About Dragon Wok

Dragon Wok, located at 8060 Academy Rd NE in Albuquerque, falls under the Chinese Restaurant category and specializes in providing classic American-style Chinese takeout. This restaurant has been a local fixture for many years, with some customers enjoying their offerings for over five years.

According to one long-term customer, Dragon Wok is a typical small, "hole-in-the-wall" establishment that serves the standard American-Chinese dishes you would expect. It's not positioned as a place for authentic ethnic cuisine or innovative fusion dishes but rather as a reliable spot for familiar takeout favorites. The reviewer emphasizes that it's the kind of place where you typically get takeout rather than dine in, and you tend to stick to your tried-and-true dishes.

Key features highlighted by this reviewer include the cleanliness of the establishment, the friendly service, and the competitive prices. The location is also noted as being convenient.

In terms of food, Dragon Wok offers a range of standard options such as General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, and curries. These dishes are described as delivering the expected salty, sweet, hot, tasty, and crunchy comfort. The garlic dishes and string bean dishes (with chicken or beef) are also mentioned as enjoyable. The fried rice is noted for being a bit lighter than some and generous with meat when that option is ordered. The egg rolls are described as average, which, according to the reviewer, is typical for a less expensive takeout place – oily but not excessively so, crispy, and with a noticeable amount of dough and cabbage.

The reviewer also suggests that there might be other worthwhile dishes on the menu that they haven't yet explored, indicating a potentially broader offering than just the standard favorites.

However, another recent review presents a contrasting experience, stating that while the food was "amazing" and possibly the best in Albuquerque, the service had significantly declined. This customer reported issues with slow service and a perceived prioritization of delivery app orders over regular customers, leading to long wait times for online orders. Due to this decline in service, this former regular customer stated they would not be returning.

In summary, Dragon Wok seems to be a long-established Chinese takeout restaurant in Albuquerque known for its classic American-style dishes, reasonable prices, and, according to one long-term customer, friendly service and cleanliness. However, recent feedback also indicates a potential issue with slow service and order prioritization. If you're looking for familiar takeout fare and convenience, Dragon Wok might be worth considering, but it's advisable to be aware of the recent service concerns.

We've been getting takeout from Dragon Wok for 5+ years now. I'm pretty surprised to read some of the negative reviews because we've never had any problems in all those years. I think the issue is that people are confused about what kind of restaurant this is? It's a typical small, almost hole-in-the-wall, American-style Chinese restaurant with all the standard dishes you'd expect. This restaurant is not for super authentic ethnic cuisine or clever fusion takes on old favorites; we're talking a CHINESE TAKEOUT restaurant here. The kind you grew up with in the 80s and 90s, getting on the way home on soccer practice or to celebrate a good report card. You never eat there, and you never stray too far from your favorites. But it's clean, has friendly service, competitive prices, and is in a convenient part of town. Over the years we've ordered the super standards (generals/orange/sesame/sweet and sour chickens, beef and broccoli, curries, etc) and gotten exactly what you'd expect. Salty, sweet, hot, tasty, crunchy comfort takeout goodness. I also like the garlic dishes and stringbean dishes, either with chicken or beef. The fried rice is actually a little lighter than I've seen in the past, and generous with meat if you order that variety. The egg rolls are completely average, which is to say EXACTLY what you should expect for a place like this: oily but not too oily, crispy, and little heavy on the dough and cabbage. But, that's pretty much every cheap eggroll I've ever had. And to be honest, I'm probably selling the place short. There are a lot of things on the menu that I haven't tried. But when it's my Friday off and I've cued up a a bunch of episodes of something I've been waiting to watch, you can't beat a cold drink and one of the lunch specials. I posted some pics from out latest takeout: Generals chicken, garlic chicken, and curry beef. All tasty and exactly what we expected.

The food here is amazing, quite possibly the best in Albuquerque. This used to be our go-to Chinese restaurant, but the service is so terrible these days, I won’t be back. I don’t know what’s happened, but they’re so slow now, and they seem to prioritize orders from delivery apps over regular customers. Not long ago, your food was ready minutes after placing an online order. The past four times, I’ve had to wait upwards of 40 minutes after arriving. It’s good food, but it’s not worth the trouble.

Small hole in the wall restaurant, mainly take out. Greeted warmly and were nice. The dining area is small and they have no plates, bowls or cups to eat there. They will use styrofoam to go containers, dixie cups and plastic to go containers for soup if you try to eat there. I ordered Hunan Chicken. The sauce was not very appetizing, and barely spicy. The flavor of the rice wasn't great either. The highlight of the meal was the broth of the wonton soup. The egg roll was well cooked however, but still bland and hot mustard tasting. They only have packaged and not good tasting soy and sweet sauce packets as well as hot mustard packets. They brought out tea and gave me a tiny doubled up dixie cup. It may be cheap for lunch but not the best tasting Chinese food in the area.

Dragon Wok is in the Sycamore Plaza off Academy Road in between bárre3 and SuperCuts in the small business area across from PetsMart. There was no greeting at Dragon Wok when I walked in. A young child, who I would estimate was around 10-12 years old and hanging out in the lobby, eventually took my order and worked the register. There were three adults working in the back of restaurant; Im not sure why a young child was working the counter. The $9.99 lunch special came with the entree, a choice of soup, an egg roll, and a fortune cookie. My soup selection, the egg drop, was quite thick and served in a to-go container with wontons on the side. I didn’t enjoy it, nor did I eat it after two or three spoonfuls. The egg roll had an odd taste, and I didn’t enjoy that either. The orange chicken entree was served in a to go container. After dropping off the food without a word, I never saw another employee again. I believe the “fried rice” was actually just brown rice with a few veggies mixed in. Like the egg drop soup and egg roll, it was not enjoyable. The orange chicken didn’t have an appealing taste, and the chicken was overcooked so it was somewhat dry and tough. My plastic fork couldn’t spear some of the pieces because of the toughness, so I had to use my fork like a spoon. I ended up tossing most of the meal in the lobby trash. As I left, I was also ignored. Given the poor customer service, no greeting or ordering from an adult, the unappetizing/poor tasting food, toughness of the meat, and to-go containers for dine in, I would never spend money at this establishment again. 1 star is generous.

Been twice trying to give the place a chance but the fried Rice has been horrible both times I've been, The Steak on a stick was good the first time but today I just threw it away. Don't even bother trying to order online for pickup.
