About dan modern chinese - santa monica

Located at 1403 2nd St in Santa Monica, dan modern chinese offers a contemporary interpretation of Chinese cuisine. This Chinese restaurant has garnered attention for its neat and beautifully decorated interior, providing a modern and clean atmosphere for diners.

Customer reviews indicate that the service is generally fast and friendly. However, some diners have noted that food may come out quite slowly and individually, rather than all at once. Be prepared for a potentially staggered delivery of your order.

The food at dan modern chinese appears to have an Americanized spin, and may not align with those seeking strictly authentic Chinese flavors. One reviewer found the veggie dumplings flavorful, though they were unsure of the filling (which appeared to contain minced kale). However, this same reviewer noted that the soy sauce was excessively salty. Another customer described the Ma Po tofu as solid, while the dumplings were considered "mid." Notably, the Dan Noodles were strongly discouraged by one reviewer, who found them to be excessively sweet and "awful."

While some customers found the portions to be less generous, the overall consensus suggests that the pricing may be considered overpriced for the quality of the food. This is potentially attributed to the restaurant's downtown Santa Monica location, which is a touristy area with higher overhead costs.

If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant with a modern ambiance in Santa Monica and are open to a non-traditional approach to Chinese dishes, dan modern chinese might be worth a try. You can contact them at (424) 322-8000 or +1 424-322-8000 for reservations or inquiries.

This is a neat little place I found on Yelp when I was craving some Chinese food. Portions could be a little bit more generous, but it was very flavorful. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes. I tried the veggie dumplings because they were out of chicken. I don't know what was in it, but it looked like minced kale? The soy sauce was ridiculously salty, it's like drinking from the dead sea. Very fast and friendly service. Beautifully decorated inside.

Food: this place is definitely not authentic, very American spin on the food. I would skip the dan noodles, it was WAY too sweet and awful! Ma Po tofu was solid and the dumplings were mid Service: Food comes out VERY slow, and one by one. Atmosphere: is modern and very clean Price: overpriced for mediocre food, understandable bc it’s downtown santa monica and touristy

Absolutely delicious food! Servings are very generous and are family style. We went at a time when it really wasn't very busy just yet prior to dinner. Our server was very helpful and accommodating. The menu was varied, and it was hard to choose amongst so many great options! Our food came out very quickly, our waiter checked in on us regularly, and we had plenty of food left over to take home! Parking was easy in the parking garage nearby, free parking if you're there less than 2 hours! It was only a short walk from the garage to the restaurant. The restaurant seating is fairly comfortable, my only concern with atmosphere is just how loud it is. The kitchen sounds reverberate throughout the dining area and just make it very distracting for me and this was the only reason I put the atmosphere at a lower scale. The place was very clean as was the bathroom!

Very busy restaurant but food was delicious. We tried the crab fried rice and string beans. Good quality food and decent portion for two people. The atmosphere is very basic which does not matter if you are there just to eat. Nothing fancy. There is no parking.

Happen to stumble upon this place while walking around the Promenade area, and it was good. The dumplings we simple and had good flavor. It is a solid location if you're looking for dumplings. I can not speak to the rest of the menu, but given their sign is of a dumpling, I would assume it's their specialty. I am fairly picky with my dumplings, and the wrapper on the Pan seared ones did not hold up and fell apart/open on the bottom when lifting them and was fairly chewy/not crisp. The soup dumplings were tasty but had little soup in them, which was a little disappointing. Overall, I would recommend this place as the service was great, the atmosphere was pleasant and calming even amongst the business of the streets outside, and the food was decent.
