About Chinatown Restaurant

Chinatown Restaurant is a Chinese Restaurant located at 218 Harrison Ave in Harrison, New Jersey. This establishment offers a menu of authentic Chinese dishes and is appreciated by customers for several aspects of its dining experience.

Customers have described the food as delicious, with generous portions offered at a fair price. While one reviewer noted that some dishes were a bit too salty for their preference, the overall taste experience seems positive. The restaurant features an authentic Chinese menu, which is a notable aspect for those seeking traditional flavors. A particular highlight mentioned is the serving of some dishes, such as fish fillet with fermented vegetables, chicken with chestnut, and seafood casserole, in clay pots, which customers found appealing.

The service at Chinatown Restaurant is generally considered good, with waitresses being described as very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is also noted for its ability to accommodate larger groups quickly, as one review mentioned a party of six being seated promptly at 8 pm, with food arriving incredibly fast after ordering.

Popular dishes include the lo mein and a variety of soups (egg drop, hot and sour, wonton, and chicken and rice), which were all described as very delicious. The chicken wings and General Tsao’s chicken also received positive feedback. However, some dishes like the Mongolian beef and scallion pancakes were not as favored by one family.

A significant point to consider is the restaurant's popularity, which has led to them running out of certain menu items, including duck, eggplant, and soup crispies. Additionally, Chinatown Restaurant currently does not have a sushi chef and is therefore not serving sushi, which reportedly constitutes a significant portion of their usual menu.

The atmosphere is described as "ok," and the restaurant offers street parking for patrons. Despite the issues with food availability and the lack of sushi, one reviewer stated they would definitely return if in the area again, suggesting a positive overall impression, with the caveat of visiting earlier in the day to avoid items being sold out.

In summary, Chinatown Restaurant in Harrison, NJ, offers tasty and authentic Chinese cuisine with generous portions and friendly service at reasonable prices. Dishes served in clay pots are a notable feature. However, customers should be aware that the restaurant can get very popular, leading to certain dishes being unavailable, and that sushi is currently not on the menu. Street parking is the available option.

Food was delicious (a bit too salty for me), portion was generous, price was fair, service was good, & atmosphere was ok. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Appreciate the authentic Chinese menu. We ordered 4 dishes, except the bean curd with baby bok choy, 3 came in clay pots (fish fillet with fermented vegetables, chicken with chestnut & seafood casserole), which we really appreciate. Street parking.

My family and I were a party of six, and we needed somewhere to eat at 8pm. They were very accommodating and seated us quickly, and our food came out incredibly soon after we ordered! The lo mein was very delicious, as were all the soups we ordered (egg drop, hot and sour, wonton, and chicken and rice.) The chicken wings and General Tsao’s chicken were both great, though my family wasn’t a huge fan of the Mongolian beef or scallion pancakes. The worst part of the experience was the fact that they are so popular that they had run out of a lot of the food we initially wanted to order- the duck, the eggplant, and even the crispies that go in the soup! They also do not currently have a sushi chef, so they are not serving sushi, which gets rid of half their menu. If we ever are in this part of New Jersey again, we will definitely stop back by… but earlier in the day before they run out of food!

I love Chinese food and this was so disappointing. First Paying $50 for food was insanely overpriced, but I gave it the chance since some of the reviews, etc. But when I tell you the flavor was so bad, I spit the sesame chicken out. It smelled so old. The Lomein was horrible as well as the fried dumplings. Everything lacked flavor and just tasted old. Egg rolls tasted like dough. Overall don’t spend your money. You will regret it. I wish I could get a refund.

A spacious and cozy restaurant with an upper level when it's busy. The menu is in both Chinese and English and they have chopsticks and forks and knives for convenience. The service is fast and the waiters are nice. The food is fresh, delicious, and authentic. The decor makes the restaurant welcoming. It might not have parking spaces nearby. I recommend the Tomato Egg Soup to start off. There is a well cleaned and thoroughly maintained restroom, and the floor seems to be swept and shined often, as it is very clean. There is free WiFi; just ask the waiters for the password.

The restaurant indicates that it closes at 10 PM, but upon arrival, the host informed us that they were already closed. I pointed out that their stated closing time is 10 PM, to which he responded that the last call for seating is at 9 PM. My boyfriend and I entered at 8:50 PM, and I remarked that it was not yet 9 PM; however, he insisted that they were still closed, displaying a rude demeanor.
