About Dan Dan Boy

Dan Dan Boy is a Chinese Restaurant located at 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002, USA. This establishment aims to offer local users authentic Chinese cuisine.

Customer reviews present a mixed picture of the dining experience at Dan Dan Boy. One customer expressed disappointment with the hot pot soup, stating it contained an excessive amount of oil and was ultimately inedible for them. This resulted in a low rating.

In contrast, another customer had an overwhelmingly positive experience. They praised the food for being "bursting with flavor" and highlighted the "amazing and positive vibes" of the staff. A notable point for this reviewer was the presence of "Ma" working in the kitchen late at night, which they considered a sign of authenticity. They were particularly impressed with the dumplings, emphasizing that they were not "grocery store bought stuff." This customer expressed a strong intention to return, noting the restaurant's popularity which can lead to some items being sold out around 7pm.

Based on this limited information, Dan Dan Boy appears to be a Chinese restaurant that is appreciated by some for its potentially authentic dishes, particularly the dumplings, and its positive staff. However, there is also a report of inconsistency in food preparation, specifically with the hot pot soup being too oily. Potential customers may want to be aware of the restaurant's popularity possibly leading to limited availability of certain items later in the evening.

Currently, there is no information available regarding the environment, specific services offered (beyond dine-in implied by the reviews), or any promotional information.

Ordered Hot pot soup. It was filled with too much oil. I was excited for soup but didn’t eat it after a few spoonfuls. rating 1

WOW! Everything was bursting with flavor. The staff had such amazing and positive vibes. Even Ma came through late at night to work in the kitchen, which was a huge plus for me. I got some incredibly authentic dumplings - no grocery store bought stuff here! My hubby and I are definitely coming back, but it's so popular that many items go out of stock around 7pm.

Wow the Dan Dan noodles were amazing and the homemade chili oil is so good I had to buy a jar of it to take home. Can’t wait for my next visit to explore the rest of the menu. My friends had the sichuan beef noodles and the mapu tofu while they and I got a taste of both so now I’m conflicted on which out I’ll have next. This place brings the flavor!

There are way better options in Union Market. Got the Dan Dan noodles. Not worth your time tbh. The portion was a lot of noodles but not much of anything else, which was a shame. And there was so much oil, which was a negative for me. I also found the staff to be a little curt (this wasn’t someone where I was observing a cultural difference). Not to mention that their menu is super hard to read!! Like why would they make it like that

My husband and I have been multiple times and always enjoy it! This afternoon we got the stir fried noodles and the turkey and bok choy dumplings, and both were delicious. The noodles were a generous portion and a great combination of textures. Since we like a little extra kick, they were kind enough to provide us some extra chili oil on the side. The dumplings were a strong balance of tradition and creativity! We didn’t get it this time but our favorite thing on the menu has got to be the hot pot.
