About Daimo Chinese Restaurant
Daimo Chinese Restaurant, located at 3288 Pierce St in Richmond, California, has been serving the local community for a significant number of years. As a Chinese Restaurant, it aims to provide a range of traditional dishes to its patrons. Over its history, Daimo appears to have built a reputation as a go-to spot for some families, with mentions of it being a long-time favorite and even a beloved place for special family members. This suggests a history of providing satisfying meals and fostering a sense of local culinary tradition.
Initial positive feedback indicates that Daimo Chinese Restaurant was once known for consistently good and tasty food, with generous portions. Customers who had been dining there for years recalled fresh and flavorful main dishes, suggesting a commitment to quality ingredients and preparation. The mention of "excellent service as usual" in one of the positive reviews further paints a picture of a restaurant that once prioritized a positive dining experience for its customers.
However, more recent reviews paint a somewhat different picture, indicating potential changes within the restaurant. One recurring theme in the negative feedback is the possibility of new management or ownership, which some customers believe has led to a decline in food quality. This shift is speculated to have occurred after the pandemic, possibly due to the loss of a key chef. The specific mention of braised beef noodles, once a favorite, now experiencing a decline in quality, highlights the disappointment of long-time patrons who have noticed these changes.
Adding to these concerns about food quality, recent experiences also point to issues with the service at Daimo Chinese Restaurant. Customers have reported poor service from a new team of waiters, suggesting a potential lack of attentiveness or training. One particularly detailed account of a Mid Autumn dinner experience highlights several significant issues. Upon arrival, a customer with a reservation reported being ignored initially by a staff member who was preoccupied with someone they seemed to know. This initial interaction was followed by a rude Cantonese remark allegedly made by the staff member, creating a negative first impression.
The Mid Autumn dinner experience further detailed problems with the order fulfillment. Despite ordering a variety of dishes, including steamed oysters, roasted duck, crispy chicken, steamed fish, twin lobsters, and a vegetable stir-fry, the timing and accuracy of the food delivery were problematic. The appetizer, half a roasted duck, was delayed and eventually appeared to have been given to another table. The crispy chicken order was initially mistaken for steamed chicken. When the crispy chicken finally arrived, it was described as oily and the meat was dry. The roasted duck, a dish previously touted as one of the best in the Bay Area, arrived last and was reported to be undercooked in both skin and flavor, suggesting a rushed preparation.
Perhaps the most concerning aspect of the negative review was the report of foodborne illness. The customers who ate the steamed oysters with black beans and garlic sauce all experienced diarrhea after the meal. While they acknowledged that most of the food appeared fully cooked, they speculated that the oysters might have been undercooked or of poor quality, though the strong sauce made it difficult to discern. This incident raises serious concerns about food safety practices at the restaurant.
The detailed negative review paints a picture of a restaurant that may be undergoing significant challenges, impacting both the quality of its food and the standard of its service. The contrast between the positive recollections of the past and the negative experiences reported recently suggests a potential turning point for Daimo Chinese Restaurant. Local users who have fond memories of this place might find the current situation disappointing, while new customers should be aware of the recent feedback regarding inconsistencies in food quality and service issues.
Despite the negative experiences, it's important to acknowledge the positive reviews from the past, indicating that Daimo Chinese Restaurant has the potential to provide enjoyable meals and good service. However, the recent issues raised by customers cannot be ignored. For local users in Richmond considering dining at Daimo Chinese Restaurant, it would be prudent to take the recent feedback into account. Perhaps ordering dishes that have consistently received positive mentions, such as the roasted duck (assuming quality has been restored), might be a safer bet. It may also be wise to inquire about the current management and any changes in the kitchen or service staff before placing an order or making a reservation.
