About Dumpling District

Dumpling District is a Chinese Restaurant located at 625 H St NW Unit 103, Washington, DC 20001, USA. Situated within Luna Hall in Chinatown, it offers a selection of made-to-order dumplings and shui mai.

The environment of Dumpling District is within a "food court" area inside Luna Hall, which also houses a bar/club in its front section. This food court features several other Asian food stands. Dumpling District is noted as being one of the few food vendors open late, even an hour before Luna Hall's closing time.

Dumpling District's service includes made-to-order preparation of their dumplings and shui mai. Customers should expect a short wait for their orders, as items are steamed fresh. One of their features is the "Rainbow Soup Dumplings," a sampler consisting of six different flavors: pork, chicken, mala, crab meat and pork, shrimp and zucchini, and black truffle. Customers found the dumplings to be flavorful and tasty, with the crab meat and pork flavor being a favorite for one reviewer. It's worth noting that the mala flavor has a spicy kick, which is not indicated on the menu.

Another highlighted item is the shui mai, which is also made to order. However, one customer did not recommend the scallion pancakes, finding them to be deep-fried and greasy instead of pan-fried.

Overall, Dumpling District is presented as a convenient eatery within Luna Hall for those craving made-to-order soup dumplings and shui mai, especially for a late-night snack in Chinatown. There is no information available regarding specific promotions at this time.

We stopped at the Dumpling District located in Chinatown inside Luna Hall late at night for a snack. The security guard for Luna Hall warmly greeted us and explained to us the setup of Luna Hall and what was available to us. The front area of Luna Hall was a bar/club and the second half was a food court with a few places to select from. Dumpling District was located at the very end and was one of the few places there that still offered food an hour before Luna Hall was closing. We ordered the Rainbow Soup Dumplings which was their soup dumpling sampler that consisted of one of each flavor that they serve. The six dumpling flavors were pork, chicken, mala, crab meat and pork, shrimp and zucchini, and black truffle. The order took a little of time to receive but they seemed to be steamed to order as they came out very hot. Everything was pretty good. The dumplings were flavorful and pretty tasty. The crab meat and pork was my favorite. I want to mention that the Mala was a little spicy which was not indicated on the menu for those of you that are not a fan of spicy foods. Overall, the dumplings were pretty good for a late night quick stop eatery.

Great made-to-order soup dumplings and shui mai. Each were made to order (see photo) so be prepared to wait a few minutes (well worth it) for your order. I didn’t like the scallion pancakes were deep fried instead of pan fried. Very greasy. The stand is located in a small ‘food court’ area in Chinatown full of other Asian food stands.

Meh to the highest degree. I tried the pork dumplings and the rainbow soup dumplings. The pork dumplings were passable but not memorable. The soup dumplings were not good and the shipping sauce was weirdly too sweet. I wouldn't go back personally. The shop is set up as part of small internal food market so you can choose your own adventure with a few other food options. The front bakery looked good but I didn't try their sweets. There was a ramen place and a couple others. Casual and quick of you want lunch options. Maybe some of the other restaurants might be better. My opinion: there are too many other choices around this area to settle for non-descript food.

The tall black man at the front was nice and super helpful, but that's where the pleasure for me ended. This is my personal experience, not to be interpreted that it will be this way for all. I rated the food 3 stars because I ordered the rainbow dumplings and it was "Eh", could've been better. I felt that the flavors weren't as distinct as I'd like. I was looking forward to the black garlic the most, and it didn't even have a garlic like aroma or taste. The spicy one wasn't spicy, just a hint - whack. The easiest one to distinguish was the seafood flavored one. The sauce was pretty good, I personally didn't care for it cold, but the vinegar flavor profiles helped a bit. My service rating is based on the wait time. Over 20mins for just 1 order of rainbow dumplings. I understand they were busy but I hadn't eaten for over 7hrs and it just felt excessive. The place is so small, I had to eat the bar and boy, was that uncomfortable. It seems like they can improve their flavors and make them stronger, and for the price, I would've enjoyed it more. Overall, won't go back, but hey, maybe their other food items are good. We'll see.

I ordered a couple of dumpling samplers and a stir fried noodle for $50 with my wife. The dumplings were generally fine but they all tasted similar. I really expected the Mala dumpling to have some spice but sadly it was flat. Noodles were low-par take out noodles. I'm sure you can find better.
