About China Wok

Welcome to China Wok, a Chinese Restaurant situated at 205A New Market Centre in Boone, North Carolina. Serving the local community with a menu of Chinese dishes, China Wok offers the convenience of both dining in and taking food away. However, recent customer feedback indicates several areas of concern that potential patrons should be aware of when considering this establishment.

One of the most striking observations from the reviews pertains to the dining environment. One customer who chose to eat in noted that they were the only patrons present, which they felt should have been a warning sign. Furthermore, they described the dining room as also being used by the owners' children and as a workspace for running another business from a laptop. This suggests a potentially unconventional and perhaps less than ideal ambiance for a restaurant dining experience, where the focus might not be solely on the customers' comfort and enjoyment.

The food quality at China Wok has also been a significant point of criticism in the provided reviews. The customer who dined in expressed disappointment with their meal. The shrimp fried rice was described as containing only five tiny shrimp and lacking in taste, also not being served hot. Similarly, the beef and broccoli was reported to be of a quality that would have been better if it had been served hot, and the accompanying rice was also not sufficiently warm. This customer stated unequivocally that they would not return, even expressing disbelief that the owner would serve such food to their own family.

Another customer, who had frequented China Wok in the past due to perceived good food and relatively cheap prices, shared a severely negative recent experience with a takeout order. Upon lifting the brown paper bag containing their order after leaving the restaurant, the bag ripped apart, causing the food to spill and ruin their wife's purse and the interior of their car. This resulted in the loss of half of their $22 order and a significant mess to clean up. The customer's frustration was compounded by this packaging failure, leading them to express strong dissatisfaction and an inability to recommend China Wok.

This same customer also mentioned a sanitation grade of 90.5 for China Wok, which they acknowledged was "not too great" but something they had previously overlooked for what they believed to be good food. However, the combination of the poor packaging, loss of food, and the resulting mess led to a complete loss of goodwill, with the customer explicitly urging the restaurant to invest in better to-go containers.

Based on these reviews, the service at China Wok also appears to be a concern. While the first reviewer did not elaborate on the service beyond the unusual dining environment, the second reviewer's experience with the inadequate packaging for a takeout order suggests a lack of attention to detail and quality in their takeaway service. The failure of the bag to hold the food securely resulted in a significant inconvenience and financial loss for the customer, reflecting poorly on their service standards for takeout orders.

Features of China Wok include its location in the New Market Centre in Boone, NC, and its offering of both dine-in and takeout options. However, the recent customer experiences raise questions about the reliability of the food quality and the standard of their takeout packaging. The fact that the dining room may also serve as a multi-purpose space could be seen as a unique characteristic, but not necessarily a positive one for diners seeking a traditional restaurant atmosphere.

Currently, there is no information available regarding any promotional offers or special deals at China Wok from the provided reviews. Customers interested in potential promotions should contact the restaurant directly at (828) 263-0588 or +1 828-263-0588 to inquire.

In conclusion, China Wok in Boone, NC, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While it offers both dine-in and takeout services, there are significant concerns regarding the food quality, consistency, and the adequacy of their takeout packaging. The dining environment has also been described as unconventional. Potential customers should carefully consider these recent experiences before deciding to dine at or order from China Wok. The negative feedback regarding food temperature, taste, portion (in the case of shrimp), and packaging failure resulting in food spillage and financial loss are serious issues that warrant consideration. While past experiences may have been more positive for some, the recent reviews strongly suggest a decline in quality and service that may impact the overall customer experience. It would be prudent to manage expectations and perhaps consider these issues when making a dining decision in the Boone area.

We were the only ones eating in, and that should have been the signal to go somewhere else. The dining room also severs as a place for the owners kids and running some other business from a laptop. Now to the food.. We had shrimp fried rice had five tiny shrimp, no taste, and not serve very hot. I had beef and broccoli that would have been better if hot. The rice was also not very warm. We will not return. I can't believe the owner would serve this quality of food to his family.

Was frequenting this place for a bit because the food was good and relatively cheap. Tonight. I made our same order and before getting out at the house the brown paper bag it was stored in ripped all over the place when lifted to bring it inside. Ruined my wife’s purse, and I paid 22$ for half of what I ordered(because it ended up in the floor) and I got to clean up a mess!! Yay!!!! It also was in my cars floors board. Nice Szechuan sauce all over my carpets. By this point I didn’t even want the effing food anymore. Why these companies like dos amigos and china wok want to lose loyal customers to save a few Pennie’s on some cheap to go bags is beyond me. Oh and their sanitation is 90.5. Not too great, but once again, I’ll look past some things for good food. But paying 22$ to clean up a mess and lose half of what I paid for makes me pretty angry. Can’t recommend this place at all. Buy some better to go boxes/bags.

Don’t subject yourself to this experience. I know the other options left you wanting, but this place is not the solution. Service. The young man at the desk seemed annoyed that you had customers. He offered no welcome or smile. When another customer asked if he knew how much longer she needed to wait for her order (she said she’d been waiting almost an hour), he didn’t say a word, just walked away and mumbled an update a few minutes later. Atmosphere. Having a greeter with such a negative attitude really kills the hospitality of your restaurant. Being able to see the cluttered stuff on the table behind the counter feels messy. The menus are old and faded. Nothing feels like you care. Food. We ordered sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, fried rice, and wonton soup. The sesame chicken was the worst. The chicken was absolutely destroyed in the fryer. We had to chisel it apart with our chopsticks. The chicken was so crusty that I didn’t know where the chicken ended and the breading began. It tasted like old oil. No amount of sauce can cover that up. The egg roll was dripping in grease. I’m pretty sure you need your oil to be hotter. I actually liked the roll itself but it was prepared badly. The rice was soggy and gross looking. Add more vegetables for some color and don’t let it cook so long or something. It was bad. The soup was good and the sweet and sour chicken was decent. (Not sure why the chicken in that one was edible but the sesame was not). In the end, we couldn’t help but laugh when our dinner was finished with a crushed, stale fortune cookie that had no fortune inside of it! How unfortunate. 😭😭😭

While the place was kinda sketch when we came in (sticky menus, tables, floors) the food was served very hot and tasty. Was still a bit worried about how clean the kitchen might be based on the bathrooms and the fact that the Lunch buffet was still sitting out at 6pm but overall it was adequate Chinese dishes and we had a meal leftover.

I went to China Wok at noon for lunch. I ordered at 12:15 and received my meal at 12:29. I ordered chicken with cashew nuts and fried rice. It was served hot and was prepared nicely. I was surprised that I was the only customer eating in the restaurant. However, they were doing a steady takeout business. I’d probably go back if I had another hankering for Chinese food.
