooked Chinese food in a fast-food style setting within the mall food court. The reviews mention counter service and the use of Styrofoam containers for takeout. Delivery services are not mentioned, and given the food court location, are unlikely to be a primary offering. The customer service experience appears to be negative in at least one instance, with allegations of rudeness and mishandling of complaints.

Features of Famous Wok, based on the negative reviews, include the practice of serving pre-cooked food from steam trays, which may impact freshness and quality, especially during dinner hours. The alleged unsanitary food handling practices and the serious claims of serving old food and the presence of pests are significant negative features. The rudeness reported by one customer is also a concerning aspect of their service.

Promotional information is not mentioned in the provided reviews. Given the serious nature of the feedback, any potential promotions would likely be secondary to the critical concerns raised about food safety and quality.

In conclusion, the limited online feedback for Famous Wok in Myrtle Beach, SC, paints a highly concerning picture. The allegations of serving old and mishandled food, the reported presence of maggots in the rice, and the negative customer service experiences are extremely serious and should be a significant consideration for any potential customers. The practice of serving pre-cooked food from steam trays may also result in a less than optimal dining experience, particularly for those seeking freshly prepared Chinese cuisine. Local users are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider the severe food safety allegations before choosing to dine at or order from Famous Wok. The reported contact with health authorities suggests that these issues are being taken seriously. It would be prudent to seek further information or updates from relevant health and safety organizations before considering this establishment.

I googled Chinese food!, this place was close, so I rolled the dice. I didn't know it was in a mall food court, took a while to find it, and wished I hadn't. The food is pre cooked, and sits in steam trays. I like fresh cooked Chinese, so the food is piping hot with crispy veggies. This place nay be better for early lunch but not dinner, its like having left overs, and needs reheating. The server was slopping a good portion onto the Styrofoam container with a smile on her face, just trying to get rid of it. I hope they throw out unsold portions and not save them for the next day. The chicken teriyaki and fried rice was edible but tthe veggies not so much.

If I could give zero stars I would ! Food was old my sons friend got a general saos (spelled wrong) chicken and lo mein all the food was old which made him sick we asked for a refund she took the chicken to the back dropped it in grease and threw more sauce on it from the plate we had and threw them back on the bar to serve again I demanded a refund and finally got one to only find out he over charged me for the plate to begin with when ordering he tried to dismiss me very rudely and then more attitude again at refund telling me to shut up and I explained very professionally that he was rude and unprofessional and he needed to allow me and the young lady to figure it out upon coming back to my table another lady whom works at a different place said that happens all the time they never change the food and people are always sick last week they removed maggots out the rice and needs to be shut down ! I called dhec and made an official report ! This is just not ok!

I didn’t look at the reviews before hand and should have. I walked by the counter and the food did look really good. I decided to do teriyaki chicken, chicken and broccoli, and Lo mein. When I say I was in for a treat. I was in for a treat😂 the lo mein tasted like cardboard and had no flavor and the texture was very rough. The chicken and broccoli didn’t taste fresh or like chicken or broccoli. It was very “chunky” and questionable. The teriyaki chicken was the only good thing. And even so it was mediocre. I ended up eating the chicken teriyaki but tossing the rest out. Would not recommend.

I do not recommend this place at all. My husband and I went here on our honey moon and I sampled the teriyaki chicken and it took everything I had to swallow it. Decided to just get spring rolls and egg rolls to play it safe when I tell you I spit both of them out. Worst I’ve ever tried!!

Everytime I come to this place they try to upcharge and sell you things you don't want and will flat out argue with you! I wanted veggies and meat one time and the lady refused to serve it to me, even though it was on menu. (I walked away empty handed and frustrated)Today, figuring I would try again, I went in wanting a small 6.99 meat cup. The guy pulls out the 7.99 and I had to repeat 3 time, "no I want the small one please". Finally, he put it away and pulled out the smaller cup! Needless to say, I won't be returning! They won't listen to their customers!
