About Dynasty Dim Sum

Dynasty Dim Sum, located at 381 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10016, USA, offers a contemporary and fusion-influenced take on the classic Chinese dim sum experience. As a Chinese Restaurant in the area, it provides a departure from the traditional dim sum cart service, presenting its dishes with a modern flair.

While some reviewers note that the offerings lean towards fusion rather than traditional Cantonese dim sum, the overall consensus is that the food is fantastic. The Tom Yum soup stands out as a highly recommended starter, praised for its rich flavor and generous amount of seafood. The wanton noodle soup is considered good, though some suggest other better options might be available locally.

The dim sum selection at Dynasty Dim Sum is wide-ranging, with most items receiving high praise. A notable exception mentioned is the lotus leaf rice, which was described as quite small with a less varied ingredient list than expected. A delightful highlight, especially for families, is the Hello Kitty dessert buns, which were a hit with children.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and can get busy, particularly on weekend evenings. One reviewer experienced significant noise from a children's birthday party at a hibachi restaurant upstairs, though it's unclear if this is a regular occurrence. The wait staff is commended for their attentiveness and kindness, even offering to reheat beverages.

For those seeking a modern interpretation of dim sum with creative presentation and flavorful dishes like the truffle oil soup dumplings, Dynasty Dim Sum is a fantastic choice. While it may not be the spot for a strictly traditional cart-style experience, it offers a unique and enjoyable culinary adventure.

While this is not really traditional dim sum - there are no carts and many of the items are what I would consider Fusion, it is really fantastic. We went on a Friday night - it was busy but not ridiculously so. Which is a good thing because the restaurant is quite small. When we were there, there was a children's birthday party in the hibachi restaurant upstairs which was extremely loud. I don't know if that is normal or was just a special occasion. We started with a couple soups - the Tom Yum is really great and does not skimp on the seafood ingredients. The wanton noodle soup was good but there are better places in the area. Then we had a wide variety of dim sum items. The only thing I found disappointing was the lotus leaf rice, which was quite small and did not have the variety of ingredients that I would expect. Everything else was phenomenal. Our daughter loved the Hello Kitty dessert buns! For a more traditional, but also cart-less experience I would recommend Tim Ho Wan, but as a modern version of dim sum, with more slicker presentation, flavoring and style, Dynasty Dim Sum is a fantastic choice.

I had a large hot sake to warm myself up... And then another one to stay warm... So in my tipsy opinion, the food was really good! But I'm sure I would've enjoyed it sober too :) Wait staff was really nice, offered to reheat the hot sake. The dim sum isn't traditional Cantonese dim sum, but good in its own way. Definitely try the truffle oil soup dumplings.

Came here for weekday around 2pm Not very crowed Big space , waiter was very nice We only order 2 dim sum and check in yelp for free hello kitty bun. Because we were really full. The hello kitty bun was way too cute! Inside was full of egg custard. Very delicious! Piggy bun was filling up with red bean. It but dry, compare to the kitty bun. But it was not too sweet! Because we were really full, so we had match bun take out. But very surprise when I ate it at home. It tasted really good! Must be more delicious if I eat it when it still warm in the restaurant!

Good spot for Asian fusion in midtown. I’ve been here multiple times and food quality has always been pretty good. Service can be iffy sometimes. There was one incident where two of the staff was playing catch and one of them tossed a bottle of water from the second floor. The catcher missed, it exploded all over the first floor with the cap flying into our noodle. My 11 year old god son was very helpful and promptly removed the offending cap or I would have called them over. That was the one bad experience. My friend who went with me that day left with a bad impression and never wanted to go back again. For all my other visits there the service has been decent for the most part. Pictures attached from a recent brunch I had with a friend. The matcha buns and hello kitty buns are worth a try, just because they’re not often seen on typical dim sum menu. The shrimp wrapped in rice noodle is very well made, I like it better than most other places. Notice there were no soup dumplings in my photos. I’ve tried them a couple of times and they’re just not as good as other places, there are much better versions out there. I like most of the items on the menu here, the soup dumplings are the only ones I’d skip. The drink menu is decent with a good variety of cocktails. I’ve tried several and they’ve always been well made.

Ate here with my kids midweek. It wasn’t busy at all so we were seated quickly. We sat at a regular table- they have hibachi tables in another area. We ordered soup dumplings, wings, rib tips, kung pao chicken and the hello kitty and piggy buns for dessert. We enjoyed all the food except the rib tips which were crispy but very fatty. My little one loved the soup dumplings and dessert buns. Service was great. They were very attentive and the prices are decent.
