About Double Dragon

Double Dragon is a Chinese restaurant situated at 1305 S Main St in Blacksburg, Virginia, conveniently located for those visiting the Virginia Tech campus and local residents alike. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Double Dragon offers a somewhat unconventional dining experience compared to traditional sit-down establishments. Based on recent customer reviews, it's important for potential local users to be aware of its counter service model, the variability in food quality and menu offerings compared to other regions, and potential inconsistencies in customer service.

The environment at Double Dragon is described as not being a "typical sit-down restaurant." This is a key characteristic, as customers order their food at the counter, and the staff then brings the order to their table. This model suggests a more casual and perhaps quicker dining experience, leaning towards a fast-casual approach rather than full table service. One reviewer who dined in noted that there were no other customers present at the time, which might indicate varying levels of business depending on the time of day or week. While the ambiance isn't detailed extensively, the focus on counter service implies a functional setting designed for efficiency.

The service at Double Dragon appears to have elicited mixed reactions from customers. One reviewer, a second-generation Chinese-American, reported a negative experience with the staff at the cash register. They recounted feeling "ridiculed" for their Chinese language skills, with a staff member allegedly making a point of commenting on the perceived poorness of their Chinese. This is a significant concern as it indicates a lack of cultural sensitivity and unprofessional behavior. In contrast, the first reviewer, who was visiting from New Jersey, did not mention any issues with the service, focusing instead on the food. This suggests that service experiences might vary depending on individual interactions and perhaps the specific staff member encountered.

The food at Double Dragon has also received somewhat varied feedback. The reviewer from New Jersey, accustomed to a particular style of Chinese cuisine, noted that Double Dragon did not offer French fries with their Chicken Wings and Pork Fried Rice order, nor did they use bean sprouts in their cooking, which was unexpected. Despite these differences from their familiar dishes, they concluded that the food was "definitely solid" overall. However, the second reviewer found the food to be "average," specifically describing the dumplings as "very ordinary and quite small." This suggests that while some dishes might be acceptable, others may not meet the expectations of all customers in terms of quality and preparation. The mention of "Chinese 'donuts'" and "beef stir fry" by the second reviewer hints at other menu items available, but without further description, it's difficult to assess their quality.

A notable feature of Double Dragon is its operational model, which is centered around counter service rather than traditional table service. This might be appealing to customers looking for a quicker meal or a more informal dining setting. However, it also means that customers should not expect the level of attentiveness associated with full-service restaurants. The menu seems to offer standard Chinese-American fare, although, as noted by one reviewer, certain regional staples or common side items might not be available. The absence of bean sprouts in their cooking, for example, could be a characteristic of their specific culinary style.

The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers or discounts at Double Dragon. Local users interested in knowing about any lunch specials, family deals, or other promotions are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at (540) 552-6651 or +1 540-552-6651. Direct inquiry would be the best way to obtain the most current information on any special offers that might be available.

Located at 1305 S Main St in Blacksburg, VA 24060, USA, Double Dragon is situated on a main thoroughfare, likely making it easily accessible for students at Virginia Tech and other local residents. The presence of both a local and a mobile phone number facilitates easy contact for placing takeout orders or inquiring about the menu. The proximity to the university campus suggests that it might be a popular spot for students seeking Asian cuisine.

In conclusion, Double Dragon in Blacksburg, Virginia, offers a counter-service Chinese dining experience that may differ from traditional sit-down restaurants. While one reviewer found the food to be solid despite some regional variations, another described it as average, with specific disappointment in the dumplings. A significant concern was raised regarding unprofessional and culturally insensitive behavior from a staff member towards a customer. Potential local users should be aware of the counter service model and the possibility of inconsistencies in food quality and customer service. Given the mixed feedback, especially the serious service issue reported, it might be prudent for new customers to manage their expectations and perhaps consider trying a small order initially to assess whether Double Dragon meets their preferences and standards.

While I was visiting Virginia Tech Campus. Wanted some Chinese and landed here. I’m Originally from New Jersey where Chinese food is like a staple. Growing up around it all my life pretty much and know good and bad places. A staple meal for me is ChickenWings&PorkFriedRice w/ French Fries. Which they didn’t have French fries or cook with bean sprouts which threw me for a loop . Overall the food was definitely solid.

Double Dragon isn't your average sit-down restaurant. They don't have servers, so you just order at the counter and they'll bring the food to you. I'm a second generation Chinese-American and my Chinese isn't quite at the level of native speakers. I still always try to speak Chinese whenever I'm at a Chinese restaurant. However, I felt ridiculed by the lady running the cash register - who went out of her way to mention how poor my Chinese is. I brushed that off and still ordered my food. My friend and I ate-in, and there weren't any other people at the restaurant. The food was average. I found the dumplings to be very ordinary and quite small. I wish that I had better words to say, but I overall didn't have a good time here and won't be back. Dumplings, Chinese "donuts", beef stir fry

Have ordered food for takeout pretty often from here and eaten in a few times. It's a little expensive, but you do get a large portion of food. All my orders have been correct, and I never really have had any issues.

Idk what happened to this place, it used to be the spot. The food so nasty it couldn’t even be doctored. $30 in the trash, literally threw it all away.

First time eating here. Ordered to go, the woman at the register was helpful and nice. The food was ready in 15 minutes. We ordered the following: Bean curd home style- tasted decent, portion was a little on the small side compared to other places I'm used to from where I used to live. Would order again. Spring roll- mushy, did not taste fresh, slight freezer burn taste. Would not order again. Cheese wontons- these were crab Rangoon filling inside a folded in half deep fried wonton. Barely one teaspoon of filling inside, you could essentially take one bite from the center, get all the filling, and be left with 4 more bites of dry wonton. Would not order again. General Tso chicken combo- very small portion. At least half the "chicken" were just balls of breading with no chicken in them (stopped eating with several pieces left so don't know if they were chicken or breading only). Pork egg roll that came with it was average. Would not order again. Vegetable lo mein and pork lo mein- completely inedible for both dishes. I cannot describe how awful they smelled, nor can I describe the taste to do the disappointment justice. It was like burnt oil, old wet hot bread, and dish water all together. Absolutely would not order again. Overall, will not be returning.
