About Edna Ray Chinese Restaurant
Edna Ray Chinese Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 1890 W San Carlos St in San Jose, California. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, it aims to serve the community with a variety of Chinese dishes. While the provided information does not offer details about the restaurant's environment, services, features, or any promotional activities directly from the establishment, we can glean insights from recent customer reviews available online to provide a more detailed introduction for local users.
Based on the recent feedback from customers, it appears that experiences at Edna Ray Chinese Restaurant have been varied, with some significant concerns raised regarding the quality of the food and the service provided. One recurring theme in the negative reviews is the perceived inconsistency in food preparation. One customer, who stated they had been a patron for a "decent amount of time," detailed multiple instances of subpar food quality. These included chicken described as "too hard" and "hard as a rock" in the salt and pepper chicken dish, with a notable lack of meat. The reviewer also mentioned other issues such as "watered down food, noodles, wonton, pot stickers and such," expressing frustration with paying for what they deemed "sub-par quality food." This customer explicitly stated their intention not to return due to concerns about the restaurant's quality control and perceived rushed service, even when the restaurant was not particularly busy.
Another recent review echoed these sentiments, describing a "total disaster" despite the reviewer having loved the place previously. This customer reported receiving food that was not freshly cooked but rather "definitely reheated." Specific dishes mentioned were honey walnut shrimp, which surprisingly contained no walnuts and was described as "soggy," suggesting it might have been reheated from the previous day. The pork fried rice was also criticized for being "really dry" with dried-out pork and hard rice. Furthermore, the egg roll was described as "soft and mushy," indicating it might not have been freshly prepared. While the reviewer's husband found his beef dish to taste "ok," he noted it was not very warm. This customer expressed significant disappointment, especially considering the $74 cost of their meal, stating that they had never had a bad experience before this instance, leading to sadness and concern.
Considering these recent customer experiences, local users who are contemplating dining at or ordering from Edna Ray Chinese Restaurant should be aware of these reported issues. The reviews highlight potential inconsistencies in food quality, with concerns raised about freshness, proper cooking, and the quality of ingredients in certain dishes. The absence of walnuts in a honey walnut shrimp dish is a notable oversight, and the descriptions of reheated and poorly textured food are significant red flags for potential customers.

I've been going here for a decent amount of time, i have had mishaps from the restraunt here and there, having chicken that was too hard and have to realize their is barley any meat in the salt and pepper chicken. They were hard as a rock in the order and the whole plate was inedible. I've had other problems such as watered down food, noodles, wonton, pot stickers and such. I'm tired of being nice and paying good money for sub-par quality food. I will be not coming back anymore, they are too lazy in quality and cannot be dining 2 tables without them rushing your order and making your food into rocks. It took me a whole plate to find 1 piece if chicken that actually had chicken in it, but it was hard as rubber. Save yourself the time and money, these people are scamming others in hopes they don't notice the poor quality of the food that is being served.
We love this place but tonight it was a total disaster. Ordered at 5:41 and it was here at 6pm. It was NOT cooked fresh. It was definitely reheated and not that much either. I had my usual honey WALNUT shrimp and not a single walnut! and it was soggy like it was reheated from yesterday! And the pork fried rice was really dry. The pork was dried out and the rice was hard. The egg roll was soft and mushy like it had been sitting around since their lunchtime. My husband’s beef wasn’t very warm but tasted ok. For $74 I expected better. I’ve never had a bad meal until now. Sad.
Came to this restaurant and ordered $100 worth of food for my whole family's take out. Came home to discover the most disgusting and spoiled food for everything I ordered which was fried wontons, shrimp fried rice, combo chow mein, sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli, Mongolian beef and honey walnut shrimp. The beef from those two items was spoiled as if the meat had turned, the sweet and sour pork was a washed out red color and looked and tasted like it had been rinsed, the pineapple in the entree was also spoiled, honey walnut shrimp was like biting into a pancake that was still doughy inside. The only edible items were fried rice and chow mein. I returned the food the following day to have the lady screaming at me and telling me I was lying when clearly the food was still in the containers . My kids were at risk for all sorts of unhealthy and unsanitary risks. Clearly I paid good money for what could have given my kids food poisoning and received no concern. I was disrespected and yelled at while having to remind this owner not to put her hands on me while I exited the restaurant. NOTICE ALL THE RETURNED CONTAINERS ON TABLE THAT'S MY RETURN!!!!!! SHE ALSO SCREAMED AT ME TO GO SMOKE POT AND THE FOOD WOULD TASTE BETTER🤔 NO AMOUNT OF POT COULD HAVE TURNED DISGUSTING AND ROTTEN INTO DELICIOUS. OMG
Definitely not worth the $80 dollars for the quality and gross taste! The tiny egg rolls had a weird taste and the rice was dry! I’ll never eat here again! It’s not anything like the one in Los Gatos or the way they were in the late 90’s! I think a Food Inspector should check out this establishment for cleanliness and proper refrigeration because I feel sick!!! Panda Express is way better and it’s a chain of restaurants! Pearl River used to be the best! I’m learning to cook my own Chinese food which is top notch food!
Service was horrible. It took forever to bring the meal , Kung Pao Chicken, for a late lunch around 1:30. I could have used a tea refill, but she never came back. Lots of delivery business, but the diner was mostly empty. People should visit this place before they order. Sticky tables, and I found a small random shell in my fried rice. I stopped eating. I'm not coming back.
