About Dim Sum Dumpling House
Welcome to Dim Sum Dumpling House, a Chinese restaurant located at 417 W Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801, USA. Situated in the heart of Alhambra, Dim Sum Dumpling House aims to provide a unique and comforting dining experience centered around the popular Chinese culinary traditions of dim sum and dumplings. This establishment has garnered attention, particularly within the local community, for its special offerings and home-style approach to cooking.
For inquiries or to place an order, Dim Sum Dumpling House can be contacted at (626) 598-8787 or via mobile at +1 626-598-8787. Feel free to reach out to them for information about their menu and services.
As a Chinese restaurant specializing in dim sum and dumplings, Dim Sum Dumpling House offers a variety of small, savory dishes that are typically enjoyed during brunch or as part of a shared meal. Dumplings, a broad category encompassing various fillings and preparations (steamed, pan-fried, boiled), are likely a central feature of their menu. Dim sum includes a wider range of items such as buns, rolls, and bite-sized delicacies, often served in steamer baskets. The name "Dim Sum Dumpling House" strongly suggests that both of these categories will be well-represented.
Customer reviews provide a nuanced perspective on the dining experience at Dim Sum Dumpling House. One particularly exciting aspect highlighted is the availability of vegan xiao long bao, a type of soup dumpling. The reviewer expressed enthusiasm at finding a place in the San Gabriel Valley (SGV) offering this rare vegan option, noting that while vegan dumplings are more common, vegan xiao long bao is a unique find. They described the vegan xiao long bao as "yummy and juicy" and also mentioned that the sesame noodles they ordered were "good," indicating some successful dishes on the menu.
Another reviewer described Dim Sum Dumpling House as offering a "cozy, home-style dining experience," with food that feels "comforting and reminiscent of traditional Chinese 'mama's kitchen.'" This suggests a warm and perhaps less formal atmosphere, focusing on the quality and tradition of the food. The reviewer appreciated the "homemade quality" of the dumplings and other dishes as a highlight of the place. However, they also pointed out some areas for potential improvement. Specifically, while the xiao long bao and beef pancake were described as "tasty," they unfortunately suffered from "thick skin," which detracted from the delicate balance of flavors typically expected in these dishes.
Further feedback from the same reviewer noted that the "glutinous rice siu mai with pork" was "a bit of a letdown." The expectation was for sticky rice throughout the dish, but the "unexpected pork in the middle" was a surprise that "threw off the taste" for this particular customer. This suggests that some dishes might have unconventional preparations or fillings that could be unexpected for those familiar with standard versions.
A significant point of concern raised in one of the reviews is the service speed. The reviewer noted that "Service is slow," attributing this to the fact that "there is only one person managing everything--from taking orders to cooking and handling payments--which leads to longer wait times." This is a critical piece of information for potential diners, as it suggests that patience might be required when visiting Dim Sum Dumpling House, especially during busy periods.
Adding to the potential discomfort of the dining experience, the same reviewer mentioned "the lack of air circulation" which "made the atmosphere stuffy, making it a bit uncomfortable to enjoy the meal fully." This is an important aspect of the environment that could impact the overall satisfaction of customers, particularly during warmer weather or when the restaurant is crowded.
Despite these criticisms, the reviewer expressed support for this "mom-and-pop business," especially given the positive buzz surrounding it. They hoped that the restaurant could improve on the "small details" mentioned to truly excel, acknowledging the "potential here" and expressing a desire to see them succeed. This suggests that while there are areas needing attention, the underlying quality or concept of Dim Sum Dumpling House has promise.

The reviews do not provide specific details about the overall decor or ambiance beyond it being "cozy" and "home-style." So excited to find this place in SGV that has vegan xiao long bao!! Most places have vegan dumplings (like din tai fung), but not easy to find vegan xiao long bao. They were yummy and juicy. We also got the sesame noodles which were good.

This's a great restaurant, the food is very delicious.especially the juicy dumplings, very juicy, just carefully it's hot.and also there are many flavors to choose.especially the black truffle juicy dumpling, which is my daughter's favorite. Beef warp and wonton with red chili oil are also great. Will come back for fure.
It's bad. I think they only sell reheated dim sum at a huge mark up. One of the sticky rice was dry and wasn't even warm from the microwave. The xiao long bao skin is so thick and hard to chew. And it's really expensive for no reason. Go next door or across the street instead.
It’s just not a good dumpling place. Was served hot tea in a tall beer glass. Wonton soup tasted reheated, soup dumpling skin was way too thick. Service wasn’t much better, with our server seeming both flustered and confused with only two couples in the whole restaurant. Also, pricier than surrounding options. The bowls were like oily on the bottom when you would pick them up. Just a lot of not great stuff.
