About Chinatown Inn

Chinatown Inn, located at 520 Third Ave in Pittsburgh, stands as the last remaining Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh's Chinatown, offering a traditional sit-down dining experience. Upon entering, guests are greeted with a nostalgic Asian ambiance, reminiscent of older Chinese restaurants with its leather booths, prominent use of the color red, and fish tanks.

The service at Chinatown Inn is consistently praised as friendly, fast, and attentive. Diners are seated quickly, offered water and hot tea promptly, and even as the dining room fills up, the service remains excellent. The staff ensures a comfortable dining pace, allowing ample time between appetizers and entrees, and are diligent in refilling water glasses and clearing finished plates. They also provide helpful service with packing leftovers and processing payments efficiently.

A standout recommendation is their egg rolls, which are described as very good, larger and much fresher than typical restaurant egg rolls, and available in various styles, including a vegetarian option. Other highly recommended dishes include the pork fried rice and the pork with mushrooms, both containing a generous amount of high-quality roast pork. For those wanting to sample a variety of appetizers, the Chinatown Pu Pu Platter and dumplings are available.

While one review noted that the food, including dishes like Beef with Broccoli, Happy Gathering, House Special Duck, and Salt and Pepper Fish, might be slightly adapted for a non-Chinese palate, the overall experience remains positive, with the restaurant maintaining its traditional charm and providing commendable service. If you're looking for a classic Chinese dining experience in Pittsburgh with a comfortable atmosphere and well-regarded service, Chinatown Inn is a place to try. Highly recommended! I was looking for a sit down Chinese restaurant similar to ones I had been to growing up, and tried Chinatown Inn for the first time. Atmosphere is comfortable and nicely decorated. We were sat quickly and greeted with waters and hot tea shortly after. Service was friendly, fast, and attentive. Even with the dining room filling up- the service was great. Food arrived at a nice pace allowing time between appetizers, entrees etc, waters were frequently refilled, old plates cleared promptly. I saw other reviews about the egg-rolls and decided to try them- very good and a must have, larger size and much fresher than what you’ve probably had at any other restaurant- available in various styles - including vegetarian. I would also recommend the pork fried rice / pork and mushrooms. Nice amount of great quality roast pork in both dishes. Our server helped us pack out leftovers and cashed out our payments promptly. I’d highly recommend giving this location a try!

Chinatown Inn last standing Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh Chinatown. When you walk in it has an Asian feel I remember when I was young with the leather booths, the color red throughout the restaurant and fish tanks. Staff was very nice and outfit in old Asian attire. We first try the Chinatown Pu Pu Platter and dumpling to try out the different appetizers. Our entree were Beef with Broccoli, the Happy Gathering, the House Special Duck and the Salt and Pepper fish. The food was decent but I found it was made more for non Chinese than actual Chinese. Totally understandable since we were the only Chinese outside of the staff in the restaurant and they probably don’t get that many actual Chinese in the restaurant. But it was still a good experience.

Nice local Chinese restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh PA, my parents used to get food from there on their anniversary each year and bring it home to us kids. Now parents are gone and myself and a few siblings still go there occasionally, reminds us of parents. The food is good, portions are almost sharable they're pretty big , there are 2 sizes of egg rolls and the large is "LARGE" the wonton soup is awesome,, prices are reasonable and the restaurant itself is pretty big inside. Parking is on street which is tough to find or the lot next to it is for customers also. If you're in the downtown Pittsburgh area and looking for a nice relaxed reasonable place to eat id definitely suggest trying this place.

I was in Pittsburgh for a few nights and picked Chinatown Inn to try. Apparently this is the last restaurant in what was the Chinatown district. The building is pretty much original and looks the part inside and out. I ordered the an egg roll, the Kung Po Shrimp and Fried Rice. Service was fast and very polite. The egg roll was huge and tasted good, the Kung Po was good but probably would’ve been better with chicken. The fried rice was just ok, should have gotten the combo fried rice. It was worth the stop and being one of only a few Chinese restaurants in the downtown area I would come again if I was I town.

They are good! Not the best Chinese I've ever had by far but quantity vs price ratio is good and tastes great even the next day. I ordered the giant egg roll which truly was huge but it had a doughy taste inside its possible mine was undercooked but when I told the staff they took it off my bill so no complaints!