In conclusion, Daimo Chinese Restaurant at 3288 Pierce St, Richmond, CA, presents a mixed picture based on recent online reviews. While it has a history of being a beloved local eatery with tasty food and good service, recent feedback indicates a decline in food quality and service standards, possibly associated with new management. The detailed account of a problematic Mid Autumn dinner, including issues with order accuracy, food quality, and a potential case of foodborne illness, raises significant concerns. Local users should weigh these recent experiences against the positive memories some hold of this restaurant when deciding whether to dine here. For those who choose to try it, perhaps focusing on previously praised dishes and being mindful of the potential for inconsistent quality and service would be advisable. It’s been a while since I’ve had dinner here and it is still as good as I remember! Dinner was so good tonight and excellent service as usual. Not sure what’s up with the negative reviews, but I have been eating here for years and the food is still consistently good and tasty. We always order a variety of different main dishes and they are fresh and taste good. Generous portions.
This place used to be my family's go-to place to eat, my Grandma's favorite, she liked the braised beef noodles. Recently, it looked like this restaurant was under new management or new owners, the quality of the food declined, we noticed this happened after the pandemics probably they loss a chef. Now, even the service was poor under new team of waiters(new faces). My famy and I had a very bad experience on the Mid Autumn dinner.... When we arrived, I was telling the staff that we had a reservation (time, # of people and my name), but actually the staff who had big eyes was not receiving me, she was greeting to someone who seemed to be acquaintant and ignored us, so I repeated again and she said "ok,ok wait a minute", then I head she was speaking to herself but I could clearly hear she was saying "慌死冇得食咩" was a Contanese phrase meant we were afraid there was nothing to eat, and it was very rude to say to someone especially to the customers. I heard it but did not want to raise a scene because it was a holiday. We ordered 6 dishes: 1/2 dozen of steamed oysters on the half shells, 1/2 roasted duck (their very best in the Bay Area), 1/2 crispy chicken, a steamed whole fish (fresh from the fish tank behind us), twin lobsters (special deal that evening), a vegetable stir-fried with salty shrimp sauce. Food came to us fast, the veggies, the oysters, the lobsters, the fish, and then we realized the appetizer roasted duck not yet showed up and we saw the two roasted hanging in the display behind us were all gone and we still hadn't receive our order, also the crispy chicken not yet showed up. The staff brought the chicken but it was steamed chicken that was not our order, soon she realized someone made a mistake on the order and also our 1/2 roasted duck went to the other table. No one was followed up on the remaining of our orders, until we called the staff over asked for the status, the manager (the one who worked behind the counter) came to tell us our roasted duck was cooking. They sold out the roasted ducks in the middle of dinner time and they had to make new batch of roasted ducks (which we believe they were supposed to be for the next day). After we almost finished all the food on our table, the crispy chicken delivered to us with lots of oil on the chips and the meat was dried. Finally the roasted duck came but the skin and the flavor both tasted like they still needed more time, they were rushing to get the ducks out to the rest of the customers and neglected on the quality. We thought the steamed oysters with black beans and garlic sauce was the best dish, however, we all had diarrhea when we got home after the dinner. All the food was fully cooked, except perhaps the oysters were under cooked or they were bad quality, we could not taste them because the black bean and garlic flavors overpowered the flavor of the oysters. So the food was bad, also the service. Unacceptable.
This Chinese restaurant is one I could and most certainly would think of as home. They are family run and are very nice and respectful. We came 15 minutes before closing but they were. Ice enough to sit us down and take our order and wait for us to finish our meals. They have a large variety of fresh fish and seafood meals along with traditional Chinese food. And let me add that their quantities are MASSIVE and tasty with is notable
Food very tasty. But also extremely greasy. And honestly, a little expensive for Chinese food. The deep fried pork belly is my favorite. Followed by fried rice. Followed by chow fun. Then the roasted duck and soy sauce chicken. Jook next with Chinese doughnut. Dessert weee steamed custard buns. Basically a feast. Everything notes is recommended.
Used to taste good. But this time I tried the shrimp and egg fried noodles, the gravy is too watery. The porridge is still very good which is smooth and tasty. The restaurant is a bit run down which needs some renovation.
