About Chow Mein Express
Welcome to Chow Mein Express, a Chinese restaurant situated within the bustling environment of Honolulu's airport, located at 300 Rodgers Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96819, USA. As an airport-based Chinese eatery, Chow Mein Express caters to travelers and airport staff seeking a quick and convenient meal of familiar American Chinese cuisine. While no phone number is provided in the available information, its location within the airport suggests accessibility for those within the terminal.
Chow Mein Express operates within the context of airport dining, which often comes with specific expectations regarding price, speed of service, and food quality. Reviews for Chow Mein Express present a somewhat mixed picture, indicating that experiences can vary. It's important for potential customers to consider these varying perspectives when deciding whether to dine here.
One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction, describing the Chinese food as "barely edible." They provided pricing information as of September 2024, noting that a 2-item combo cost $14.99 and a 3-item combo was priced at $16.99. This gives potential customers an idea of the cost of a meal. The reviewer found the Orange Chicken to be "actually good," offering a specific positive note. However, they criticized other dishes, stating that the Spicy Chicken, despite containing seven dried chili peppers, lacked any spiciness or flavor. Similarly, the Mushroom Chicken was described as "pretty flavorless." This review suggests that while some dishes might be acceptable, others may not meet expectations in terms of taste and flavor profiles.
In contrast to this negative experience, another reviewer had a surprisingly positive encounter. They acknowledged the existence of "lots of bad reviews" but stated that their own experience was quite different. They contextualized their review by emphasizing that Chow Mein Express is "basic Chinese food served at an airport." Within this context, they found the food to be "amazing" and "so reasonably priced." This suggests that expectations based on typical airport food might influence one's perception of the quality and value offered by Chow Mein Express. This reviewer appreciated the base option of either fried rice or chow mein, choosing the "well prepared and tasty" fried rice. They also praised the Broccoli and Beef, noting its "amazing" taste and the "al denté" texture of the broccoli, which aligned with their preference. Additionally, they enjoyed the Spicy Mongolian Beef, highlighting its "strong savory flavor." This reviewer found everything to be "very fresh, tasty, hot, and plentiful," concluding that they were "stuffed" and would be "excited to go back and have again." They also mentioned that their companions, whom they described as "very picky," also thought the food was great.
The service at Chow Mein Express was described by the positive reviewer as "kind and quick." This is an important aspect of airport dining, where travelers often have limited time. Efficient and friendly service can significantly enhance the overall dining experience, especially in a potentially stressful airport environment.
Considering these contrasting reviews, the environment of Chow Mein Express is undoubtedly within the airport terminal. Airport restaurants typically prioritize functionality and efficiency to cater to travelers. While the negative reviewer did not comment on the ambiance, the positive reviewer's focus was on the food and service relative to the expectation of airport fare, rather than the decor or atmosphere. Therefore, it is likely a casual and practical setting designed for quick meals.
The services offered by Chow Mein Express include the standard fast-food model of ordering at a counter and receiving food quickly, either to eat at the limited seating available within the food court or to take away to their gate. The mention of combo meals (2-item and 3-item) indicates a common way for customers to select a main dish and sides at a set price. The positive reviewer's experience suggests that the service is generally quick and friendly, which is crucial for airport patrons.
Key features of Chow Mein Express, based on the reviews, include its convenient location within Honolulu's airport, its offering of basic American Chinese food, and the availability of combo meals at specific price points (as of September 2024). The quality of the food appears to be inconsistent, with the Orange Chicken receiving positive mention in one negative review, and other dishes like Broccoli Beef and Spicy Mongolian Beef being praised in a positive review. The base options of fried rice and chow mein are also a standard feature. The service is noted as being kind and quick by a satisfied customer.
Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Airport restaurants may sometimes offer deals or specials, but this information is not included here. Local users who are traveling through Honolulu's airport would need to check the restaurant directly for any current promotions or special offers.
In conclusion, Chow Mein Express offers a convenient option for Chinese food within Honolulu's airport. Reviews are varied, with some finding the food to be barely edible and lacking flavor, while others were surprisingly impressed with the taste, freshness, and value, especially when considering it as airport fare. The service was noted as kind and quick by a positive reviewer. The environment is typical of an airport food establishment, focusing on functionality. Combo meals are available at specific prices. Travelers and airport staff looking for a quick and basic American Chinese meal should weigh these mixed reviews and consider their own expectations for airport dining when deciding whether to try Chow Mein Express.

Barely edible Chinese food. 2 item combo is 14.99, 3 item combo is 16.99 as of September 2024. Orange chicken was actually good. Spicy chicken had 7 dried chili's in my serving but was not spicy at all. No flavor. Mushroom chicken was pretty flavorless as well....
Lots of bad reviews but that wasn’t my experience. This is basic Chinese food served at an airport. With that as context, wow was this amazing. So reasonably priced. Base that is a choice between fried rice and chow mein, I chose fried rice which was well prepared and tasty. With it I had the broccoli and beef, which tasted amazing and the brocoli was al denté, just the way I like it. Also chose the spicy Mongolian beef which had strong savoury flavor. Everything was very fresh, tasty, hot, and plentiful. I was stuffed. Service was kind and quick. I really don’t know what else you need from airport food. Solid option that I would be excited to go back and have again. Everyone with me thought it was great too, and we’re all very picky.
Amazing Chinese food. Very spicy and delicious. The service was great and the staff were professionals.
Food is unseasoned and bland. They mixed old broccoli with fresh and served it. Beef is thinly slice to save cost. Expected a much better taste for the price. Avoid it if you can cause it will not live up to expectations.
The food here was awful. They were out of a lot of items by 12pm. The fountain Coke was gross and the machine wasn’t working properly. The food seemed like it’d been sitting out all day and was barely edible. Should’ve gone to BurgerKing instead.
