About China Wok

China Wok, located at 204 S Century Ave STE A6 in Waunakee, Wisconsin, serves as a local Chinese restaurant offering both dine-in buffet and carryout services. Based on recent customer reviews, the dining experience at China Wok appears to have both positive and negative aspects that potential customers should consider.

One reviewer noted that the food was "pretty good" and specifically recommended the black pepper chicken and governor's chicken. This suggests that certain dishes at China Wok are well-received and flavorful. The same reviewer also observed that the restaurant seemed quiet for dine-in customers on a Thursday night, with more activity centered around carryout orders. This might indicate that China Wok is a popular choice for takeout among the local community. For those specifically looking for a Chinese buffet in Waunakee, this reviewer mentioned that China Wok does offer one and that it might be worth a visit for this reason. They also noted the availability of ice cream for dessert as part of the buffet offering.

However, the same reviewer also pointed out a common issue with buffets: the food might be "slightly more stale" due to a lack of immediate turnover if there aren't many dine-in customers. This is an important consideration for those planning to partake in the buffet, as the freshness of the food might be compromised during less busy times.

In contrast to the positive recommendation of specific dishes, another customer reported a negative experience with a carryout order. This review mentioned that the rice was hard, with the reviewer unsure if it was undercooked or overcooked/burnt. Furthermore, they found "hard bone like pieces" in the general chicken, which is a significant concern regarding food preparation and quality control. This customer also observed that the staff seemed inattentive, appearing to be preoccupied with their phones. Overall, this reviewer expressed dissatisfaction with their experience at China Wok.

Considering these two recent reviews, there seems to be a dichotomy in customer experiences. On one hand, certain dishes like the black pepper chicken and governor's chicken are recommended, and the availability of a buffet with dessert options might appeal to some. On the other hand, there are concerns about the quality of staple items like rice and the presence of unexpected and potentially hazardous elements in other dishes, such as bone fragments in chicken. Additionally, there is a mention of inattentive staff, which can negatively impact the overall customer experience, regardless of the food quality.

The limited information available in these reviews does not provide a detailed description of the restaurant's environment or ambiance. The mention of a buffet suggests a relatively casual setting with self-service food stations. The observation of few dine-in customers on a Thursday night might indicate a quieter atmosphere for those choosing to eat at the restaurant during off-peak times. However, without more specific details, it is difficult to paint a comprehensive picture of the dining environment.

Regarding services, China Wok offers both a dine-in buffet and carryout options, as highlighted by the customer reviews. The efficiency of the carryout service is implied by the observation of many people picking up orders. However, the negative review mentioned issues with the quality of a carryout order and inattentive staff, which could indicate inconsistencies in service standards. There is no mention of delivery services or online ordering platforms in the provided feedback.

In terms of features, the buffet is a notable offering, especially for those in Waunakee looking for this type of dining experience. The availability of specific recommended dishes like black pepper chicken and governor's chicken could be considered a feature for customers seeking flavorful options. The inclusion of ice cream as a dessert option in the buffet is also worth noting. However, the reported inconsistencies in food quality, such as hard rice and bone fragments in chicken, are significant negative features that potential customers should be aware of.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. No discounts, special offers, or limited-time menu items are mentioned. Customers interested in such information would likely need to contact the restaurant directly or check local advertising.

In conclusion, China Wok in Waunakee, WI, presents a mixed bag based on recent customer feedback. While it offers a buffet option and has specific dishes that are recommended for their taste, there are also concerns regarding the quality and preparation of other menu items, as well as potential issues with staff attentiveness. The restaurant appears to be a popular choice for carryout, but experiences with takeout quality seem to vary. Potential customers looking for a Chinese buffet in Waunakee might find it worth a visit, keeping in mind the potential for staleness during less busy times. However, those opting for carryout should be aware of the reported issues with rice and the presence of unexpected elements in other dishes. It would be advisable for new customers to perhaps try the recommended black pepper chicken or governor's chicken and to carefully inspect their orders, especially carryout items, before consumption. Further reviews and personal experiences might be necessary to form a more comprehensive and reliable opinion of China Wok.

For those considering visiting or ordering from China Wok, the address is 204 S Century Ave STE A6, Waunakee, WI 53597, USA, and they can be reached by phone at (608) 849-9638 or +1 608-849-9638. Given the mixed reviews, it might be prudent to inquire about the freshness of buffet items during off-peak hours and to be specific about any dietary concerns or preferences when placing a carryout order.

Food was pretty good. I think we were the only people trying the Chinese food on a Thursday night. We saw many people doing pick up. I'd suggest their black pepper chicken and governor's chicken. Due to the lack of people the buffet food was just slightly more stale but that's kind of expected for buffets. Worth a trip if your looking for a buffet in Waunakee. For desserts they also have ice cream available.

Ordered carry out yesterday, the rice was hard for some reason, not sure if it wasn't cooked enough or over cooked/burnt. In the general chicken I was finding hard bone like pieces in them. The staff seemed to be glued to their phone. Overall not satisfied with this place.

Food fried in old oil! Buffet was wiped out by some guys coming in and had take out containers filled to capacity, but the entrées were never refilled. Total waste of money 35.00 for two. Ice cream was grainy like it was melted and refroze. STAY AWAY !! NO GOOD

Had a buddy from work recommend this place, won't go to any other buffets now! The food is consistently delicious and fresh, atmosphere is quiet and it's in a convenient location. I'm going to fill up a punch card effortlessly with how often I want to go here 😂😂

Update 04/12/2021 - Buffet is finally open again after Covid, and still outstanding. Best Chinese Buffet in town, and by that I mean all of Madison, not just Waunakee.
