About Dim Sum Bistro
Dim Sum Bistro, located at 675 Broadway in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown, is a Chinese restaurant specializing in a wide variety of authentic dim sum. Based on recent customer reviews, this family-owned establishment offers a substantial menu with up to 69 different dim sum options, providing a diverse selection for those seeking traditional Chinese small plates. While the focus appears to be primarily on takeout, the authenticity and variety of the offerings make it a noteworthy spot for dim sum enthusiasts.
The environment at Dim Sum Bistro is described as "very small" and was "crowded" during one customer's visit. This suggests that the space may be limited, and it is important to note that, according to the same reviewer, "there is no seating." This is a crucial piece of information for potential customers, indicating that Dim Sum Bistro primarily caters to takeout orders. The bustling atmosphere and limited space might contribute to a sense of authenticity, typical of busy Chinatown eateries focused on quick service and carry-out.
In terms of services, Dim Sum Bistro primarily functions as a takeout establishment, given the lack of seating. Customers place their orders at the counter and likely take their food to enjoy elsewhere. One reviewer recounted an incident while waiting in line where another person attempted to cut in front, but the staff behind the counter promptly addressed the situation and ensured the correct order of service. This suggests that the staff is attentive to customers waiting to place orders, even in a crowded environment. The reviewer also mentioned hearing the family speaking in their native language while preparing the food, which added to the feeling of an "authentic China town dim sum family owned find." This linguistic backdrop can contribute to the overall cultural experience for customers.
The primary feature of Dim Sum Bistro is its extensive menu of dim sum, boasting "up to 69 different options." This wide variety allows customers to explore a broad range of traditional and perhaps some unique dim sum delicacies. The reviews provide specific feedback on a few of these items. The Pork Bun was described as having a "very sweet" filling, and the meat did not taste very fresh, leading the reviewer to consider it just "ok." In contrast, the Shrimp Dim Sum was found to be "tasty," and the Fried Dumplings also received a positive rating with a "😋" emoji. The Soup Dumplings were noted to have a "good taste," but the reviewer and their companions were not fans of the texture.
The mixed reviews on specific items suggest that while Dim Sum Bistro offers a wide selection, the quality of individual dishes may vary. However, the positive remarks about the Shrimp Dim Sum and Fried Dumplings indicate that there are definitely well-prepared and enjoyable options available. The authenticity highlighted by one reviewer, along with the sheer number of choices, remains a significant draw. For those familiar with and appreciative of traditional Chinatown dim sum, the potential for discovering well-executed classics among the many options could be appealing.

In conclusion, Dim Sum Bistro in San Francisco's Chinatown is a family-owned establishment offering a very extensive menu of authentic dim sum, with up to 69 different choices. It primarily functions as a takeout restaurant due to its small size and lack of seating. While experiences with individual items like the Pork Bun and Soup Dumplings were mixed, the Shrimp Dim Sum and Fried Dumplings received positive feedback. The bustling atmosphere and the sounds of the family speaking their native language contribute to the authentic Chinatown feel. For those seeking a wide variety of traditional dim sum for takeout in San Francisco's Chinatown, Dim Sum Bistro is a place worth considering, keeping in mind the lack of seating and the potential for variability in the quality of individual items. We stopped in based on reviews and tried a few items: pork bun, soup dumplings, fried dumplings and shrimp dim sum. The filling in the pork bun was very sweet and the meat didn’t taste very fresh, so it was just ok. The shrimp dim sum was tasty and so were the fried dumplings😋. The soup dumplings had a good taste but I don’t think any of us were fans of the texture. The place is very small and was crowded when we entered, so we had to find a corner to review the menu. FYI: there is no seating. While standing in line a lady attempted to cut us and place her order. The lady behind the counter promptly informed her that we were next in line and took our order. This was appreciated as she didn’t seem to speak English. I would try this place again if ever in the area.
Very authentic China town dim sum family owned find. Up to 69 different options on the menu to choose from. While you wait you can hear the sounds of the foreign native languages of the family as they speak to one another while preparing our food. So much fun.
This is our preferred steamed dim sum shop. We usually order online on the drive and the wait is much shorter when we arrive to pick up. The iPad inside the shop is helpful with photos. Credit card is accepted. +Shrimp dumplings (only order enough for day of, it doesn't keep) +Shu mai (shrimp & pork) +Shark's fin dumplings +Rice noodles (crepe) with dried shrimp (generally available on weekends) +Rice cake Occasionally, we will try a rice + pork ribs plate or chicken feet. All items are great when you're picnicking with some hot tea! (We get our baked goods & steamed bbq pork buns elsewhere.)
Affordable dim sum take out place with decent yummy offerings. There's often a line but there's also a tablet on the table for you to place your own order. I opt for the ordering sheet to check off for multiple items. Looking at the wall menu is not easy with so many choices. The staff is friendly to help you with the process. The Har Gaw, pork shrimp chives dumplings and beef sui Mai are perfect in seasoning. Not too salty and no weird textures just the way I like them. Quality and size is as good as any dine-iin big restaurant, maybe better. Don't forget they also have rice dish and noodles but there's a waiting time, so I just go shop and come back to pick up your order.
This is a great place to stop and grab a quick bite. Not too many vegetarian options, but the sesame balls are heavenly and the spring rolls are deliciously crispy. The prices are great and depending on the time of day, the wait is decent. Well worth it either way!
