Love, love, love Corner of Tastes! I've yet to have anything that hasn't been incredible. My favorite might be the ping pong chicken, but I'm still working my way through the menu and enjoying every moment. The people here are wonderful, kind and considerate. They offer free soup while you wait.
First time coming here with my family. The food came out hot and in the amount of time that they stayed (
This is the first time I've never seen soy sauce at a table automatically at a Chinese restaurant. And now I know why. It's not needed. My entrees were very strong soy based flavors, to the point of being too salty. It's frustrating. Everything was the opposite of what I expected or wanted. I was expecting the Pong Pong Chicken to be salty, tangy and spicy with a bunch of garlic and onion. It was sticky, salty and that was kinda it. I could tell they use garlic from a jar ("jarlic"), not fresh. And it wasn't spicy at all. Honestly, my wife's dish of the garlic chicken was much better and what I would have preferred. It's just super salty in my opinion. Should be more spicy. We were offered some soups, and they didn't charge us, but they were both not full bowls. The egg drop soup was bland, to the point my wife had to ADD salt... the hot and sour was more of a sweet and sour soup. Even the salad was drenched in sugar dressing. The spring rolls were crispy on the outside, soggy and bland on the inside. The Rangoons (both salmon and crab) were good, but I'm not the biggest fan of melted cream cheese. She likes it, so it's fine. Some of my steamed rice was undercooked and crunchy. That's gotta be a big "nono" in all Asian cuisines. I also ordered the Ron's fried rice, and it's just super confusing of a plate. It's ground beef, bacon, and cheese. It didn't taste particularly cheesy to be honest, and the ground beef was both crispy in some spots and gummy in others. Honestly they should drop the beef and just do bacon or even ground sausage. So, I'm disappointed. But I'll come back and give it another try. But it's just another Chinese place in Vancouver I'm disappointed with. Also, the staff are nice guys, very pleasant and polite.
Listen, I live in Seattle and lived in Vancouver my whole life. With Portland across the bridge, I was bound to be a foodie. Moving to Seattle made me love food even more. Needless to say, I eat and try new places all the time. The food here?? Oh my… it resurfaced childhood memories. It’s so flavorful and unlike other Chinese places🤌🏽 Words cannot explain the happiness my mouth felt when I started eating the Mongolian pasta. It’s a yakisoba noodle, but it’s not any ordinary chow mein. I paired it with some takara plum wine not knowing what the wine tasted like. You gotta really take in the scent of the wine, and let the cherry and plum notes engulf your taste buds. The sweet and tart balanced, smooth, and cool sips pair well with the Mongolian pasta. The ambience is quiet, not dark, not super bright. It allows for nice conversation. The lady who’s always there is very attentive. I sincerely hope this business blooms as it’s a wonderful addition to this area. I’ll be seeing you guys on every visit I take home. Recommending the Mongolian Pasta, crab puffs, and the Takara plum wine.
Corner of Taste is a decent Chinese joint. Their lunch special is a good value. I thought the hot & sour soup was ok. My wife had the egg flower soup. It was better. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken. It was decent. The spring rolls were good but the breaded shrimp was cooked a little too long. Service was very fine and there was adequate parking. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌🏼
