About Dew Drop Inn
Welcome to Dew Drop Inn, a Chinese restaurant located at 1088 S Beretania St. in Honolulu, Hawaii. This establishment has a notable history within the local community, with at least one patron recalling visits from as far back as thirty years ago. Situated in the heart of Honolulu, Dew Drop Inn offers a dining experience that blends nostalgic charm with a familiar menu of Chinese dishes.
According to a recent customer review, the ambiance of Dew Drop Inn is described as small but cozy. This intimate setting may appeal to those seeking a more traditional and less expansive dining environment. The reviewer also fondly remembers two older, silver-haired women working at the restaurant during their childhood visits, and was pleased to find two older women, though not quite silver-haired, still present upon a recent return. This continuity in staff suggests a long-standing and perhaps family-run establishment, contributing to its enduring presence in the community.
The menu at Dew Drop Inn features a variety of classic Chinese dishes. One particularly praised item is the house fried rice, which was enjoyed by a returning customer and their spouse. This suggests that the house fried rice is a reliable and flavorful choice. Another dish that received high praise from a different reviewer was the shrimp breading, described as "the best I can fathom." This positive feedback indicates that certain preparations, particularly those involving seafood, may be a strong suit of the restaurant.
However, recent experiences with other menu items were less favorable for one returning customer. The shrimp and pork spicy sauce wontons were noted to contain a significant amount of cilantro, both within the filling and as a garnish, which unfortunately overpowered the dish for this particular diner. This highlights the importance of personal preference and the potential for specific ingredients to heavily influence the overall taste experience.
Similarly, the shrimp and pork pot stickers were described as potentially good, but the accompanying table-side sauce, which was heavy with toasted sesame, detracted from the flavor for the reviewer. The customer acknowledged that this might have been due to a lack of understanding on their part regarding the sauce, but the strong sesame flavor ultimately diminished their enjoyment of the pot stickers. This suggests that while the core preparation of the pot stickers might be satisfactory, the sauces and accompaniments play a crucial role in the overall dish.
Despite the mixed feedback on specific dishes, the enduring presence of Dew Drop Inn and the positive recollections of past experiences indicate that it holds a special place for some members of the local community. The nostalgic element, combined with the consistently praised house fried rice and the exceptional shrimp breading reported by another customer, suggests that Dew Drop Inn offers a range of dishes that can satisfy different palates.
For those considering a visit to Dew Drop Inn, it is located at 1088 S Beretania St., Honolulu, HI 96814. They can be reached by phone at (808) 526-9522 or via mobile phone at +1 808-526-9522. Given the varied recent reviews, it might be beneficial to inquire about specific ingredients or sauces when ordering, especially if you have any sensitivities or strong preferences. While Dew Drop Inn may evoke fond memories for long-time patrons, new visitors can still explore its menu and potentially discover some truly "insanely good" dishes, as one reviewer enthusiastically stated about their noodle and overall flavor experience.
In conclusion, Dew Drop Inn represents a long-standing Chinese dining option in Honolulu with a cozy atmosphere and a history within the local community. While experiences with certain dishes may vary, the restaurant appears to have some standout items like the house fried rice and potentially their shrimp preparations. For those seeking a local Chinese restaurant with a touch of nostalgia, Dew Drop Inn is worth considering. insanely good - the shrimp breading was the best i can fathom. noodles were fantastic, great flavor all around, very impressed!
I remember going to this restaurant thirty years ago as a child of about seven with my dad. I remember it being small, but cozy and two older, silver haired aunties working inside. I confess, I wasn’t a picky child and liked everything that I ate here, especially the steamed rice. Having found it still open and in the same location I had to try it with my wife. We arrived at the perfect time to find a parking spot and went inside to be greeted be two older aunties, not quite silver haired. One took our party size and we were sat within moments. I remember seeing a chef on the menu and looking through the pages. After a few minutes we ordered the house fried rice, shrimp and pork spicy sauce wonton, and the shrimp and pork pot sticker. Unfortunately, of the three, my wife and I only liked the house fried rice. The wontons had a healthy dose of cilantro in each and as a garnish overpowering the dish. The potstickers would have been good, but the sauce at table side was heavy with toasted sesame. This may have been my fault as a lack of understanding on my part, but it killed the flavor unfortunately. It was a good memory relived, but I may prefer going to a more well understood dining experience.
I was invited to go to Dew Drop Inn for dinner and all I can say is wow. I have never tried this place before and it really was great. Let's start off with the food. This is Northern Chinese cuisine so it's not like the traditional Cantonese food you see around town. I don't get to eat this style of cuisine very often so I truly enjoyed it. The dumplings and pork chops were some of my favorite items. They also allow for BYOB which is great. The restaurant is rather small so if you have a big party I would recommend that you call in advance to get seating. If not, you may not be able to find a spot or have to wait to be seated. The service here is great and the staff is very friendly. I wish I knew about this place sooner. If you are looking for a new spot to try then give this place a shot.
My New Favorite Chinese. Restaurant Is Super Cute, Casual & Cozy Vibes. My 2nd Time Eating Here & Its So Ono! Food Is Definitely Flavorful & Yummy!! The Employees Are Delightful & Friendly. My Go To Is The Orange Beef, House Fried & String Beans. 10/10 Recommend! Thank You Dew Drop Inn For Such Bomb Food, Service & Atmosphere! 🙏🏼
My current favorite restaurant in Honolulu. I recommend the beef tendon, orange chicken, and spicy wonton but everything we've tried has been fantastic. The service is always great and it's a very cozy spot.
