About Cloudland Rice Noodle

Welcome to Cloudland Rice Noodle 云南过桥米线, a Chinese restaurant located at 39185 Cedar Blvd in Newark, California. Situated within the Cedar Center, Cloudland Rice Noodle offers a unique culinary experience, specializing in rice noodle dishes with influences from both Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, it provides a diverse menu centered around its namesake, rice noodles, alongside other regional specialties.

Based on customer feedback, Cloudland Rice Noodle presents an interesting fusion of flavors. One reviewer who sampled the single-cook rice noodles (小锅米线) noted that while the texture was slightly different from their memory of authentic Yunnan rice noodles, it was still enjoyable. Interestingly, they found the flavor profile to lean more towards Sichuan cuisine than the purported Yunnan origins of the shop. This suggests that while the restaurant highlights Yunnan rice noodles, their preparation might incorporate broader regional Chinese culinary styles, potentially appealing to a wider range of palates.

The reviewer who tried the single-cook rice noodles expressed a strong intention to return and sample the house special, the 过桥米线 (Guo Qiao Mi Xian), which translates to "crossing-the-bridge" rice noodles and is considered Yunnan's signature dish. The owner reportedly recommended this dish, indicating its significance on the menu and likely its representation of the restaurant's core offerings. The reviewer's willingness to award a high rating based on a single, non-house-special dish speaks to a positive initial impression and anticipation for their next culinary exploration at Cloudland Rice Noodle.

In terms of its physical presence, Cloudland Rice Noodle occupies a "small storefront" within the visible Cedar Center. Despite its size, its location within the center ensures accessibility for local patrons. A customer who visited on a weekend evening was seated quickly, suggesting efficient service even during potentially busy hours. The owner mentioned that the restaurant has been operating at this location for approximately eight years, indicating a level of establishment within the local dining scene.

The interior decor of Cloudland Rice Noodle is described as "not elaborate, but very comfortable." This suggests a casual and welcoming environment where the focus is primarily on the food and the dining experience rather than extravagant aesthetics. Local users seeking a relaxed and unpretentious setting to enjoy a meal might find this appealing.

Another customer who tried the "regular rice noodle" dish found it to be "ok" in taste but expressed doubt about its complete authenticity as a Yunnan rice noodle. This further supports the idea that the flavors at Cloudland Rice Noodle might have a broader regional influence. While still enjoyable, those specifically seeking a purely traditional Yunnan rice noodle experience might have a slightly different perception.

A unique offering at Cloudland Rice Noodle is the "Yunnan local snack: fried milk curd." This dish is described as crispy with a rich milk flavor and a subtle sourness. Notably, it is made from goat milk, and the reviewer explicitly advises customers to ensure they are comfortable with goat milk before ordering. This highlights the restaurant's willingness to offer regional specialties that might not be commonly found elsewhere, providing an opportunity for adventurous eaters to explore new tastes and textures.

However, not all dishes at Cloudland Rice Noodle have received universal praise. One reviewer had a negative experience with the "chicken cooked in steam pot," advising others to avoid it. They described the portion as "extremely small" and expressed dissatisfaction with the taste. This feedback is important for potential customers to consider when making their menu selections.

Based on the available information, Cloudland Rice Noodle offers a diverse menu centered around rice noodles, with apparent influences from both Yunnan and Sichuan cuisines. The restaurant provides a comfortable, albeit not elaborate, dining environment within the Cedar Center in Newark. Service appears to be efficient, as indicated by the quick seating experienced by one reviewer. A unique feature is the availability of regional Yunnan snacks like the fried goat milk curd, catering to those seeking authentic and less common Chinese culinary experiences.

While the restaurant's namesake and owner's recommendation highlight the 过桥米线 (house special rice noodles) as a key offering, customer reviews suggest that other dishes, like the single-cook rice noodles, might exhibit flavor profiles leaning towards Sichuan. The steam pot chicken received negative feedback regarding portion size and taste, indicating potential variability in the menu offerings. Local users interested in exploring rice noodle dishes with a regional Chinese flair, and those open to trying unique snacks like fried goat milk curd, might find Cloudland Rice Noodle a worthwhile visit. However, those specifically seeking a purely traditional Yunnan rice noodle experience should be aware of the reported Sichuan influences. As there is no specific promotional information available, local users are encouraged to visit the restaurant or contact them directly via phone at (650) 586-9612 or +1 650-586-9612 to inquire about any current specials or offerings.

I ordered the single-cook rice noodles (小锅米线) instead of Yunnan rice noodle's claim to fame, 过桥米线 (house special rice noodles). The rice noodle's texture tasted slightly different from my memory but still feels good. Flavor is closer to Sichuan than Yunnan where the shop is supposed to originate from. But that suites me well. The owner recommends the house special for my next visit. And my next visit will be very soon! (I am willing to give 5 stars even though I only had one dish that is not house special. I will update if the house special disappoints.) Cloudland Rice Noodle has a small storefront, but is very visible in Cedar Center. I arrived shortly after 6pm on a weekend and got seated quickly. The owner says they had been here for 8 years although I felt that I had been in the mall more recently than that. Their interior decor is not elaborate, but very comfortable.

Regular rice noodle. It tastes ok but I don’t think it is exact authentic Yunnan rice noodle. We also tried the Yunnan local snack: fried milk curd. It is crispy and has abundant milk flavor and a little sourness to it. It is made of goat milk. Be sure that you are ok with goat milk before ordering. The last thing was chicken cooked in steam pot. Avoid this dish. It is extremely small and I don’t love the taste.

The food is excellent, though quite pricey ($20 per person not including tips) 過橋米線 is especially ready good. They only accept cash if your order is $20 or below, and always seem very busy and a bit understaffed.

Popular and authentic southwestern Chinese Yunnan regional cuisine. Known for Crossing-Bridge Rice Noodle 過橋米線. We went as soon as it opened. There was a long line of diners waiting when we finished our lunch. We were politely asked to leave as we finished our meal because so many people were waiting. We ordered: 4*Crossing-Bridge Rice Noodle 過橋米線 included hot broth, rice noodles, vegetables, and meat. I added hot chili sauce for better taste. 3*Fried Dairy Fan 大理炸乳扇: it was precooked and served cold. I wouldn’t have ordered it if If I had known that. I like fried food served hot. 4*Fried Wild Boletus 油炸野生牛肝菌: it was the real McCoy, authentic and delicious, but the portion was very small.
