About Dun Huang
Dun Huang is a Chinese restaurant located at 1370 Fullerton Rd #105 in Rowland Heights, California. Operating within the category of Chinese Restaurants, Dun Huang has garnered positive attention for its commitment to fresh, hand-pulled noodles and its distinctive approach to Chinese cuisine. They can be contacted at (626) 820-9079 or +1 626-820-9079 for inquiries.
Nestled in a strip mall in Rowland Heights, Dun Huang offers a dining experience that stands out from typical Chinese takeout. According to customer reviews, the restaurant boasts a "cozy and inviting" ambiance, making it a pleasant spot for a meal. One reviewer who visited on a Tuesday evening around 5:30 PM noted that it wasn't overly busy upon arrival, allowing for a relaxed dining atmosphere. This suggests that while it may be a popular spot, especially given the positive feedback, it might be possible to find a comfortable setting during off-peak hours.
A significant feature of Dun Huang, repeatedly highlighted by customers, is their practice of making noodles fresh in-house. Diners can even observe the noodle-pulling process through a window into the kitchen, adding an element of entertainment and transparency to the dining experience. This dedication to freshness is reflected in the taste of their noodle dishes, which have been described as having "outstanding" flavors that are "bold, well-balanced, and unlike your typical Chinese takeout." This suggests a higher quality and a more authentic taste compared to standard fast-food Chinese options.
Another aspect that sets Dun Huang apart is their incorporation of less common spices in their dishes, such as cumin. This unique twist imparts a "really unique and delicious" flavor profile that distinguishes their cuisine from more conventional Chinese fare. This adventurous use of spices suggests a willingness to explore and offer a more nuanced and interesting culinary experience to their patrons.
In terms of service, Dun Huang offers a modern convenience: ordering food through your phone. This system is praised for making the ordering process "super easy," likely streamlining the experience for both diners and staff. It reflects a forward-thinking approach to customer service and efficiency.
One notable aspect of Dun Huang's beverage offerings is that they do not serve alcohol. However, they compensate for this with a "wide variety of teas and soft drinks," catering to a broad range of preferences for non-alcoholic beverages. This focus on traditional Chinese tea and standard soft drink options aligns with a family-friendly dining environment.
Historically, Dun Huang was known for its generous portions and affordable prices, particularly for their noodles. One long-time customer fondly recalled a time when "$12 for a massive amount of noodles (especially the extra wide ones) was such an amazing price." They also mentioned a "Buy 10 orders, get a free noodle" promotion that they were able to take advantage of multiple times, indicating a previous effort to reward loyal customers. The "great atmosphere" and the large kitchen window showcasing the hand-pulled noodle preparation further contributed to this customer's positive experiences.
However, this same long-time customer noted a significant change: "Sadly, they recently raised their prices and cancelled the promo right before I moved away. I'll truly miss this place!" This indicates that while the core quality of the food and the unique aspects of the restaurant (fresh noodles, unique flavors, cozy ambiance) may still be present, the affordability and previous loyalty program have been discontinued. Potential new customers should be aware of this recent shift in pricing and the absence of the former promotion.
One minor drawback mentioned in the reviews was the price of the skewers, which were described as "$2.50 a piece, pricey as heck for how thin they were." This suggests that while the noodle dishes might be a strong point, other menu items, like the skewers, might be perceived as less value for money.
In summary, Dun Huang in Rowland Heights offers a distinctive Chinese dining experience centered around their fresh, in-house hand-pulled noodles and unique flavor profiles that incorporate spices like cumin. The restaurant provides a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the convenience of mobile phone ordering. While they do not serve alcohol, they have a good selection of teas and soft drinks. Historically known for generous portions and affordable noodle prices, along with a customer loyalty program, recent changes include a price increase and the cancellation of the promotion. Customers have generally praised the quality and unique taste of the food, although the skewers were noted as being potentially overpriced. For local users in Rowland Heights seeking a Chinese restaurant that goes beyond the typical takeout fare with freshly made noodles and interesting flavor combinations, Dun Huang is highly recommended, keeping in mind the recent changes in pricing and promotions.

This place is incredible—I’ve been telling everyone about it! I was working in the area, and my coworkers suggested we check it out on a Tuesday around 5:30 PM. It’s tucked away in a strip mall, and while it wasn’t too busy when we arrived, the ambience was cozy and inviting. We ordered a couple of noodle dishes and a few appetizers, and everything was brought out fresh as it was ready. The flavors were outstanding—bold, well-balanced, and unlike your typical Chinese takeout. What really sets this place apart is that they make their noodles fresh in-house—you can actually watch them being pulled through a window in the dining room. They also incorporate spices you don’t usually find in Chinese cuisine, like cumin, which gave the dishes a really unique and delicious twist. A couple other things to note are that you order food through your phone which makes things super easy and they also do not serve any alcohol. However they have a wide variety of teas and soft drinks. This spot is definitely one of my new favorites, and I’ll be coming back anytime I’m in the area. Highly recommend!
Used to love coming here all the time. $12 for a massive amount of noodles (especially the extra wide ones) was such an amazing price. They even had a "Buy 10 orders, get a free noodle" promo that I was able to get several times. Place has such a great atmosphere and there's a large window into the kitchen where you can watch the chef's make their handpulled noodles. Only issue was that their skewers were about $2.50 a piece, pricey as heck for how thin they were. Sadly, they recently raised their prices and cancelled the promo right before I moved away. I'll truly miss this place!
We were in the mood for lanzhou beef noodles and this restaurant came recommended by AI search results. The restaurant is also on many "best of" lists, so we felt reasonably assured that we would have good food. Correction ...the food is great. The lanzhou beef noodles were bouncy (not mushy), the soup was wonderfully spiced, and the beef slices were all tender and juicy. We also ordered the cold eggplant which contrasted well with the heat of the soup. Finally we added 5 lamb skewers which could easily have been the star of the meal, if it were not for the soup. Kudos to the staff for getting the food out quickly. There was no wait to get in. The restaurant space itself was modern yet comfortable and homey. Parking at the Diamond Plaza was a little nuts, but we were eventually able to find a space.
So many reasons that find me coming back to this amazing restaurant. The service, always amazing. The staff are very attentive, and very friendly. The food, is always on point, and you get a lot for what you paying. The flavor are always amazing, from the skewkers, to the soup noodles, to the appetizers, to the dessert. Ive never left found wanting. The choice for noodles thickness is definitely a key factor, being able to choose the noodle that fits your need at the time is key! One place that I been back so many times I lost count, and still excited for the next trip back. I can wholeheartedly suggest this restaurant
I came in around 5pm for an early dinner with the fam and I was very impressed with the quality and service of this restaurant. This restaurant probably has the cleanest tasting beef noodle soup with freshly made noodles I have ever had. The whole fish was plentiful with meat, flavor and veggies. The big plate of chicken was hearty without feeling heavy. The pickled cucumbers was refreshing and was a pretty cool cut. The lamb skewers were solid and the eggplant appetizer was very tasty. The rou jia mo was good, but not as good as the other main dishes. I also appreciate they give you thumbs up recommendations for the items on the menu and so far they have been good recommendations. I will return next time for more tasty dishes.
