About East Wind Buffet

East Wind Buffet, located at 1015 Frontage Rd W #103 in Owatonna, Minnesota, operates within the Chinese Restaurant category, offering a buffet-style dining experience. As a buffet, it aims to provide a wide variety of dishes, including Chinese cuisine and, notably, sushi. Based on the limited customer reviews available online, experiences at East Wind Buffet appear to be somewhat mixed, with positive feedback regarding the variety of options and the inclusion of sushi and desserts, contrasted by concerns about food quality and the absence of certain standard Chinese dishes. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of East Wind Buffet based on these reviews, highlighting the mentioned aspects of environment, services, and food features.

One reviewer noted that the parking lot was "slightly full" but that there was "no line at the door," suggesting that while the restaurant might be popular, seating was available without a significant wait at the time of their visit. They also mentioned that it took a "short bit to find a seat," indicating that the restaurant can get busy enough to require a brief search for an available table. This suggests a moderately popular establishment with a decent seating capacity. The same reviewer described the restaurant as having "plenty of different things to choose from to eat and enjoy," implying a diverse buffet layout with various stations. However, the second reviewer did not comment on the environment, focusing instead on the food quality.

The primary service offered at East Wind Buffet is a self-serve buffet. Customers pay a fixed price and can then choose from a wide array of dishes laid out at different stations. Staff are likely present to manage seating, clear tables, and provide beverage service. One reviewer mentioned doing the "buffet for lunch," confirming this service model. The presence of a phone number, (507) 451-9666 or +1 507-451-9666, suggests that customers can call for information or potentially make reservations for larger groups, although this is not explicitly stated in the reviews. The inclusion of sushi in the buffet is a notable service feature that appealed to one customer's daughter.

A key feature of East Wind Buffet is the variety of food options available. One positive review specifically mentioned a "nice variety of different things to choose from to eat and enjoy," indicating a broad selection beyond just standard Chinese dishes. The availability of a "dessert table" was also noted as a positive aspect. Furthermore, the presence of sushi in the buffet is a significant feature that differentiates East Wind Buffet from some other Chinese buffets and was a primary reason for one customer's daughter's excitement. This suggests that East Wind Buffet aims to cater to a wider range of tastes by including Japanese cuisine elements.

However, one reviewer expressed disappointment with the food selection, specifically noting the absence of fried rice, a staple in many Chinese restaurants. Instead, they found only "vegetable rice and vegetable lo mein." This lack of a common dish might be a drawback for some customers expecting a traditional Chinese buffet experience. The same reviewer also raised concerns about the food quality, stating that "most dishes were watery, flavorless," and they didn't even try the "fried rice" that was present, describing it as "bright yellow, most definitely NOT fried and likely came prepackaged and frozen." This strongly negative feedback contrasts with the other reviewer's general satisfaction with the buffet, where "most of the food...was nice and hot," although they did acknowledge that "some things were not." This discrepancy highlights a potential inconsistency in food quality or significant differences in individual preferences and expectations.

The negative reviewer also commented on the overall value, stating that the food quality and selection were "not worth the $40 I paid with gratuity." This suggests that the pricing might be perceived as high relative to the quality of the food experienced by this customer. They also speculated that the majority of the food selection comes prepackaged and frozen, which, if true, could contribute to the lack of flavor and undesirable texture they described.

No specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews for East Wind Buffet. Chinese buffets sometimes offer lunch specials, senior discounts, or deals for children. To inquire about any current promotions or special offers, it would be best to contact East Wind Buffet directly using the phone numbers provided: (507) 451-9666 or +1 507-451-9666. Local users might want to inquire about pricing for different meal times (lunch vs. dinner) and any available discounts.

In conclusion, East Wind Buffet in Owatonna, MN, offers a Chinese buffet experience with a variety of options, including sushi and a dessert table, which appealed to one customer. However, another reviewer found the food quality to be poor, with watery and flavorless dishes, and noted the absence of traditional fried rice. The value for money was also questioned by the dissatisfied customer. The environment seems to be moderately busy, but seating was generally available. Potential customers should be aware of these contrasting opinions regarding food quality and selection when considering East Wind Buffet. If a wide variety, including sushi and desserts, is a priority, it might be worth a visit, but those seeking high-quality traditional Chinese dishes may want to consider the negative feedback. Inquiring about current pricing and any promotions directly with the restaurant is advisable.

My daughter and I were looking for a place to eat for lunch after visiting Cabela’s when meeting a friend. My daughter got excited about this place because they had sushi. Parking lot was slightly full, but surprisingly there was no line at the door. Took a short bit to find a seat. We did the buffet for lunch. Most of the food in the buffet was nice and hot, some things were not. I was kind of sad that they didn’t have any fried rice. They only had vegetable rice and vegetable lo mein. They had a nice variety of different things to choose from to eat and enjoy. We also enjoyed the dessert table. Overall, my daughter and I were very pleased with our lunch today.

Not impressed. The food quality and selection were not worth the $40 I paid with gratuity. Most dishes were watery, flavorless, and I didn't even bother with the "fried rice". It was bright yellow, most definitely NOT fried and likely came prepackaged and frozen. I'm guessing the majority of their selection comes this way. I had one plate and will not be back.

1st time going there, will try again. Food and sushi good. Only complaint husband thought food was old & getting hard, sesame chicken. Lots of stuff out, must not have much storage. Very clean. I enjoyed it for the most part.

Echo the similar reviews. Good food and a large variety! They do have a waiter charge for large groups (added $1 on to every single order). Service was good, but was not supper attentive. They have some pretty nice hours for flexible eating. They also have a nice lunch option to weigh food for take-out. I would check then out!
