Customers have generally enjoyed the food at DASHI Chinese Kitchen + Bar. One reviewer who visited on Christmas Day with a reservation was seated promptly and appreciated the waiter explaining the menu. They highlighted the amazing soup dumplings and the "bangin" Chengdu wontons in garlic sauce as standouts. The duck was described as tender and juicy, while the smashed cucumbers were noted for their unique sourness.

We showed up 15 minutes early for our 12 o'clock reservation on Christmas Day and were greeted and sat promptly! We were sat at a small table in the back corner near the stage which was fine with us. Minute or so later our waiter came over and explained the menu to us and took our drink orders. He quickly came back and we placed our appetizer orders. Short few minutes later our orders started to arrive. First we got the bougie egg drop soup. It was warm and pretty hardy but no flavor at all... so I had to ask for salt n pepper and that definitely helped. Next we got the soup dumplings and they were amazing! Next was the Chengdu wontons in the bangin garlic sauce and they were bangin!! We then received the duck and smashed Cucumbers. The duck was tender and juicy and my wife really enjoyed it, the Cucumbers were unique to say the least... very sour like made with vinegar and there was tofu skin that was strange to me but I still ate them all! Once I was able to get my waiters attention again we ordered cold garlic noodles and sal and pepper fish and another tea. He took my cup and never returned, we did get the rest of the food from someone else and the noodles were great and the fish was amazing! Maybe we were too hidden away in the corner but service was not the greatest... we had a good time, the food was good, and it was reasonably priced but I would not travel back the 40 minutes it took us to get there.

I absolutely enjoyed our meal. Plates were coming so fast that I didn't even get to take pics of everything. My favorite things were the spicy eggplant and the pork belly. A big surprise was how delicious the boy choy side dish was. They looked plain, but the flavor kissed my taste buds like it was my husband. The fried rice was really good too, they add a lot of veggies to it. Their alcoholic drink menu did not disappoint! I highly recommend this place if you enjoy Szechuan style Chinese food. Oh, and the portions are huge and made for sharing, family style.

I don’t tend to take a lot of photos of food, but I did snap my hemp infused mocktail & my to go box after we ate our fill. Enjoy lol I’ve got no complaints, from start to finish this place just kept impressing. The drinks were delicious. My friend had a couple of Manhattan’s that he said went “really excellent” with all the food. And I had the mint+cucmber, hemp infused mocktail with a single dose… so frigging delicious. The menu was kind of overwhelming in that everything looked and sounded good. I love that it was color coded. Our waiter was a huge help in figuring out what he wanted- he described the different plates really well so I knew what to expect of each plate and was not let down. We got the Tribute to Grandma, Garlicky PB (pork belly) rolls, the Wok Seared chicken and the Twice as Nice. Our server was repetitively apologetic about the timing of the food, but we had no issue! Since the food is family style plates, everything is a shareable so it really didn’t matter when what comes out. I can’t stress enough how incredibly tasty everything was! Nothing was too spicy or not spicy enough. The PB rolls had this sauce on top that we dipped our Tribute to Grandma buns in; we just couldn’t get enough. Rice is complimentary, but I’ll say I usually end up chowing through two bowls of rice myself anytime I eat Chinese but this time we only went through a single bowl between the two of us because oh my god the plates were just too good. Great sized plates, amazing value. Oh also, we went around 4pm and the place was dead (between service and all) so we had a very relaxed meal. It was great. The service was well timed and friendly, the staff hanging around were welcoming, decor is cute af (love the plum walls), and every dish hit. This place is a definite gem and will be making all of my friends come here from now on :) Oh! Kinda lowkey love that my coke came in a can and not from the bar’s tap. Not sure what it tells me about the restaurant but it made me love it a bit more.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate a coworker's birthday on a Monday evening. The place was busy but not crowded, creating a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. However, the server took quite a while to take our order, which was a bit frustrating. Once our order was placed, the food arrived at a good pace. The chicken dumplings were delicious and the chicken wings were flavorful. We also ordered numerous other items like the noodles, duck, spring rolls, and steamed buns; everything was decent and the portion sizes were shareable. One downside was the service. Our waiter seemed very casual and lacked knowledge about the menu. When we asked for some insight on certain dishes, he mentioned he wasn’t sure as he had just rejoined after being away for some time and hadn't been updated on the changes. His responses were often informal, like "I don’t know, man." Overall, the restaurant had a chill vibe and the decor was distinctly Asian. Despite the service hiccup, I would visit again for the tasty food and relaxed atmosphere.

We went to Dashi after seeing it on the list of top 25 restaurants in San Antonio. We had a reservation, and were promptly seated but it took a few minutes for our server to come over(he seemed pretty busy) we ordered the chicken soup dumplings, the pork belly cucumber rolls, the signature extra large shrimp, the cumin lollipops, and the Lo mein with chicken, shrimp and veggies. The shrimp was well cooked with a yummy breading, the lamb chops were yummy and the Lo mein was good too. Our server warned us that the food comes out upon readiness rather than in the tradition three course style. Because of the that, the soup dumplings didn’t come out until well into the meal and they were not as hot as we would’ve preferred but they were very yummy. Overall, we would recommend this restaurant.
