About Chinese Buffet
Located at 7914 State Ave, Kansas City, KS 66112, USA, Chinese Buffet stands as a notable establishment within the "Chinese Restaurant" platform category, specifically offering a buffet-style dining experience. This introduction will provide a detailed and objective overview of this restaurant, incorporating insights into its unique operational aspects, environment, services, features, and promotional information, all based on customer reviews.
As a Chinese Buffet, the primary service model is distinct from traditional à la carte restaurants. It offers a self-service format where customers typically pay a fixed price for an all-you-can-eat meal from a spread of various Chinese dishes. This model emphasizes variety and quantity, allowing diners to sample multiple dishes and control their portion sizes. The environment of a Chinese buffet is generally casual and designed to accommodate a diverse range of customers, from individuals to large families. While specific details on the decor are not provided, the atmosphere is described as having a "casual feel," with "no dress code, no formal attire required, and no reservations needed." This suggests a relaxed and accessible dining space, catering to everyday meals and spontaneous visits.
A key feature, and sometimes a point of contention, of this particular Chinese Buffet is its **"pay before you eat"** policy. One reviewer passionately defends this practice, explaining that it is a necessary measure to combat dine-and-dash incidents, which can significantly impact a small business's ability to cover operational costs, pay staff, and maintain the premises. This policy, though uncommon in some buffet settings, is presented as a practical necessity for the owner to ensure the restaurant's financial viability. This insight provides valuable context for potential customers and helps explain an operational choice that might otherwise seem unusual.
Despite this payment model, the restaurant appears to offer significant value. The same reviewer highlights the affordability, stating they get "3-3.5 plates of food for about $20," which equates to "about $6 a full plate and unlimited soft drink (Dr. Pepper, of course)." This demonstrates that the Chinese Buffet provides a very cost-effective dining option, especially in the current economic climate. The inclusion of an unlimited soft drink is an added benefit that enhances the value proposition.
The service at Chinese Buffet, as described by customers, goes beyond mere food provision. The owner is noted for actively "watches his customers for wastefulness because he cares." This suggests a proprietor who is invested in sustainable practices and mindful resource management, which, while potentially perceived differently by some, is framed by the reviewer as a sign of genuine care and a unique feature. The staff is described as being "family or close enough to it," with the owner often "sit down and eat with their staff much less work beside them." This paints a picture of a close-knit, family-oriented operation that fosters a "wonderful atmosphere for both his customers and his employees." This personal touch and the sense of community among the staff and owner are significant distinguishing features of this establishment.
While the reviewer acknowledges that the Chinese Buffet "doesn’t have the largest buffet selection in the state," this is not presented as a drawback. Instead, the appeal lies in the overall experience: the ability to find "an empty spot for myself to sit, watch a few anime shows and get stuffed." This highlights the casual, comfortable, and accommodating nature of the environment, where customers can relax and enjoy their meal at their own pace. This personalized experience, combined with the desire to "support a small business man trying to put food on the table," suggests that many patrons return not just for the food, but for the supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
Regarding promotional information, a review mentions a "summer special promotion thing" and the addition of a "new dish, which is amazing." This indicates that Chinese Buffet actively introduces new menu items to keep its offerings fresh and engages in seasonal promotions to attract and retain customers. Such promotions, combined with "reasonable prices" and "great food," contribute to the restaurant's overall appeal and value. The "nice services" also contribute to the positive overall experience, making it a "great place to eat for family party or individual dining."
The contact information, phone at (913) 334-1389 and mobile at +1 913-334-1389, provides easy access for customers to inquire about specials or operating hours. Located at 7914 State Ave, Kansas City, KS 66112, USA, Chinese Buffet is positioned to serve the local community. In summary, Chinese Buffet in Kansas City, KS, offers an affordable and comfortable buffet dining experience. Its unique "pay before you eat" policy is explained as a necessary measure for business sustainability. The restaurant is characterized by its family-like staff, owner's personal involvement, and a focus on providing value and a relaxed atmosphere. While not boasting the largest selection, it compensates with consistent quality, community support, and periodic promotions like new dishes and summer specials, making it a cherished local spot for many.

Customer Reviews
For the people who complain about paying before you eat: this man has bills to pay and when 30 plus people run out without paying, it takes away from his ability to pay his staff, perform maintenance and upkeep and keep his doors open. Most restaurants are pay before you eat, so please stop posting self entitled idiotic comments intending to ruin this man’s business and reputation. For the intelligent few: I come here about once a week for 3-3.5 plates of food for about $20. At $6 a full plate and unlimited soft drink (Dr. Pepper, of course) that’s a great deal given the economy we are currently in. The man watches his customers for wastefulness because he cares. How many restaurants can say that they actively watch their wastefulness or care for that matter? It’s got a casual feel to the place. There’s no dress code, no formal attire required, and no reservations needed. The staff are family or close enough to it. How many owners sit down and eat with their staff much less work beside them? I don’t keep coming back because he has the largest buffet selection in the state, because he doesn’t. I don’t keep coming back because I can always find an empty spot for myself to sit, watch a few anime shows and get stuffed. That’s my normal routine. I come back again and again to support a small business man trying to put food on the table while creating a wonderful atmosphere for both his customers and his employees.
This is a great place to eat for family party or individual dining. They have reasonable prices, nice services, along with great food. I see they’ve added a new dish, which is amazing, and are doing a summer special promotion thing. I think this is a great value and you should give it a try!
Went today after 5, had to pay first before you could eat. Had the man behind the cash windows rubbing his nose and coughing and then had a Asian boy running around on his phone and blowing his nose and coughing , no one sanitizing their hands , handling food and utensils, then on the other side of my booth 2 girls running around and giving massages to a relative , won't go back , place could be cleaner and freshened up , it wasn't worth 14.55.I t was a mess.
The staff and the food was on point and absolutely enjoyable . I highly recommend this place for a good meal.
Sub par food unfortunately everything tasted like gravy or soy sauce. The pay before you eat was an added unusual surprise. Desert was better then most so that was a plus.
