About Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc

Welcome to Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc, a Chinese restaurant located at 1146 12th Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816, USA. Situated in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu, Duk Kee has apparently been serving the local community for a significant period, as indicated by a review mentioning a return after roughly 20 years. You can contact them at (808) 734-1337 or via mobile at +1 808-734-1337.

As a "Chinese Restaurant," Duk Kee likely offers a menu featuring a variety of classic and popular Chinese dishes. These typically include a range of appetizers, soups, rice and noodle dishes, and entrees featuring different meats, poultry, and seafood prepared with various sauces and culinary techniques. Based on the customer reviews, some specific dishes offered include Lok Fun, char siu (barbecue pork), honey walnut shrimp, and gau gee (potstickers or dumplings).

To provide local users with a detailed and objective introduction to Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc, it is essential to consider the experiences shared by recent customers through online reviews. These reviews can offer valuable insights into the food quality, service, pricing, and overall dining experience, including options for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.

One recent review, dated May 10, 2025, details a mixed experience from a long-time customer who placed a DoorDash order. This customer ordered $85 worth of food, including one order of Lok Fun, one order of char siu, and one order of honey walnut shrimp. They also mentioned a "buy 1 get 1 free gau gee" promotion that they did not receive but were charged for two orders. The customer expressed disappointment with this discrepancy, noting that they paid $25.99 for what they believed should have been a better deal. They also found the pricing of $25 for 10 pieces of honey walnut shrimp to be high, especially considering the overall cost of their order and the fact that they and their wife were still hungry two hours later. This long-time customer, who had previously praised the restaurant's food and reasonable prices, expressed sadness and disappointment with this recent experience.

Another review indicates a return visit to Duk Kee after approximately 20 years, suggesting that the restaurant has been a presence in the Kaimuki area for a considerable time, potentially making it a local institution. This reviewer found the food to be "tasty, not bland," directly contradicting other reviews they may have seen. They visited on a Tuesday night around 7:30 PM and noted that only one of three dine-in tables was occupied, while there was a "steady stream of takeout orders and one Doordash pickup." This observation suggests that takeout and delivery might be more popular than dine-in at this time. The waitress informed them that the kitchen closes at 8:30 PM and that the dining room would also close at 8:30 PM if no customers remained, advising them to place their order before then. This provides important information about the restaurant's operating hours for dine-in customers on a Tuesday.

Based on these two recent reviews, we can gather several points about Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc. Firstly, it has been serving the Kaimuki community for a long time and might be considered a local institution by some. Secondly, they offer dine-in, takeout, and delivery services, with evidence of using DoorDash for delivery. Thirdly, opinions on the food quality seem to vary, with one recent customer finding it tasty while another, a long-time patron, was disappointed with their recent order in terms of value and portion size. Fourthly, there might be issues with promotional offers being applied correctly to orders. Lastly, the restaurant appears to have relatively early closing times for dine-in, at least on a Tuesday.

For local users in Honolulu considering Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc, it would be prudent to weigh these recent experiences. The fact that a long-time customer was disappointed suggests that the restaurant might have experienced some changes in pricing, portion sizes, or order accuracy. However, the other review found the food tasty, indicating that the quality might still be good for some dishes. The information about the closing time is crucial for those planning to dine in.

Given the mention of specific dishes like Lok Fun, char siu, and honey walnut shrimp, these might be popular or signature items at Duk Kee. If you are considering ordering, you might want to inquire about any ongoing promotions and ensure that they are applied correctly to your order. For those planning to dine in, it's advisable to be aware of their kitchen and dining room closing times, especially if visiting later in the evening.

The observation of more takeout and delivery activity compared to dine-in suggests that Duk Kee might be a popular choice for those wanting to enjoy Chinese food at home. If you are using a delivery service like DoorDash, it might be helpful to double-check your order upon arrival to ensure all items are included and that any advertised deals have been applied correctly.

In conclusion, Duk Kee Chinese Restaurant Inc in Honolulu's Kaimuki neighborhood is a long-established Chinese restaurant offering dine-in, takeout, and delivery services. Recent customer reviews present a mixed picture, with one long-time patron expressing disappointment with a recent order regarding pricing, portion size, and a missed promotion, while another found the food tasty. The restaurant appears to have early closing times for dine-in. Local users considering Duk Kee should be aware of these recent experiences and may want to verify order details and any promotions when placing an order.

5/10/2025 @ 2:45pm. I door dashed an order from Duk Kee for me and the wifey. I've been a long-time customer of their establishment. I have not been disappointed before but today. I couldn't believe it. I order $85 dollars of food. 1 order Lok Fun, 1 order char siu,1 order honey walnut shrimp and I was supposed to get a buy 1 get 1 free gau gee. Didn't receive that but paid for 2 orders. If I had known, I would've just paid 18 for the 10 pcs instead of 25.99. I understand inflation but not being ripped off. 10pcs of honey walnut shrimp for $25 and then charged $26 for a deal that I surely didn't get. Sad because I was bragging to my wife how good the food is and reasonably priced. Only for her to look at me disappointed when she opened the containers and we still hungry 2 hours later.

First return to this Kaimuki institution in roughly 20 years 📆 Food was tasty, not bland so I don't know why other reviews said so. My family arrived 7:30 on a Tues night and one of three dine-in tables. A steady stream of takeout orders and one Doordash pickup. Waitress says the kitchen closes at 8:30 and if there are no customers left, the dining room will also close 8:30 pm so get your order in before then.

Sorry i have to edit. Its only fair. Friendly and kind staff but hard to compare. Used to love this place, food is junk now. I understand new owners but this was a past time, flavors aren't what the taste buds remember. Beef broccoli too funky, gaugee are large with almost no filling. Sauces are too heavy. Cake noodle sauce is hard to swallow, need to thin out too goopy and not apetizing. Hoping it will improved but we've moved onto chinese in Manoa instead. Previous owner:: Our absolute local favorite and the food is so Ono! DINNER PLATE. My Go to favorite. Friendly staff of the same familiar faces. Parking is a little rough as the curbside and metered share with other businesses. Parking across the street by koa pancake has tow signs but if you call an order to pick up and are quick shouldnt have any worries. $15min for Credit/Debit card transactions or just bring cash.

Do not get their side of green beans - it was TEENY TINY for $17, and overcooked. Other food is decent.

Great deal at this popular Chinese restaurant in Kaimuki: lunch plate includes rice, Crispy Gau Gee, Pot Roast Pork, Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs, and Broccoli Beef - all for $7.25. Two people could easily share this dish but you could round it out with another like say, Honey Walnut Shrimp, like we did. The food was great - as the crowd in the dining room indicates. There is a paid parking lot behind the restaurant - the cheaper, metered lot is across the street behind the post office fronting Koko Head Avenue. I’ve never had luck finding street parking - on Sunday’s I’ll use the Bank of Hawaii parking lot on Center Street.
