About China Wok

China Wok, situated at 308 Granville Cors in Oxford, North Carolina, operates within the Chinese Restaurant category, providing Asian cuisine to the local community. Based on recent customer reviews, the experiences at China Wok appear to be significantly varied, with some customers expressing extreme dissatisfaction while others report a positive dining experience.

One highly critical review detailed a very negative lunch experience. The customer stated that they, along with two friends, found the restaurant to be "unsanitary" and the food to be "awful." The specific dish ordered was chicken with mixed vegetables, which the reviewer deemed "not edible." They also mentioned a side of sauce that looked like molasses and tasted terrible, leading to its immediate disposal. Further complaints included hard, uncooked vegetables and a pool of water at the bottom of the meal. The reviewer also noted that both of their friends disliked their food, describing it as hard and appearing to have come from a freezer. This overwhelmingly negative account led the customer to strongly advise against recommending the place, expressing frustration over spending $13 on an inedible lunch and stating that even a zero-star rating would be too generous. This review raises serious concerns about food quality, preparation, and hygiene at China Wok.

In stark contrast, another customer reported a very positive experience. They found the food to be "delicious!" and specifically enjoyed the shrimp lo mein lunch special, which they noted came with fried rice and an egg roll. This customer was so pleased with the egg roll that they ate it before leaving the parking lot, describing it as "nice and crispy." A key aspect they appreciated about the lo mein was the presence of "little bits of char in the veggies and protein," which they attributed to the proper technique of flipping the noodles through the flames of a wok, a detail they found lacking in many other establishments and crucial to the flavor. This reviewer also commended the older couple working at the restaurant that day as "very nice people" and concluded by stating their definite intention to return. This review highlights flavorful food, a satisfying lunch special with generous sides, and friendly service as positive attributes of China Wok.

Given these two diametrically opposed reviews, it is challenging to form a definitive objective assessment of China Wok. One customer experienced significant issues with food quality, sanitation, and taste, leading to a complete rejection of the restaurant. The other customer found the food delicious, the lunch special satisfying, and the service friendly, resulting in a positive recommendation. These contrasting experiences could be due to various factors, such as inconsistencies in food preparation, different menu items ordered, or varying standards of what constitutes acceptable food and hygiene.

The first review paints a concerning picture of the environment, describing it as "unsanitary." This is a serious accusation that could deter potential customers. The second review does not comment on the cleanliness or ambiance of the restaurant, focusing instead on the food and service. Without further information, it is difficult to provide an objective description of the environment. Local users might need to consider the negative report regarding sanitation and potentially look for more recent reviews that might offer additional insights into the restaurant's cleanliness.

In terms of services, China Wok offers dine-in and takeout options, as suggested by the lunch special mentioned in the positive review and the negative experience of dining in (or getting takeout to eat immediately). The availability of a lunch special indicates that they cater to the lunchtime crowd with potentially value-priced meals. The friendly service noted by one reviewer is a positive aspect of their customer interaction. However, the severe issues with food quality and preparation reported by the other customer raise concerns about the overall reliability of their service in delivering satisfactory meals.

Features of China Wok appear to include a lunch special, as highlighted by the positive review, which includes an entree (shrimp lo mein), fried rice, and an egg roll at a good value. The preparation of the lo mein with "bits of char" suggests an attention to traditional cooking techniques that can enhance flavor. The friendly service from the staff, particularly the older couple mentioned, is another potential positive feature. However, these are overshadowed by the negative report of inedible food, uncooked vegetables, strange sauces, and unsanitary conditions, which, if accurate, would be significant negative features.

The provided reviews do not contain any specific information about ongoing promotions or special offers at China Wok, beyond the mention of the lunch special. Local restaurants often have daily specials or other promotions to attract customers. To learn about any current deals or discounts, local users would need to contact the restaurant directly at (919) 690-8835 or +1 919-690-8835 or check for any online presence they might have, such as a website or social media page, if available. Given the starkly contrasting reviews, potential customers might want to inquire about the restaurant's current standards and practices.

In conclusion, China Wok in Oxford, NC, presents a mixed picture based on the two available customer reviews. One reviewer reported a highly negative experience involving unsanitary conditions and inedible food, while the other praised the delicious shrimp lo mein lunch special, the crispy egg roll, and the friendly service. This significant discrepancy suggests potential inconsistencies in the restaurant's quality and standards. Local users considering dining at China Wok should be aware of these contrasting experiences. The mention of a lunch special and friendly staff in one review are positive aspects, but the serious concerns raised about food quality and sanitation in the other cannot be ignored. It would be prudent for potential customers to seek more recent reviews or perhaps try a simple, well-regarded dish like the shrimp lo mein lunch special to form their own opinion, while also being mindful of the reported issues with cleanliness. Contacting the restaurant directly for information on current practices and any promotions might also be helpful.

I highly highly highly do NOT recommend this place. Me and two friends came here for lunch and not only was the restaurant unsanitary, but the food was awful. I ordered chicken with mixed veggies and the chicken is not edible. They also gave me a side of sauce which I immediately threw away because it looked like molasses and tasted horrible. The veggies were hard and not cooked at all, and a pool of water is at the bottom of my meal. Both my friends also hated their food, saying that theirs was hard and looked like it came from a freezer. I am taking my time to post this bad review because I spent $13 and now don’t have anything to eat for lunch. Giving this place 0 stars would be too generous.

Food was delicious! I got the shrimp lo mein lunch special. Came with fried rice and an egg roll. Egg roll didn't make it out of the parking lot lol. Nice and crispy and didn't have to ask. One thing I look for with lo mein is the little bits of char in the veggies and protein. This happens because they know to flip the noodles and all through the flames from the wok. Yes! I hope the picture does it justice. (Many places don't do this. It makes all the difference to the flavor) There was an older couple working today. Very nice people. Definitely will be back!

I know good, fresh & simple Chinese food,it's been a long time since I've tasted fresh fried rice & tasty honey wings...Tip : get the combination orders that come w.egg roll. FINALLY! FOOD worth your hard own money, right? In this day & age isn't it satisfying to actually pay for dedicated services you don't learn that in any school; that's loving of cooking that only comes from the heart...πŸ‘Œ

We ordered 2 orders of chicken wings w/ fried rice and it was shockingly good. The place is a dump and it's takeout only. I will definitely go back again.

Chicken & broccoli is great. I ordered the lunch. Called a few minutes before the store even opened & they still took my order which was nice. The prices were affordable! Thank you for being open on a Monday when all the other Chinese restaurants are closed 😊
