About Chinn's Restaurant

Welcome to Chinn's Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at 4835 Commercial St SE in Salem, Oregon. As a local establishment in the Chinese restaurant category, Chinn's aims to provide a convenient and satisfying dining option for the Salem community. Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Chinn's Restaurant present a somewhat mixed picture, with both positive and concerning aspects highlighted.

One recent, and notably alarming, experience reported by a customer involved being served tea that appeared to be contaminated with soap. According to the review, bubbles were emanating from the spout of the tea dispenser. Upon closer inspection and a finger taste test, it was confirmed that the liquid was indeed soapy. This incident raises significant concerns about the restaurant's attention to basic hygiene and the safety of the beverages served to customers. This experience, while singular in the provided reviews, is a serious issue that potential diners should be aware of.

On a more positive note, another customer described their lunch experience at Chinn's as "solid." This reviewer noted that while the interior of the restaurant is "very dated," it was observed to be clean. This suggests that while the decor may not be modern or recently updated, efforts are made to maintain a clean dining environment. The same reviewer also praised the speed of service, noting that the food arrived quickly and was served hot, which are important factors for those looking for a prompt lunch.

The food itself received positive remarks in this particular review. The customer ordered two lunch specials, both of which were described as "delicious." Specifically, the sweet-and-sour chicken was highlighted for having a favorable ratio of chicken to breading, with more chicken than breading, which is often a point of satisfaction for consumers of this dish. The portion sizes were also noted to be "huge," suggesting that Chinn's offers generous servings, which could be appealing to those with larger appetites or those looking to share a plate. The reviewer even suggested that light eaters might consider splitting a dish due to the portion sizes.

Beyond the lunch specials, this customer also recommended specific appetizers. The cream cheese wontons were described as the "best I've had in Salem," indicating a potential standout item on the menu. Additionally, the egg rolls were praised for being "super crispy and tasty," making them another recommended starter. These positive comments suggest that Chinn's has the potential to deliver enjoyable and well-prepared dishes.

Another appealing aspect of Chinn's, according to this positive review, is the affordability of the prices. The reviewer mentioned that their total bill with tip for two people came to $36, which they implied was reasonable. This suggests that Chinn's offers good value for the amount and quality of food received, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious diners.

The service, in the context of the positive review, was described as "fast," which is a significant advantage for those dining during a limited lunch break or those who prefer efficient service. This contrasts with the concerning report of potentially contaminated tea, highlighting the inconsistency in the overall customer experience.

Considering the available feedback, Chinn's Restaurant presents a mixed profile. On one hand, there are reports of potentially serious hygiene issues, such as being served soapy tea, which could deter potential customers. On the other hand, there is positive feedback regarding the taste and quality of the food (particularly the lunch specials and certain appetizers), the generous portion sizes, the affordability, and the speed of service.

Information regarding the overall environment or ambiance of Chinn's is limited. The mention of a "very dated" interior suggests that the decor may be old-fashioned and not recently renovated. However, the fact that it was also described as "clean" indicates that cleanliness is maintained despite the dated appearance. Potential customers who prioritize modern aesthetics may find the interior less appealing, while those who value cleanliness and good food at a reasonable price may be more forgiving of the decor.

Currently, there is no information available regarding any specific promotional offers or features of Chinn's Restaurant. The reviews focus primarily on the food, service, and environment as experienced by individual customers. To learn about any current specials or unique features of the restaurant, it would be best to contact Chinn's directly at (503) 378-1997 or +1 503-378-1997.

In conclusion, Chinn's Restaurant in Salem, Oregon, offers Chinese cuisine with reports of fast service, affordable prices, and generally tasty food, particularly the lunch specials and certain appetizers like the cream cheese wontons and egg rolls. The portion sizes are noted to be generous, and the restaurant is described as clean, although the interior is dated. However, a significant concern has been raised regarding a potential hygiene issue with a beverage served to a customer. Potential diners should weigh these contrasting experiences when considering Chinn's Restaurant for their Chinese dining needs in Salem.

Given the serious nature of the reported incident with the soapy tea, it would be prudent for potential customers to exercise caution and perhaps inquire with the restaurant about their hygiene practices before dining. While other aspects of the experience, such as food quality and service speed, have received positive feedback, the issue of food and beverage safety is paramount.

For local users in Salem looking for a Chinese restaurant, Chinn's presents a complex picture based on these recent reviews. The affordability and some aspects of the food are appealing, but the reported hygiene concern cannot be ignored. It may be wise to consider these points alongside other options available in the area before making a decision.

Went in just now. It's not often we go outside our normal spot. I couldn't help but laugh. And it gave me a really good laugh. We were offered tea. Didn't even pour ourselves a glass because soap was just bubbling out the spout. My bf skeptical goes in for a finger taste. Maybe it's just foamy tea?? No it's soap. They served us soap. 🤣

This place is solid. We went for lunch. The interior is very dated but it’s clean and the food is fast, hot and pretty good. We ordered two lunch specials and both were delicious. I ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and was happily surprised to see there was actually more chicken than breading . The portion sizes are huge so if you are a light eater, you might want to split a plate. The cream cheese, wontons were the best I’ve had in Salem and don’t forget to order the egg rolls. They’re super crispy and tasty . The prices are very affordable. I will definitely eat here again. Our total with tip was $36. The service was fast.

Ordered out for lunch. Lots of food, friendly staff! Unfortunately there's a reason the prices are so great... The food was not good. I'm the kind of person who usually eats all of my lunch. Today I kept the chicken and got rid of the rest. The Lo Mein was salty, the egg roll should have been called a burrito (btw the special dipping sauce is watered down ketchup). Then there was a dish I had never had before. A gravy covered egg dish... I ate half to be fair but again, super salty and unpleasant. The two decent 3.5/5 items were fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. My wife had the beef and vegetable and said she would say at best 2/5 stars. The quality of food here has made me be er want to come back, even if the price is amazing.

The first time I had wonton soup not much flavor . This time had the sweet and sweet chicken and cashew chicken still no flavor and the cashew chicken was floating in some kind of sauce ( weird) I added my own pickled ginger and hot sauce to get some flavor. The next time my wor k goes there I think I will pass

We have eaten here a couple times…last week, the food was terrible. Maybe it was only a fluke, but it seemed like it had been sitting in a warmer for 5hrs
