Located in the heart of Seattle's Chinatown at 617 S Jackson St, Dim Sum King offers local users a taste of authentic Cantonese dim sum. This Chinese restaurant is a go-to spot for those craving traditional flavors, especially early in the morning as it opens at 7 am, making it one of the few options available before 10 am in the neighborhood. Its proximity to King Street Station makes it particularly convenient for travelers and commuters.
Dim Sum King provides both dine-in and takeout services, catering to different preferences. Customers have noted the quick and delicious nature of their offerings, although waiting times may occur during peak hours, such as around noon on Sundays. To streamline the ordering process, order slips are available at the entrance, allowing customers to specify their desired items.
A highlight of Dim Sum King is their classic Cantonese-style dim sum. Customer reviews praise specific items like the flaky and flavorful egg tarts, described as small and mighty with a traditional Hong Kong style. While the peanut mochi may sell out quickly due to its popularity, other options like the melon pan are also available. One of the very few restaurants that is open before 10am (7am actually for this place) in Chinatown neighborhood. Best option if you are into authentic Cantonese style dim sum and waiting for a train close to King Street Station like myself. No restriction on credit card use if order above $10. Okay pack to go or dine-in.
- quick and delicious - Okay maybe not so quick when there is a long time, but I've waited for maybe 10 minutes around noon on Sunday to order my takeout. I got 2 egg tarts and 1 melon pan as the peanut mochi that I wanted was sold out. They have order slips by the entrance that you can use to tell them what you want for your order. It seems you can only pay cash if it's less than $10 dollars, so you can order more to use your card. My order was around $4.6. The egg tart has a super flaky crust, and it was small and thin compared to other places. The tart part was standard with no burnt marks or anything. It's basically small and mighty.. an old hk style egg tart. My husband ate the melon pan so I can't say anything about it lol. Definitely check it out if you are in the area for some quick dim sum takeout.
Long review, but worth it. I don’t know why I went here instead of my regular places for take out dim sum, but I stopped in on Mon around 3pm close to when they sell out. I’ve been here a couple of times before. I didn’t use the paper order sheet but verbally ordered. I asked for Baked Char Siu Hom Bao and the lady pointed to the 6 already packaged in clear to go container. I asked to confirm that it was char siu and she said yes. Well it turned out it was a mix of 4 Char Siu and 2 Custard filled baos, and I didn’t notice the slight difference in looks at the time. And the photo shows just a skimpy smear of BBQ pork filling, so disappointing, the worst I’ve ever had. They should be embarrassed to sell these hom baos. Other items I purchased was shrimp har gao (small and just ok), radish cake (ok) and pork hash which was prob the best of all. I also ordered a couple of sticky rice which I haven’t had yet. My bill was $36 which I thought was high, but you don’t get an itemized receipt, or receipt of any kind when I paid cash. I even left a tip in the jar. I always feel rushed to order here like I’m on the stock trader floor just before the bell rings. Won’t be going back.
Waiting for the train and I wanted dim sum. Filled out the menu card by checking the boxes, handed it to the super nice ladies and was on my way in no time. Great food, excellent value and super fast food to go. Very happy. Food was expertly packed up and delicious!
Dim Sum, Anywhere: A Takeout Revelation Some meals are eaten. Others are experienced. And then there’s dim sum done right—so good it transports you beyond the confines of your own home, turning your dining table, office desk, or even the front seat of your car into a Cantonese feast for the senses. Dim sum is often thought of as a sit-down experience, a communal ritual. But this takeout spot proves otherwise. The magic of dim sum isn’t in the setting—it’s in the care taken to create each bite, the balance of flavors and textures that make Cantonese cuisine an art form. Whether you’re sharing these dishes with loved ones or savoring them solo, one thing is certain: this isn’t just takeout. It’s tradition, packed neatly in a box, ready to be unwrapped and devoured. Some meals you forget. This one lingers. And the best part? No reservations required.
