About Chop Suey King
Chop Suey King, located at 800 St Louis Ave, East St Louis, IL 62201, USA, is a Chinese restaurant serving the local community. The restaurant can be contacted by phone at (618) 274-4430 or via its mobile number, +1 618-274-4430. As a Chinese restaurant, Chop Suey King aims to provide a range of popular Chinese-American dishes to its patrons, offering a convenient option for those seeking Asian cuisine in the East St. Louis area.
The environment of Chop Suey King is likely typical of a casual, neighborhood Chinese eatery that primarily focuses on takeout and delivery services. While specific details about an extensive dine-in area or elaborate decor are not provided, such establishments usually prioritize efficiency and a straightforward approach to service. The setting is expected to be clean and well-maintained, concentrating on the preparation and packaging of food for a convenient customer experience. Its location on St Louis Ave suggests it is easily accessible within the local area, likely serving as a go-to spot for quick and satisfying meals.
In terms of services, Chop Suey King offers the essential provisions expected from a Chinese restaurant. This typically includes takeout and potentially delivery services. The availability of phone numbers allows customers to place orders directly for pickup. Online search results indicate that Chop Suey King is open from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM on Monday through Thursday, and from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, remaining closed on Sundays. These operating hours ensure that customers can enjoy their food for both lunch and dinner throughout most of the week. While not explicitly stated in the reviews, many modern Chinese restaurants also utilize online ordering platforms, which would further enhance convenience for customers.
The features of Chop Suey King are primarily centered around its menu, which includes some distinctive items that have garnered strong positive feedback from loyal customers. One enthusiastic customer explicitly mentions being "close friends with the owners" and praises their "duck legs" as "to die for!!" indicating a unique specialty that is highly recommended. The "St. Paul" is another highlighted dish, with a specific mention of a "shrimp St. Paul with extra mayo," which is a regional St. Louis specialty (an egg foo young patty with lettuce, pickles, and mayonnaise on white bread), showcasing the restaurant's adaptation to local tastes. This suggests a menu that offers a blend of traditional Chinese-American fare alongside unique local favorites. Other common features of a chop suey king menu would typically include various fried rice options, lo mein, chop suey, egg foo young, and a selection of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood dishes, as well as a variety of appetizers and soups. The positive feedback from long-time patrons suggests a consistent quality in certain dishes that fosters customer loyalty.
However, it is crucial to present a balanced view, acknowledging all customer feedback. One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction regarding the portion size of duck in their noodles, stating they "only put 3 small pieces of duck in your noodles, mostly bone." This customer also highlighted a specific charge: they were "charged a $1 to put your small order in a big box because I ordered gravy," for an order that totaled $8.35 due to the container fee. This type of extra charge for packaging, especially for a relatively small order, can be a point of frustration for customers and is an important operational detail for prospective diners to be aware of.
Regarding promotional information, no explicit ongoing promotions or special deals for Chop Suey King are detailed in the available information. However, the strong positive reviews for specific dishes like the duck legs and St. Paul sandwich act as an informal promotion, driving interest and word-of-mouth. The personal connection some customers feel with the owners also suggests a level of personalized service that can foster loyalty. Given the unique aspects of their menu, such as the duck legs and St. Paul sandwich, these items themselves serve as key differentiators that could attract new customers seeking something beyond the standard Chinese-American fare. Any value-oriented offerings, such as lunch specials or combination platters, would typically be found by inquiring directly with the restaurant or checking their menu online.
Customer service experiences are also noted in the reviews. The positive relationship with the owners mentioned by one customer suggests a friendly and attentive approach for regular patrons. However, the dissatisfaction expressed over the duck portion and the extra container charge indicates potential areas where customer expectations regarding value and transparency might differ from the restaurant's operational policies. Such issues can impact customer satisfaction, especially for those who are not regular patrons. The "sick of these places getting over" sentiment implies a general frustration with perceived nickel-and-diming in the industry, which Chop Suey King should be mindful of.
In conclusion, Chop Suey King at 800 St Louis Ave, East St Louis, IL 62201, is a Chinese restaurant known for certain unique and highly-praised dishes, such as their duck legs and the regional St. Paul sandwich. It offers convenient takeout services throughout most of the week. While the restaurant enjoys loyalty from some customers who appreciate the food quality and friendly relationship with the owners, potential patrons should be aware of specific operational details, such as reported small portions for certain meats and potential extra charges for containers, particularly if ordering gravy. Despite these points of concern, the standout quality of specific menu items makes Chop Suey King a noteworthy option for Chinese cuisine in East St. Louis, particularly for those looking to try their highly recommended specialties.

I love this place with all my heart I’m close friends with the owners and they always take good care of me. I love their food so much and their duck legs are to die for!! So yummy lol! I love their St. Paul as well so good I normally get a shrimp St. Paul with extra mayo!
They only put 3 small pieces of duck in your noodles ,mostly bone . Then they told me they charge a $ 1 to put your small order in a big box because I ordered gravy. The order $ 7.35 but total $8.35 because of container. I'm so sick of these places getting over.
Ordered special fried rice n got shrimp n two pieces of chicken. Ate some of the rice anyway n woke up in middle of night with abdominal pain. Had to throw-up just to get the pain to go away, also diarrhea. Won't be going back.
This use to be my go to place for pork and rice. I ordered 2 duck legs and order of pork and rice with extra pork. While I was there a lady brought her order back from last night and said she hasn't ever had to bring her food back in over 20 years, she said the food wasn't seasoned and the gravy it was in was clear and looked like water. She also said they must have changed the cooks, but the guy at the window said it was the same cook. After I got home and opened my food, i found out that she wasn't lying. The pork and rice had no juice in it and the food was bland. The duck leg juice was clear like water and didn't taste the same. I will not be returning to get Chinese food from here again.
The food was awful I asked that my patties not be burned around the edges and they were left a nasty taste in my mouth and made me sick couldn't finish it rice was hard and starchy eggfoyun is what I ordered with special fried rice and egg rolls and your prices are too high won't be back or recommend anyone else again ..
