For local users in the Hayward and Newark areas, Fairwood Cafe has established itself as a reliable destination for delicious food, friendly service, and unexpected complimentary treats.
Fairwood Cafe has earned a reputation as a "go to late night place for Cantonese food" in the Hayward-Newark vicinity. This highlights its extended operating hours, catering to those seeking a delicious meal outside of typical dining times. The fact that it gets "pretty busy after 10 some nights" attests to its popularity among night owls and those working late. This late-night service is a significant feature, providing a valuable option for the local community.
The food at Fairwood Cafe consistently receives positive feedback. One of the frequently mentioned dishes is the beef chow fun. Customers rave about the "wonderfully tender" beef, a crucial element in a well-prepared chow fun. The gravy served with it is also praised as "very good," even by a self-proclaimed "dry chow fun guy," indicating its quality and appeal to a variety of preferences. This suggests that Fairwood Cafe excels in this classic Cantonese noodle dish, offering both traditional and gravy-enhanced versions.
The menu at Fairwood Cafe extends beyond standard Cantonese fare to include "a lot of interesting choices influenced by the colonialism of the UK and Portugal," which is characteristic of classic Hong Kong cafes. This fusion of culinary traditions results in unique and intriguing dishes that set it apart from typical Chinese restaurants. One example highlighted is a "seafood omelette and French fries," a combination that perfectly illustrates this East-meets-West culinary style. This variety and willingness to offer diverse options make Fairwood Cafe an exciting place to explore different tastes.
Another dish that received high praise in a recent update is P25, featuring bok choy and rock cod. A reviewer described it as "delicious" and substantial enough to provide leftovers for another meal, indicating generous portion sizes for some dishes. Hong Kong cafes typically offer a casual and bustling atmosphere, often with an extensive menu covering a wide range of dishes, from noodles and rice to baked goods and Western-influenced plates. Customers might expect a lively and unpretentious setting focused on delivering a diverse and satisfying culinary experience.

This encourages exploration beyond the more commonly known Cantonese dishes, promising new and exciting culinary discoveries.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Update, 1/17/25 Happy New Year! Back at Fairwood for our comfort food fix Mine is P25, bok choy and rock cod, partner got vegetable beef chow fun with gravy. Both delicious. The beef is perfectly tender, not overdone. Fish and bok choy is enough for two so I will have leftovers for tomorrow We also got the complimentary vegetable soup and bread, and at the end, small dishes of ice cream. Vanilla and mango tonight. Love this place. The go to late night place for Cantonese food in the Hayward Newark area. Very yummy food - this was the beef chow fun and a pineapple smoothie(?). Beef is wonderfully tender, the gravy was very good (I am a dry chow fun guy myself but partner likes the gravy). we've been here multiple times. It gets pretty busy after 10 some nights. Parking is easy, in the shopping center lot. Easy access to HWY84 and the Nimitz. This is CLASSIC Hong Kong fare because on they have a lot of interesting choices influenced by the colonialism of the UK and Portugal. If you try the other side of the menu there's all sorts of interesting dishes. Tonight a seafood omelette and French fries, and partner got dry beef chow fun. They have other fun stuff to try.
Friendly, efficient staff. Food was delicious and as a bonus we were given a free cup of vegetable soup as an appetizer then after our meal we were offered free ice cream! How nice. And the ice cream was very creamy and delicious above average in quality. Great meal.
Authentic Cantonese diner food with friendly service and reasonable prices. My go to order is always the baked pork chop rice, and it did not disappoint. The chow fun was also some of the best we've ever had. Bonus points for being open until midnight!
Food and service was great! Each entree is roughly $11-17, with large portions. The curry comes with garlic bread and soup. We also got a free scoop of ice cream at the end!
Okay, we were lowkey sussed out by seeing an Asian restaurant serving so late at night but decided to try it since it couldn’t be worse than our other options of In N Out or McD’s at 11PM. But to our pleasant surprise, this place was pretty great! I was impressed with how extensive their menu is. Not only do they serve a multitude of Asian/Chinese dishes, but they also offer breakfast dishes like crepes, eggs, as well as fries and nuggets! We visited on a late Tuesday night and the restaurant was pretty busy so we took that as a good sign. The portions were huge for such decent pricing. We got the beef chow fun (amazing!), veggie crunchy stir fried noodles, and black pepper steak dishes. We also got the mango milkshake which was good but extremely sweet. We didn’t have to wait very long for our food to come out at all. HOWEVER : I will note that one of us ordered the beef ramen and got very very ill shortly after (intense sweating and nausea)… definitely steer clear of this dish 🚫😷 Otherwise, the rest of us had a great experience and were pleasantly surprised. Hopefully this business continues to make great food available late night all while keeping decent prices!
