About Dumpling Story

Dumpling Story is a Chinese restaurant located at 250 Grand St in New York City. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, it has received positive feedback for its food, earning a strong 4-star rating from one reviewer who enjoyed their dinner experience.

Popular dishes include the scallion pancakes, noted as tasty despite being slightly oily, sweet & sour soup, wonton spicy dumplings, and stir-fried broccoli. However, one customer found the fried noodles with chicken to be a little salty, and the milk tea to be too sweet. Hot tea (tea bag in a cup) is available for an extra $2.

A notable feature of Dumpling Story is that they do not serve alcohol, so customers are welcome to bring their own wine, beer, or other beverages (BYOB).

For customers who spend $35 or more, the restaurant offers a complimentary milk pudding shaped like a soup dumpling.

Regarding the service, one reviewer mentioned that the wait staff did not proactively clear empty dishes and that they were seated at a small table for two despite ordering a lot of food and a larger table becoming available nearby. The music played in the restaurant was described as a bit loud American pop music.

Overall, Dumpling Story offers good food, particularly their dumplings and other mentioned dishes, at a location where you can bring your own alcohol. Be mindful of potential saltiness in some dishes and the service style.

We had a really good dinner here, and it is a strong 4-stars. We had the scallion pancakes (slightly oily but really tasty), sweet & sour soup, wonton spicy dumplings and the stir fried broccoli. Note - bring your own vino, beer or whatever as they do not serve alcohol :)

Good food overall but the fried noodles with chicken was a little salty. Milk tea had too much sugar. If you want hot tea (tea bag in a cup) it’s an extra $2. Plus is getting a free milk pudding shaped like a soup dumpling but only if you spend $35+. Wait staff didn’t come over to help take away dishes that were empty as we were ordered a lot but were seated a table for two instead of shifting us to the larger one after the party next to us had left. Music was a bit loud, American pop music.

Delicious food for a great value and attentive service. They even give you a free dessert after spending $30. My only note is I wish the spicy pork soup dumplings were actually spicy. They tasted like the normal ones but with red coloring 😅. They also have great Christmas music playing at this time.

Review for the corner takeout kiosk only. Trying to replicate Shanghai You Garden in Flushing and failing terrible. The supposed Peking duck bun is nothing but old soggy precut roasted duck in plastic containers. When you order they take some out, apply sauce and torch it to heat and get a lil crisp on the skin. Nothing close to the real thing from Flushing. One of the buns even had pieces of bones in it cause the duck was chopped instead of sliced. Do not recommend.

Many times, we have passed the Dumpling Story at NW corner of Chrystie and Grant Street. First thing caught our attention is the fresh baked Shanghai pork moon cakes. Accidentally, we walked into the dine-in today, very nice and cozy décor. Found a Valentine's meal for 2, and decided to try it out. Food taste authentic, well done! The Yang Zhou fried rice is above the average, but still has some room to upgrade. Totally understand Fried Rice is typically not as easy as it sounds. 3 tips of secret for outstanding fried rice is the overnight cold rice, smaller size shrimp without being over cooked to maintain it's juicy and tenderness, and last but not the least is the fresh lard adding natural unique pork meat flavor boost the appetite. Well, this is absolutely the place we will revisit next time in town.
