About Famous Sichuan
Welcome to Famous Sichuan, your gateway to the intense and exhilarating flavors of Sichuan cuisine, right in the heart of New York City. Situated at 10 Pell St, New York, NY 10013, Famous Sichuan operates as a Chinese restaurant specializing in the distinctive culinary traditions of the Sichuan province in China. Renowned for its liberal use of chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and garlic, the cuisine offers a complex interplay of spicy, savory, and numbing sensations that are both bold and deeply satisfying. While the platform category is generally "Chinese Restaurant," Famous Sichuan carves a niche by focusing specifically on the unique and often fiery dishes of the Sichuan region.
Based on customer feedback, Famous Sichuan has garnered a reputation for delivering authentic and flavorful Sichuan dishes, particularly for those who appreciate a significant level of spiciness. The Ma Po Tofu and the Crispy Chicken with Garlic are two dishes that have been specifically highlighted as both spicy and delicious. The Ma Po Tofu, a classic Sichuan dish, typically features soft tofu in a savory and spicy fermented black bean sauce, often with ground meat and Sichuan peppercorns. The Crispy Chicken with Garlic, another popular choice, likely involves tender pieces of chicken that are deep-fried to a crispy perfection and then tossed with a generous amount of pungent garlic and chili peppers.
For those seeking other options, the Beef Chow Fun and Steamed Dumplings have also received positive mentions, indicating a broader range of well-prepared dishes beyond just the intensely spicy offerings. Beef Chow Fun is a Cantonese-style stir-fried noodle dish with tender slices of beef, wide rice noodles, scallions, and bean sprouts, typically seasoned with soy sauce. The positive feedback suggests that Famous Sichuan executes this classic dish well. Similarly, the Steamed Dumplings appear to be a satisfying and flavorful appetizer or side dish.
However, not all dishes have received universal acclaim. One customer expressed significant disappointment with the Shredded Seaweed with Sesame Sauce, describing it as having an unexpected thick, linguine-like texture and lacking good flavor. This highlights the importance of individual preferences and the potential for variations in how certain dishes are interpreted or prepared. It's always advisable to consider that individual experiences can differ, and one dish might not appeal to everyone.
In terms of service, one reviewer who dined in noted that they were "gathered, severed and all by a single person." While the reviewer's overall experience with the spicy dishes was positive, this observation suggests that staffing might be limited at times, potentially impacting the speed or attentiveness of service for dine-in customers. The reviewer's comment that the "atmosphere is ok on par with the place" provides a general sense that the ambiance is functional and perhaps not the primary focus, with the emphasis being more on the quality and authenticity of the food.
For those who prefer the convenience of having their meal delivered, Famous Sichuan offers this service through third-party platforms like Uber Eats. One customer specifically mentioned ordering delivery via Uber Eats and reported that the food arrived on time and was still warm, indicating a reliable and efficient delivery process. This option allows local users to enjoy the bold flavors of Famous Sichuan from the comfort of their own homes.
Currently, specific promotional information for Famous Sichuan is not included in the provided reviews. In summary, Famous Sichuan at 10 Pell St in New York City is a Chinese restaurant that specializes in the fiery and flavorful cuisine of the Sichuan province. While some non-spicy options like Beef Chow Fun and Steamed Dumplings are also available and well-received, individual dishes like the Shredded Seaweed with Sesame Sauce may not meet everyone's expectations. The dine-in atmosphere is described as "ok," and service might be handled by a limited staff at times. We tried Ma Po tofu and Crispy Chicken with Garlic both were spicy and delicious. I would suggest this place if you are a spicy lover #beeyem atmosphere is ok on par with the place. When we arrive we are gathered, severed and all by a single person.
Beef Chow Fun and Steamed Dumplings were great. Shredded Seaweed w Sesame Sauce was awful and not at all what I was expecting… they were like a thick linguine texture and didn’t have good flavor. I ordered delivery via Uber Eats. It arrived on time and was still warm.
Dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, wonton soup. I felt the dumplings needed more salt but was very flavorful. The prices were heavy but good portions. Open late so that was a plus
Late night eats in the heart of NYC’s Chinatown. No frills, straight to the 🌶️ spicy options and some of the best noodles in town. Dan Dan, roast duck, garlics bean, and the sichuan hot pot! Open till 2am.
Well the food is alright; tried their orange chicken which has a pretty good flavor. What I’m worried about is how fresh the chicken is. Has a weird texture to it, and the meat also looked different. So I’m not entirely confident how fresh their food is. Soup came free, but I did not try it as it came with mushrooms which I hate. Surprisingly, I was the only one in the restaurant, and still took them about 20 mins just to take the order. The place being completely empty is a red flag. The lady was casually talking to some people while I sat at the next table for 20 mins for her to take the order. Extremely poor service.
