Chongqing house重庆山庄 (Hot Wok Express）

I've lived in town for 8 years now and have always driven past this place without thinking much of it. Finally stopped in tonight to pick up dinner on the way home and was impressed by the portions of their combo plate! I will never go back to Panda Express ever again because this restaurant has better food and gives generous portions. It hits the spot for American Chinese fast food. I will be back!

This place is a wonderful stop with extremely reasonably priced meals. I ordered 2 plates with fried rice and 2 chicken types, along with 6 crab rangoons, and it was $21. The food is incredible, I had to force myself to put my fork down! I'm actually EXCITED to get hungry again so I can eat my leftovers. The workers are super friendly, and the establishment is clean. I will definitely stop by again when I get the chance.

OMG! BIG REOPENING!! HURRY UP! I work at the Carle Urbana Hospital and this place is located extremely convenient for me. Right on my way home. I discovered this little fast food restaurant in June 2022 and yes, it was 90-s style place with staff shortage and technical issues. But still good Chinese food inside. Now it is not just reopened after some reconstruction, it was born again! Hot Wok resurrection!! Today they have display on the wall with the menu for you, cook my favorite delicious coconut shrimp EVERY DAY not on Fridays only, have wider choice of food ( chicken mango and something else), free bottle of water to go and modern cashier desk accepting American Express. Friendly staff, 4 smiling people serving you instead of 1,5 tired women running in circles in between drive through window and kitchen. Forget and discard everything bad you heard or read of this place. The food is terrific and prices are at anti-crisis level. I wish this place will not just survive but steps into it's golden times. Thank you for your job, guys! P.S. I wish they had garlic sauce eggplants too...🥲

EDIT: I had to come back and edit my original comment from several months ago. This past weekend, my husband and I went back to the Chongqing house, because despite a poor experience several months ago, it is one of our favorites. We were blown away by how much better our experience was this time around. Not only was the food awesome! The service was fantastic. The kind lady who was serving up the food dished great portions, and the restaurant was both clean and well kept. I love that they have taken steps toward making this restaurant more appealing and I appreciate the quality of food and service that we received. We will definitely be coming back again and I’m our experience was so much better.

Since the ownership changed last year, older reviews may not be reliable. They offer both American Chinese and authentic Chinese food. While I haven't tried the American Chinese dishes, they have many delicious authentic Chinese options that you can order directly from the cashier.
