About Dumpling House
Dumpling House is a Chinese restaurant situated at 2117 Belcourt Ave in Nashville, Tennessee, near Vanderbilt University in a "cute little shopping area." If you plan to drive, be aware that parking in the vicinity may be challenging, with mostly paid options available. One reviewer noted finding a parking garage with an initial free hour.
Upon entering, customers can peruse the menu and place their orders. Reviews indicate that the prices are considered fair for the food offered. However, Dumpling House has a self-service model. Customers are responsible for collecting their own utensils, napkins, and cleaning up their tables after eating. Notably, drinks are not complimentary; bottled water is available for purchase, and even for tap water with ice, a $1 charge applies for the cup.
Recent customer experiences regarding service and wait times have been mixed. One reviewer reported a significant delay in receiving their order (approximately 42 minutes for steamed dumplings) despite the restaurant being busy. This reviewer also expressed frustration at witnessing preferential treatment given to someone who ordered after them. The expectation of a tip in a self-service environment was also mentioned as a point of dissatisfaction.
Regarding the food itself, one customer found the pan-fried veggie dumplings and steamed spicy pork dumplings to be fresh with "very basic flavors." They also noted the limited availability of dumpling sauces, with only malt vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil provided on the tables, which they found unsuitable as a traditional dumpling sauce.
Overall, recent feedback suggests that while the location might be appealing and the food is described as fresh, potential customers should be aware of the self-service model, the additional charge for water cups, potential delays during busy periods, and the limited options for dumpling sauces. The experience may vary, as reflected in the contrasting detailed accounts from recent diners.

I happened upon this place when exploring Nashville. It’s in a cute little shopping area nearby Vanderbilt, however parking was not easy at all. Pretty much everything in the surrounding area was paid. We did happen to find a parking garage that was free for the first hour, so we parked and the timer started. We entered the restaurant, perused the menu and ordered. The prices were fair for the food, however they offered no drinks. They offered either $1 bottled water or you had to pay for a water cup. That’s right…they offered “free water and ice” but provided no cup, you had to pay $1 for the cup TO GET the free water and ice. Additionally, it is a complete self-service restaurant- the only thing they do is bring you the food. You must pick up your utensils/napkins/etc and you also have to clean up after yourself before you leave. So the audacity to ask for a tip when paying was absurd to me. We ordered around 11:50AM. Granted, the restaurant was busy, but it took until 12:32 before we received our food. However, what really grinned my gears was what I witnessed while waiting for my food. Somebody (I’m assuming a family member or friend), emerged from the back while chatting up the employees. They proceeded to talk for a bit and then she came out into the dining area and sat down. She looked at a menu and then ordered. She ordered around 12:15. I think it was MAYBE 5-10 minutes later they brought out multiple dishes she had ordered. Meanwhile, the rest of the dining area (my friend and I, another couple, and a family of about 6 who had also ordered first), was still waiting on all of our food. Okay, I get giving people you know personally preference, but when you have an entire dining room of guests who ordered nearly 30-40 minutes before them literally WATCH you serve them preference, no, then that’s not right. And did I mention we were on an hour timer for the parking? We basically had to swallow our food and literally run to our car to make it before we got charged. There was no reason 24 steamed dumplings should have taken nearly an hour to receive. And the final slap in the face was cleaning up after ourselves after being asked for a tip and then having to rush out because they took so long to serve. This was such an awful experience and I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
We ordered pan-fried veggie dumplings and steamed spicy pork dumplings. Both dumplins were fresh and had very basic flavors. We asked for dumpling sauce and was told that they only had the malt vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil that was on the table. None of these combinations were suitable to me as a replacement for a traditional dumpling sauce. Overall, I wish I had tried other local options. I would not come back again.
Nice spot along a row of restaurants near the Belcourt Theatre. Fast, casual dining. We tried the Spicy Pork, Chicken & Coriander and Curry Beef & Onion dumplings. The Curry Beef were the most flavorful of the three. The Chicken & Coriander was a bit bland. Cooking options include pan fried, steamed or boiled. I am partial to fried or steamed. Service was timely and outdoor seating was nice, but beware, the tables outside are VERY sticky. The Asian Pickled Cucumbers were a nice side to add as well.
I LOVE dumpling house. I usually don’t review restaurants, but I really want people to know how awesome it is here. It’s always clean, the service is great, and the food is awesome. The outside seating is so cute and great. Everyone is very kind and helpful. My fav dumplings are the pork and chive!! I love love love dumpling house!
I LOVE a good dumpling! And the dumplings here are not only delicious and varied in fillings - but you get 12 per order! AND you can have them steamed or fried. Personally, I prefer mine steamed. But both are excellent here. Yesterday we had the Chicken & Mushroom fried, and the Pork & Cabbage steamed. Yummy! Be sure to order an appetizer or two (they’ll bring it to you quickly while your hand-made dumplings are being freshly cooked) they are incredible! I recommend the Asian Pickled Cucumber and the Spicy Tofu with Peanut Sauce. Both the indoor and outdoor atmosphere is simple, clean and welcoming. The staff are very friendly, helpful and diligent! I have one teeny-tiny quibble and that’s that I prefer a thinner dumpling wrap. These are tasty and lovely, but just a little thick with a bit more chew to them.
