About China Wok

China Wok, situated at 104 NC-54 in Carrboro, North Carolina, provides a readily accessible option for individuals seeking fast Chinese food in the Carrboro Plaza area. As a typical Chinese "Wok spot" often found near shopping centers, China Wok caters to those looking for a quick meal, offering both dine-in and takeout services. Located conveniently for shoppers and local workers, it presents itself as a fast-food style Chinese restaurant.

Based on customer reviews, the environment at China Wok is described as "about average compared to other Chinese Wok spots in NC." The interior space is functional, providing a standard setting for a quick meal. The location benefits from a "good amount of parking space" shared between the various businesses in the plaza, making it easily accessible by car. Inside, you can expect a standard soda machine, although one customer received a bottled Diet Coke instead. The overall ambiance is practical and geared towards efficiency rather than elaborate décor.

China Wok offers both dine-in and takeout services, catering to customers who wish to eat at the restaurant or take their food to go. One reviewer who typically opts for takeout decided to dine in and reported that their order was served within approximately 10 minutes, indicating relatively fast service. The young lady cashier was noted as "friendly" and efficient in taking orders. This suggests that China Wok prioritizes quick service, aligning with the expectations of a fast-food establishment. However, information regarding delivery services is not available in the provided reviews.

The menu at China Wok features a range of familiar Chinese-American dishes. One customer highly recommended the "General Tso chicken," describing it as "amazing" with "perfect" broccoli and rice, and an "awesome" egg roll. This positive feedback suggests that some dishes are well-received and can be a satisfying choice. However, another reviewer who also tried the General Tso in a previous visit mentioned that the "chicken meat quality was a bit better" than the Kung Pao chicken but tasted like it was "more flour than chicken," indicating potential inconsistencies in ingredient quality or preparation.

The "Kung Pao chicken" received more critical feedback. One reviewer expressed strong disappointment that the dish was served "without cashews," stating that "Kung Pao chicken without cashews is a joke!" and highlighting the absence of this "essential ingredient that gives that extra crunch to the meal." Another customer who ordered the Combination meal with Kung Pao Chicken noted that while the "size of Kung Pao meal is fine for a $12+ meal," the "mixture of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and green bell peppers)" seemed to bury a possibly insufficient amount of chicken. This reviewer also found that most of the chicken pieces were "thin sliced" and had a "tofu-like rather than what you'd expect from a well-cooked white meat chicken" texture. They also felt that snow peas did not complement the meal.

Other items reviewed include the "pork fried rice," which was described as "finely cooked," and the "small hot & sour soup," which was noted to be "the same as what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant" with a "good" amount for a small size and served with flour crackers. The "eggroll" was described as "quite bland" with a "chewy, flavorless texture," despite containing bits of pork.

One of the recurring points in the reviews is the plate size. A customer who enjoyed the General Tso chicken humorously mentioned that the plate was "over filling" and suggested that they "need bigger plates." This could be interpreted as a positive in terms of portion size for some, although it might also contribute to a perception of the presentation.

The reviews do not mention any specific promotional information or special offers currently available at China Wok. Customers looking for deals or discounts may want to inquire directly with the restaurant at (919) 929-9988 or +1 919-929-9988.

In conclusion, China Wok in Carrboro, NC, offers a convenient and fast option for Chinese food, particularly for those in the Carrboro Plaza area. While some customers have found certain dishes like the General Tso chicken to be enjoyable, there are also concerns raised about the quality and preparation of other dishes, such as the Kung Pao chicken and the egg roll. The restaurant provides a standard fast-food environment with quick service for both dine-in and takeout. For local users seeking a fast and perhaps familiar Chinese meal in this specific location, China Wok remains an accessible choice, although it may not be the preferred option for those prioritizing higher food quality and authentic preparation.

For residents and workers in the Carrboro Plaza vicinity, China Wok serves as a readily available option when time is a constraint. Its location within a shopping center makes it a practical stop for a quick bite. However, the mixed reviews regarding food quality and preparation suggest that customer experiences can vary. Individuals who value specific details like the inclusion of cashews in Kung Pao chicken or the texture of chicken in dishes may find the execution at China Wok to be inconsistent with their expectations.

