About Egg Roll King on Madison Ave.
Egg Roll King on Madison Ave., located at 8021 Madison Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227, USA, operates within the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a variety of Chinese cuisine options to the local community. Despite its name suggesting a specialty in egg rolls, recent customer feedback indicates significant issues with the quality and preparation of multiple dishes, including the egg rolls themselves. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the restaurant based solely on the provided customer reviews, highlighting both the positive and overwhelmingly negative aspects of the dining experience as reported by patrons.
Information regarding the environment of Egg Roll King on Madison Ave. is extremely limited within the provided reviews. One reviewer briefly mentioned that the "folks were very nice," which could imply a welcoming or friendly atmosphere among the staff. However, there are no descriptions of the restaurant's décor, cleanliness, seating arrangements, or overall ambiance. Therefore, local users seeking details about the physical environment of this establishment will need to rely on other sources or personal visits, as the available reviews do not offer any substantial insights in this area.
In terms of service, one positive aspect mentioned by a customer was that the "folks were very nice" and that the "good came out fast." This suggests that the staff may be friendly and that the restaurant prioritizes quick service, which could be appealing to customers looking for a fast meal. However, this positive note is overshadowed by significant concerns regarding the quality of the food itself, which ultimately impacts the overall service experience and customer satisfaction.
The namesake item, the egg rolls, which one might expect to be a highlight, were explicitly mentioned as "not good either" by one highly dissatisfied customer. This directly contradicts any potential expectation of quality based on the restaurant's name. Another reviewer who found the "egg rolls looked amazing" reported that their "flavor was pretty bland," indicating a significant disconnect between visual appeal and actual taste. This suggests a potential issue with the recipe or the ingredients used in their preparation.
Other dishes reviewed also received overwhelmingly negative feedback. One customer who ordered shrimp fried rice and wings described the entire meal as something they "wouldn’t have gave my dog." The shrimp in the fried rice was criticized for being breaded (an unconventional preparation for this dish), overcooked, and rubbery. The rice itself was described as "mush." The fried wings were reported to be dry and neither breaded nor crispy, failing to meet basic expectations for this type of dish. This reviewer concluded that it was "by far the worst Chinese food" they had ever had and strongly advised against visiting the restaurant.
Another customer shared similarly negative experiences with other menu items. The Crab Rangoon were described as being excessively "cream cheesey without much other flavor," indicating a lack of balance in the filling. The Pot Stickers were reported to be "a bit bland" and appeared to have been "sitting around for quite a while" due to their "shriveled up" appearance. This suggests potential issues with food freshness and holding practices.
Perhaps the most concerning feedback was regarding the General's Chicken, which one reviewer described as "probably the worst part" of their meal. They noted that it was "very different than any generals chicken I’ve ever had," with a sauce that was so unusual that they initially suspected they had received the wrong order. Despite confirming it was indeed General's Chicken, the reviewer's extreme dissatisfaction highlights a significant deviation from the expected flavor profile of this popular dish. The overall impression from this review was that the food was "just overall fine. Nothing special," which, in the context of the other highly negative review, suggests a significant lack of quality and flavor in the majority of the dishes sampled.
Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback concerning the food quality across multiple dishes, including the restaurant's supposed specialty, Egg Roll King on Madison Ave. appears to be facing significant challenges in meeting customer expectations. The issues range from unconventional preparation methods (breaded shrimp fried rice), poor execution (overcooked shrimp, mushy rice, dry wings), bland flavors (egg rolls, pot stickers, crab rangoon), and significant deviations from expected taste and preparation (General's Chicken). The singular positive comment about friendly staff and fast service is insufficient to outweigh the substantial concerns raised about the food itself.
For local users in Indianapolis considering Egg Roll King on Madison Ave. for a Chinese meal, the available recent reviews paint a very negative picture. The strong and consistent criticisms regarding the quality and taste of various dishes should be taken seriously. While the staff may be friendly and the service quick, the fundamental aspect of a restaurant – the food – has been reported to be severely lacking by multiple customers. The restaurant's name, Egg Roll King, does not appear to be indicative of the quality of their egg rolls, according to the feedback.
There is no information provided in the available reviews regarding any promotional offers, discounts, or special deals at Egg Roll King on Madison Ave. Given the strong negative feedback on the food quality, it would be advisable for potential customers to exercise extreme caution. If you are considering visiting this establishment, it might be prudent to look for more recent and potentially contrasting reviews from other sources to get a more balanced perspective. However, based solely on the provided information, it would be difficult to recommend this restaurant to local users expecting good quality Chinese food.

Ordered shrimp fried rice and wings. And what i paid for i wouldn’t have gave my dog. The shrimp was breaded who breads shrimp fried rice and they was over cooked and rubbery, the rice was mush and the fried wings was dry and wasn’t breaded or crispy. This was by far the worst Chinese food i ever had and would not recommend. The egg rolls they are known for aren’t good either. DONT GO HERE EXPECTING GOOD FOOD!!!!’
Folks were very nice and good came out fast. Good was pretty blah overall unfortunately. Crab Rangoon were very cream cheesey without much other flavor. Egg rolls looked amazing but flavor was pretty bland. Pot stickers were also a bit bland and looked like they’d been sitting around for quite a while (shriveled up). The generals chicken was probably the worst part. It was very different than any generals chicken I’ve ever had. The sauce was very different and I almost thought I got the wrong order but it was correct. Just overall fine. Nothing special.
I love this place! I love that it has a drive thru and they are quick and super sweet people. I usually order the orange chicken combo with extra rice instead of soup and it’s soooo yummy! Also the lo mein is great and the teriyaki is amazing! Recommend this place and again super yummy and affordable. They have lunch specials to if you go earlier in the afternoon!
Usually enjoy , lately egg rolls not cooked throughly and SO much grease in them it dripped out of wax sack into paper bag and onto my seat cover in my vehicle. Veg fried rice not done either. Won't be going back
Everything we ate was absolutely amazing and I learned I like egg rolls. Food was fresh. If you love Chinese food then this is the place to go
