About Elaine's Kitchen

Welcome to Elaine's Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant located at 434 Broadway in San Francisco, California. As a family-owned establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Elaine's Kitchen has garnered both positive feedback for its hospitality and some recent concerns regarding the consistency of its food quality. Situated on the bustling Broadway, it aims to offer a welcoming dining experience with a range of Chinese dishes.

One positive review highlights the core values of Elaine's Kitchen, praising its "great hospitality, delicious food and speed of service." This customer awarded the restaurant a 5-star rating, emphasizing the positive aspects of their dining experience. The mention of being family-owned suggests a personal touch in the service and potentially a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Specific dishes that received positive mentions include the spring rolls, which were described as "very fresh, crispy and done on fresh oil," despite being deep-fried. This attention to the freshness of ingredients and the quality of preparation is a notable positive aspect. Another highly recommended dish is the spicy basil chicken, surprisingly described as "mouth drooling," indicating a flavorful and satisfying option for those who enjoy a bit of spice.

Adding to the positive experience, the reviewer mentioned receiving a complimentary dessert at the end of their meal. Furthermore, the owner, Elaine herself, took the time to step out and introduce herself, creating a personal connection with the diners. This interaction left a lasting positive impression, with the reviewer expressing pleasure in meeting Elaine and looking forward to returning.

However, a contrasting review presents a significant concern regarding the recent food quality at Elaine's Kitchen. This customer expressed disappointment, stating they had enjoyed Elaine's Kitchen in the past but had a negative experience on their recent visit. The primary issue was the quality of the chicken in both the General TSO's chicken and the orange chicken dishes. The chicken was described as "super dry and hard," almost as if it had been precooked and then reheated. Consequently, both dishes were deemed inedible and had to be thrown out.

This negative experience was not an isolated incident for this reviewer, as they mentioned it was the second time in a row they had encountered such issues. They had hoped the previous time was just an off night but concluded that this was not the case. This repeated issue with the quality of popular dishes like General TSO's and orange chicken is a serious concern for potential customers.

The contrasting nature of these reviews suggests a potential inconsistency in the kitchen's food preparation or quality control. While some customers experience fresh and delicious dishes with excellent hospitality, others have encountered significantly subpar food. This inconsistency makes it challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the overall dining experience at Elaine's Kitchen.

Based on the available information, it is difficult to ascertain specific details about the restaurant's environment beyond it being a family-owned establishment on Broadway. The reviews do not extensively describe the ambiance or decor. Similarly, there is no promotional information provided, such as discounts, special offers, or signature menu items beyond the individual dishes mentioned by the reviewers.

In conclusion, Elaine's Kitchen is a family-owned Chinese restaurant in San Francisco that has received positive feedback for its hospitality, speed of service, and certain dishes like the spring rolls and spicy basil chicken. The personal touch of the owner, Elaine, meeting customers also contributes to a positive impression for some. However, recent reviews raise concerns about the consistency of food quality, specifically regarding the dryness and texture of the chicken in popular dishes like General TSO's and orange chicken. Potential customers should be aware of these contrasting experiences when considering dining at Elaine's Kitchen. While the hospitality and some dishes may be commendable, the reported issues with food quality are a significant factor to consider.

Super bummed. Have enjoyed Elaine’s kitchen in the past. Tonight they sent the worst chicken. Super dry and hard. Almost as if it had already been cooked but then cooked again to heat it up. Both general TSO’s and orange chicken had to be thrown out. This is the second time in a row. Thought last time was just a bad night. Apparently not.

As a family owned restaurant giving this place a 5 star for the great hospitality, delicious food and speed of service. Spring rolls, even though deep fried, however very fresh, crispy and done on fresh oil. Would highly recommend spicy basil chicken, which was surprisingly mouth drooling. At the end we’ve got complimentary desert. The owner was nice to step out and introduce herself. Thank you, Elaine, it’s pleasure to meet you and know you. Will see you next time.

Ordered the sesame chicken with rice. Chicken was very tough and sesame sauce was more like bbq sauce. Rice is good and so was the customer service. Not happy with chicken. It tastes like its old and then when reheated it was overcooked. Disappointed I just wasted money on this and I dont even want to eat it

Very good food. Nice environment and workers. I've had 1 experience where there was too much oil left at the bottom of my chow mein box outside of that everything and time I went it was great.
