About Chop Chop
Chop Chop is a Chinese restaurant located at 501 West 184th Street in New York City. Operating within the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," Chop Chop distinguishes itself by being a Glatt kosher establishment. This means that the restaurant adheres to strict Jewish dietary laws (kashrut), providing a unique option for individuals seeking kosher Chinese cuisine. The "Glatt kosher" designation typically refers to a higher standard of kosher certification, particularly concerning meat.
Based on the available customer reviews, there are strongly contrasting opinions regarding the overall experience at Chop Chop. One reviewer with prior experience working in Glatt kosher Chinese restaurants lauded Chop Chop as being "by far the best quality and tastiest I’ve ever had." This positive feedback specifically highlighted the exceptional quality of their noodles and strongly recommended the beef dumplings as a "MUST!" The reviewer also praised the owner, Matthew Chan, describing him as "a real mensch," suggesting a positive personal interaction and potentially good customer relations. This positive review also mentioned the availability of delivery service, indicating a convenient option for enjoying their food off-premises.
However, another, more detailed review presented a significantly negative experience. This customer reported being drawn to the restaurant based on "fake promotions on Facebook" that led them to travel a considerable distance. Upon ordering three dishes described as "Small" on the menu, they were charged for "large," indicating a potential discrepancy between the advertised and actual pricing or portion sizes. When the customer requested a copy of the takeout menu to clarify the charges, they were informed that only a "sit down menu" was available, further suggesting inconsistencies between online or promotional information and the actual offerings and pricing for takeout orders.
The negative reviewer also recounted an interaction with a staff member, described as "the girl sitting playing w her phone," regarding utensils and paper plates. The customer's query about whether these items were included in the takeout package was met with a nod, which the reviewer found dismissive and indicative of a lack of care. In terms of food quality, this reviewer found the "chicken w / mixed vegetables" and "chicken with nuts" to be "tasteless." The "sesame chicken" was described as "so sugary unbearable," and the rice was reported as "under cook and very little." Ultimately, this customer expressed a strong preference for another Chinese restaurant and indicated that they would "most probably no" return to Chop Chop.
The stark contrast between these two reviews highlights a potential inconsistency in the quality of food, the accuracy of menu information, and the level of customer service at Chop Chop. While one customer experienced exceptional food and a positive interaction with the owner, another reported tasteless food, pricing discrepancies, misleading promotions, and indifferent service.
Information regarding the environment of Chop Chop is not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. Therefore, an objective description of the restaurant's ambiance, decor, or seating arrangements for dine-in customers cannot be definitively provided. The mention of a "sit down menu" suggests that Chop Chop does offer dine-in service, but the nature of the dining space is not described.
In terms of services, Chop Chop offers both takeout and delivery, as indicated by the positive reviewer's comment about getting delivery. The negative reviewer's experience focused on a takeout order. The discrepancy between advertised portion sizes and actual charges suggests potential issues with order accuracy or transparent pricing for takeout customers. The availability of online ordering is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, although the reference to Facebook promotions implies some form of online presence.
Features of Chop Chop include its status as a Glatt kosher Chinese restaurant, which is a significant differentiator and caters to a specific dietary requirement. The positive review highlights the quality of their noodles and the beef dumplings as standout items. However, the negative review contradicts this, describing other dishes as tasteless or overly sweet and the rice as undercooked. The reported issues with menu discrepancies between online promotions and in-house menus, as well as the pricing of small versus large dishes for takeout, are also notable features, albeit negative ones.
There is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews themselves, aside from the negative reviewer's mention of "fake promotions on Facebook." This suggests that Chop Chop may utilize social media for advertising, but the accuracy and reliability of these promotions have been called into question. To obtain accurate information about any current specials, discounts, or menu offerings, it would be best to contact Chop Chop directly via phone at (212) 246-7246 or +1 212-246-7246 or visit their location at 501 West 184th Street, New York, NY 10033, USA. They may also have an online menu or website with current information.
In conclusion, Chop Chop is a Glatt kosher Chinese restaurant in New York City that has received polarized reviews. While one customer praised the exceptional food quality, particularly the noodles and beef dumplings, and noted the positive demeanor of the owner, another reported significant issues with tasteless food, misleading promotions, inaccurate menu information, and indifferent service. Potential customers, especially those relying on takeout or promotions, should be aware of these conflicting experiences. For the most accurate information on their menu, pricing, and any current promotions, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

I’ve worked in Glatt kosher Chinese restaurants before… Chop Chop is by far the best quality and tastiest I’ve ever had. The noodles of any kind are amazing and the beef dumplings a MUST! Plus… owner Matthew Chan is a real mensch! Can’t wait to go back. (Or get delivery 😉)
After so much fake promotions on Facebook drove half hours or more from upper East side ordered three Small dishes from Menu but charged for large asking for copy of take out menus there was none. Only a sit down menu . On line menus posted is not what you get charged for. Asked the girl sitting playing w her phone if chopstick and it paper plates are in package food she nodded . Could care more for her gesture. As far as the taste of food the chicken w / mixed vegetables and chicken with nuts were tasteless. Sesame chicken so sugary unbearable . Rice Under cook and very little. Still prefer the Chinese on 34 th street in NYC . Would I go back most probably no .
We live in the area, but are a bit out of the delivery range. My mother doesn't eat pork and was interested, so she called this restaurant a few times in the past. The man who answered was always friendly, but confirmed that they couldn't deliver to our address, so after a doctor's appointment one day, we decided to stop by for a take out order. The place looked nice and was pretty empty outside of two diners and employees, but the vibe was off as soon as we walked in. There was no greeting, and the woman at the counter looked like she couldn't be bothered - almost like she was upset and/or distracted. I placed my order and waited while my mother sat at a table. A man, who I assumed was the chef brought our order out and greeted us with a smile, but there was another man walking around that started looking at my order and over my shoulder while I was talking to my mother. Super uncomfortable. That being said, the current political climate is uneasy, and this restaurant represents two communities that have had an uptick in being targeted. I can understand being a tad nervous with new customers, but I would hate to think that we were given the sentiment we were due to our race. The food is Glatt Kosher so expect to pay a bit more than usual. Overall, we were satisfied with the food, but I spent over $100 on food for three people, and was polite, so I was disappointed in the lack of customer service. We won't be returning.
Really good sesame chicken. Stay away from Szechuan beef dish. Meat has no flavor and they put like no beef, it’s all veggies. $17 for veggies? Seems kinda steep. The fried rice is below average. Like they gotta step it up big time.
Great kosher Chinese restaurant. Nicest management imaginable and the food is excellent. I would highly recommend any going here.
