About Eight Jane
Eight Jane is a Chinese restaurant located at 37-12 Main St in the bustling neighborhood of Flushing, New York. Categorized as a Chinese Restaurant, Eight Jane appears to specialize in providing traditional Chinese breakfast options, with a particular emphasis on affordability and authenticity. Based on the available customer reviews, Eight Jane is characterized as a small, unassuming establishment—a "hole in the wall"—that has garnered attention for its jianbing and other breakfast items.
The environment of Eight Jane is described as a "small hole in the wall," suggesting a compact and perhaps less elaborate setting. This type of establishment often prioritizes the quality and affordability of its food over extensive decor or spacious seating. One reviewer mentioned that the place was "pure amazing!" for a Chinese breakfast, indicating that the focus is likely on the food itself rather than the ambiance. The high volume of positive feedback regarding the breakfast suggests that despite its size, Eight Jane has cultivated a loyal following among those seeking authentic Chinese breakfast in Flushing.
In terms of services, Eight Jane primarily functions as a breakfast spot, as indicated by one reviewer's intention to return "for breakfast all the time." The staff is noted to be "really friend," which contributes positively to the overall customer experience. A crucial piece of information regarding payment is that Eight Jane operates on a "cash only" basis. This is an important detail for potential customers to be aware of before visiting. While the reviews focus on the breakfast items, it is not explicitly stated whether Eight Jane offers takeout options, although it is common for such establishments to do so, especially given its "hole in the wall" description which often implies quick service and takeaway.
The standout feature of Eight Jane is its offering of authentic Chinese breakfast items, particularly the jianbing (煎饼). Jianbing is a popular Chinese street food, a savory crepe made with a batter of wheat and grain flours, eggs, and often includes fillings such as scallions, cilantro, crispy wonton crackers (baocui), and a savory sauce. One reviewer found the jianbing to be "very good and authentic enough and fulfilling," especially considering its price. Another reviewer agreed that the "Jing bang (likely a phonetic spelling of jianbing)" was good, noting that the base was well-made and the crispy element added great texture. However, this reviewer also pointed out an inconsistency in the distribution of sauce and toppings, leading to some bland bites. Despite this minor critique, they still acknowledged it as an affordable and filling meal.
Another breakfast item mentioned in a positive light is the 肉燕 (rouyan) soup. One reviewer found it to be "also pretty good," suggesting that Eight Jane offers more than just jianbing for breakfast. Rouyan, also known as meat swallow, is a type of dumpling made with a unique wrapper pounded from pork tenderloin, giving it a distinctive texture. Its presence on the menu indicates a commitment to offering traditional and perhaps regional Chinese breakfast specialties.
A significant feature that attracts customers to Eight Jane is its affordability. The jianbing is mentioned to cost only $5 in one review and $6 in another (potentially indicating a slight price change or different variations). Both reviewers emphasize the value for money, with one stating, "For only 5 bucks what can go wrong?" and the other noting, "At $6 it’s a very affordable and filling meal." This combination of authentic taste and low price point is a major draw for budget-conscious customers and those seeking a genuine Chinese breakfast experience without breaking the bank.
Currently, there is no information available regarding any specific promotional offers or discounts at Eight Jane. The reviews focus on the regular prices of the menu items. Local users interested in any potential promotions would need to visit the restaurant or inquire directly if a more comprehensive menu or social media presence is found through other means.
The location at 37-12 Main St in Flushing places Eight Jane in the heart of a vibrant Chinese community, known for its diverse array of Chinese restaurants and food vendors. This central location makes it easily accessible to those in the area seeking authentic Chinese cuisine, particularly breakfast.
In conclusion, Eight Jane is a "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant in Flushing, NY, that has garnered positive attention for its affordable and authentic Chinese breakfast offerings, primarily the jianbing and rouyan soup. Customers praise the taste and value, with the jianbing being a particularly popular and filling option for its low price. While the environment is basic and payment is cash only, the friendly service and the quality of the breakfast items make Eight Jane a recommended spot for those looking for a genuine taste of Chinese morning fare in Flushing. Despite a minor critique about the consistency of sauce distribution in the jianbing, the overall sentiment suggests that Eight Jane provides a worthwhile and budget-friendly breakfast experience.

This whole in a wall Chinese breakfast place is pure amazing! The jianbing is very good and authentic enough and fulfilling. And it only costs 5 bucks!! For only 5 bucks what can go wrong? Also ordered the 肉燕 soup which is also pretty good. Will definitely come back here for breakfast all the time if I’m in the flushing area!
I think this place is a little over hyped. It’s a small hole in the wall and the Jing bang is good but not the best like everyone is boasting. The base is made well and the crispy adds great texture but the sauce / toppings are not evenly distributed leaving some bites very bland. The staff is really friend and it’s cash only. At $6 it’s a very affordable and filling meal.
It’s a must try for something different. No frills place. I ordered the savory crepe (jianbing) and it was delightful and budget friendly. Their staff was nice. It may look intimidating with their menu only printed in Chinese but definitely worth going out of your comfort zone to try. Will be a return customer
Highly recommend the jianbing! It’s fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. Just a heads up — make sure to bring cash, but they also accept Zelle if you forget.
I used to grab jianbing here every morning during HS & college; affordable light breakfast but still filling. Currently visiting from out of state and the auntie is just as wonderful as ever. $6 during this egg shortage is really nice. Only thing is the flavor is now very lacking... not sure where the seasoning went.
