About Dragon Chef

Dragon Chef is a Chinese restaurant located at 4198 Washington St in Boston, Massachusetts. They can be contacted at (617) 327-3650 or +1 617-327-3650. As a local Chinese restaurant, Dragon Chef offers a variety of Chinese dishes for the community.

Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at Dragon Chef appear to be mixed. Some customers have found the food to be bland, citing issues with dishes like cashew chicken being boiled and flavorless, and pork fried rice being plain. One reviewer mentioned that the beef teriyaki contained too much baking soda, causing a tingling sensation, and the lo mein was overwhelmed with onions and bean sprouts. However, this same reviewer noted that the crab Rangoon was enjoyable, particularly because it was fried in sesame oil.

In terms of service, at least one customer found the staff to be nice. The prices are also mentioned as being cheap.

The atmosphere of the restaurant seems to be an area of concern for some patrons. One review described the presence of a rat trap at the entrance, broken tiles, spider webs, and dirty walls. This customer also noted the environment inside as being dry and humid, leading to a wait outside.

Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. I was really hoping to enjoy this place since it is very close to my commute, but it is extremely bland. We ordered cashew chicken and it appears that they just took chicken and vegetables and boiled them. The chicken is pale white, flavorless, and still has the fat that usually cooks off in the pan. The pork fried rice is fine but also quite plain. The staff were nice enough and the price is cheap but I am very disappointed by the food.

The lady at the front was nice. Food was ok, the beef teriyaki had too much baking soda so my tongue was tingling for a hot minute, the lo mein was over powered with onion and bean sprouts (couldn’t really taste anything besides the beansprouts), their crab Rangoon was really nice (I liked that it was fried in the sesame oil instead of regular oil, gave it a nice taste). As for atmosphere it was a turn off, there’s a rat trap at the door as soon as you walk in, broken tiles, spider webs, dirty walls. It’s very dry and humid, had to wait outside.

As vegans, we were disgusted. We ordered a tofu vegetarian dish, which turned out to have recycled brown sauce with pork. We confronted them with this, and their contempt was naked. And to boot, we were over-charged. The smallish meal for one family cost nearly $70, and that turned out to not include white rice. Disgusting. Inedible. Overpriced. Zero respect for customers.

So I order using the online menu, and I’m appalled that when I picked up my order, it was $10 more than the online menu indicated. I order 1 dinner (fried rice/2 appetizers) and small side order of Peking Ravioli (total of 4). Cost of $24.40. I could have splurged on Chipotle for far less and much better food. I mentioned to the female cashier about the discrepancies of the online menu and she immediately became defensive, explaining that the online menu had been updated. I responded that obviously some advertisers did not get the memo. She persisted to the point where I said, look, it is what it is. You haven’t informed your public and that’s on you. She blamed her boss and said she’d inform him. I doubt I’m the only person who’d experienced surprise, and the first time she said she’d tell her boss. I’d guess the next time she tells her boss WILL BE THE FIRST TIME though. The food? I’’m from Roslindale and patronized this same business since 1980 or so when it opened. Original manager was fabulous. You went in, he knew what you wanted, we talked baseball the whole time, he was a huge fan. The neighborhood owned him. He was one of us. Always the tastiest food. Today I ordered Kung Pao extra spicy, Egg Roll, and Peking Ravioli side. Fried rice was part of the dinner component. I’ve never tasted Kung Pao Chicken so tasteless. Spicy? Milk has more zest to it than this slop. And it didn’t look like a good quality dish, chicken, vegetable, etc. no peanuts which always is part of the dish. Sub par as to appetizing view. Terrible food. Egg Roll was ok. Peking’s, nothing to stop in or go out of your way for. Being a customer of this place for over 40 years? No more. Done. There are plenty of Chinese food restaurants right there in Rossie Square. I’ll give them a try. I hope this review provides you with some forwarded insight. Caveat Emptor.
