About China Wok

China Wok is a Chinese Restaurant located at 5085 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, USA. They can be contacted at (336) 765-2313 or +1 336-765-2313. Based on recent customer reviews, China Wok is highly regarded for its exceptional Chinese cuisine, friendly service, and a unique, pleasant atmosphere. While primarily serving the local Winston-Salem community, it has even attracted visitors from outside the area.

One enthusiastic reviewer, who drove down from Virginia for shopping, discovered China Wok online and shared a remarkably positive experience. Upon entering, they encountered a Door Dasher who enthusiastically proclaimed it to be "the best Chinese food in Winston-Salem." While the reviewer couldn't personally compare it to other local establishments, they affirmed it was "the best I've had in a very long time," expressing regret that the distance would prevent them from becoming a regular customer. This strong endorsement from someone outside the immediate area speaks volumes about the quality of China Wok's offerings.

The reviewer further detailed their order, which included Bourbon Chicken (specifically for their senior father who typically only eats this dish), General Tso's combo (with fried rice and an egg roll), and bottled drinks. Notably, their father, who usually avoids rice, "ate more than he expected" of the Bourbon Chicken, indicating its exceptional taste. The General Tso's combo was also well-received. The food was conveniently served in to-go boxes along with plates, facilitating easy transport of leftovers.

The atmosphere of China Wok was described as "pleasant with just a few tables," suggesting a cozy and intimate setting, possibly leaning towards a more casual or family-run feel. Adding to the unique charm, the reviewer mentioned that "One of the cooks sang as he worked," creating a lively and perhaps entertaining backdrop. The food was brought to their table by a "friendly and smiling woman," highlighting the welcoming service. The presence of "a child in the corner doing homework or playing on a tablet" further contributed to the relaxed and perhaps family-oriented vibe of the restaurant.

A particularly memorable aspect of the dining experience was the gesture of an "older man" who, as the reviewers were finishing their meal, brought out a "kettle of green tea and offered a cup to us, which I gratefully accepted." This unexpected act of hospitality provided a "nice end to our day" and left a lasting positive impression. The reviewer also expressed anticipation for enjoying their leftovers the next day, underscoring the satisfaction with the portion sizes and the quality of the food.

Another local reviewer echoed the sentiment about the exceptional quality of the food, specifically declaring that "Out of all the Chinese places locally they've got the best fried rice hands down." This is a significant praise point, as fried rice is a staple in many Chinese restaurants. The reviewer further elaborated on what makes their fried rice stand out, noting that it is "The only spot that does not use that canned peas and carrots stuff," suggesting a commitment to using fresh or higher-quality ingredients. They also mentioned that adding chili crisp, sriracha, or other condiments enhances its already "fantastic" taste, even stating they "will go out of my way to get this rice."

While this second reviewer mentioned that "The actual restaurant maybe a little run down a bit," they primarily utilize the delivery service, indicating that the focus on food quality outweighs any perceived shortcomings in the physical appearance of the establishment for many customers. This suggests that while the ambiance might be simple or not the primary draw, the food itself is the main attraction.

The second reviewer also enthusiastically recommended the "yum yum shrimp," describing it as "Fantastic." This highlights another popular and well-regarded dish on China Wok's menu, indicating a potential specialty or a consistently well-prepared seafood option.

Based on these reviews, the environment of China Wok appears to be modest but pleasant, possibly with a family-oriented feel. The presence of a singing cook and a child doing homework suggests a relaxed and perhaps informal atmosphere. The service is consistently described as friendly and welcoming, with staff going the extra mile to offer hospitality, as evidenced by the green tea offering.

The primary service offered is both dine-in (though with limited tables) and takeout. The first reviewer's experience highlights the efficiency of their takeout preparation, with food served in to-go boxes along with plates for convenience. The second reviewer's frequent use of delivery suggests that this service is also likely available, although not explicitly detailed. Customers may want to inquire about delivery options when placing their orders.

Features of China Wok include the exceptionally delicious food, particularly the Bourbon Chicken and the fried rice (noted for its fresh ingredients). The friendly and welcoming service, the unique and pleasant atmosphere (including the singing cook and the offer of green tea), and the "fantastic" yum yum shrimp are also notable features. The provision of plates with takeout orders is a thoughtful touch appreciated by customers.

Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in these reviews. Local users interested in any current specials or deals at China Wok are advised to contact the restaurant directly at (336) 765-2313 or +1 336-765-2313.

In conclusion, China Wok in Winston-Salem, NC, comes highly recommended by its customers for its outstanding Chinese cuisine, particularly the Bourbon Chicken and the uniquely prepared fried rice. The friendly and welcoming service, coupled with a pleasant and somewhat informal atmosphere, contributes to a positive dining experience, whether dining in or taking out. The "fantastic" yum yum shrimp is another dish that receives high praise. While the physical appearance of the restaurant might be described as "a little run down" by one reviewer, the exceptional food and service clearly outweigh this for many patrons. Local residents and visitors alike can expect a delicious meal and a warm reception at China Wok. For information on delivery services or any special promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

We drove down from Virginia to Winston-Salem for shopping and found this place online. As we entered, a door dasher was in front of us and we chatted while we waited. She told us that she was glad we found this place because it's "the best Chinese food in Winston-Salem" I can't speak for the other places in the area but it was the best I've had in a very long time. If it wasn't over an hour away, I would be a regular customer. I love everything but my senior dad only eats Bourbon Chicken, not even the rice, just the meat. He ate more than he expected because it was so good. I got the General Tso's combo so I could have fried rice and egg roll with it. We also got a bottled drink for each of us. Everything was great and it was served in To-go boxes with plates so we could easily bring the leftovers home for later. It was a pleasant atmosphere with just a few tables. One of the cooks sang as he worked, the food was brought over to us by a friendly and smiling woman. a child was in the corner doing homework or playing on a tablet. Later, as we were finishing, an older man brought out a kettle of green tea and offered a cup to us, which I gratefully accepted. It was a nice end to our day and I look forward to leftovers tomorrow!

Out of all the Chinese places locally they've got the best fried rice hands down. The only spot that does not use that canned peas and carrots stuff. Throw on some chili crisp and sriracha or basically whatever else and it's fantastic I will go out of my way to get this rice. The actual restaurant maybe a little run down a bit but I usually get delivery anyway. Oh and the yum yum shrimp. Fantastic.

I've been eating their food for several years. Today, I ordered the Appetizer Crispy Yum Yum Shrimp. The shrimp were good, as usual. Unfortunately, the YumYum Sauce was so water down that it sloshed out of the container. It had no body to it, at all. Makes me wonder what other short cuts they are tak8ng to save money.

The people rating it one star have probably only ever been once. I used to go here all the time with my friend, and we had nothing but a delicious and quick experience being served. The Crab Rangoon and Sweet Chicken is amazing, too. Sometimes they will have their kids playing on iPads near the kitchen but I really couldn’t care less, you can tell it’s just a family trying to make it and if you are respectful with them they will return it and serve you well. Cheers!

We ate here last Friday night and the food was terrific. However, tonight we ordered quite late in the evening and the fried items we ordered were a bit tough and greasy like they had been sitting for quite some time. My daughter had the sesame chicken with fried rice and she said it was good.