The positive mention of friendly service from the cashier is a notable aspect of the customer experience. While the quality of the food itself is a primary concern for many, courteous service can contribute to a more pleasant overall interaction. The speed of service is also highlighted as a benefit, particularly for those on a tight schedule during lunch breaks or shopping trips.

Given the feedback, local users might consider trying a well-regarded dish like the General Tso chicken based on the positive review, while being mindful of the potential issues raised with other menu items. For those with specific preferences or expectations regarding Chinese cuisine, exploring other Chinese restaurants in the broader Carrboro area, perhaps those located more towards downtown as suggested by one reviewer, might be worthwhile to compare quality and authenticity.

Ultimately, China Wok fills a niche for fast and convenient Chinese food in a specific part of Carrboro. Its accessibility and speed of service are its main strengths, as highlighted by its role as a "blessing for a boring shopping center" by one local. However, potential customers should be aware of the mixed reviews concerning food quality and preparation and adjust their expectations accordingly. For any current promotions or to inquire further about the menu and preparation methods, direct contact with the restaurant is advisable.

Some awesome food! I got the general tso chicken and man, it was amazing. The broccoli and rice was perfect. The eggroll was awesome as well! I took a break from my jobsite to come eat and I am very glad I did. The only thing I could find wrong is the size of the plate. It was over filling. They need bigger plates. I will certainly be back if I’m working in the area.

Kung Pao chicken without cashews is a joke! Went here for a quick lunch because it seems to be the only acceptable (and fast) place to eat in Carrboro Plaza. NC people would know that there's always a Chinese fast food place like this close to a Food Lion, and this is one of the many, so my expectations were not big. I ordered the Combination meal with Kung Pao Chicken, pork fried rice, and egg roll. Also ordered a small hot & sour soup & a bottle of diet Coke. Young lady cashier was friendly and took order without issue. I usually order take out when it comes to Wok spots like this but decided to dine in. Order was served within 10 minutes - another employee brought my soup with the flour crackers that go with the soup. As you can see in the photo, the size of Kung Pao meal is fine for a $12+ meal. The mixture of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and green bell peppers) bury some of the chicken pieces underneath, giving me an impression that chicken meat was not enough. As I ate, I discovered that there's a fair amount of thin sliced chicken breasts. Most of the chicken pieces (maybe 5 or 6) were sliced thin but wide - I wanted to slice it to make it fit the spoon with the pork fried rice, which id finely cooked. Somewhat surprisingly, the chicken tasted tofu-like rather than what you'd expect from a well-cooked white meat chicken. I set the few snow peas aside - they don't go well with the entire meal. I realized something seems to be missing. Any Kung Pao chicken lover would know that the perfect Kung Pao chicken always have cashews (or roasted peanuts) but China Wok's version is missing this essential ingredient that gives that extra crunch to the meal. The space inside is about average compared to other Chinese Wok spots in NC. There's a good amount of parking space shared between various businesses there. There's a standard soda machine and sweet tea but got a Diet Coke bottle instead. The hot & sour soup is the same as what you'd expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. Amount is good for a small size. The eggroll is quite bland: Although there are bits of pork inside, the chewy, flavorless texture made me ask, "What in the world am I eating?" Also tried their General Tso in a previous visit, and the chicken meat quality was a bit better that the Kung Pap chicken but tasted like it was more flour than chicken. If you want fast and cheap Chinese food in Carrboro, China Wok is still a convenient option. Although there are a few other Chinese spots nearby (more towards the downtown area), it's still a blessing for a boring shopping center. But if you're looking for a decent Chinese restaurant that serves quality food, this is clearly not it.

Stopped by to get lunch (dine-in). I ordered the mixed Chinese vegetables lunch specials which comes with fried or white rice. The food was tasty and the vegetable was fresh! I also like the plain (no meat) fried rice. Seatings inside available. Definitely recommended!
