About China Wok

Welcome to China Wok, a Chinese restaurant located at 4269 Bayless Ave in St. Louis, MO 63123, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category serving the St. Louis community, China Wok has a history within the neighborhood, as indicated by customer reviews spanning several decades. Situated on Bayless Avenue, it offers a convenient location for those seeking Chinese cuisine in this part of the city.

You can contact China Wok by phone at (314) 631-1212 or via their mobile number +1 314-631-1212. Information regarding the restaurant's ambiance and interior design is not extensively detailed in the provided reviews. However, based on the mention of fast service and takeout being a likely option, it is reasonable to assume a functional and perhaps casual environment. Long-standing local restaurants often prioritize efficiency and a comfortable setting for their regular customers. While specific details are lacking, you can likely expect a typical Chinese restaurant atmosphere catering to both dine-in and takeout orders.

In terms of services, China Wok appears to primarily offer takeout, given the emphasis on food being "ready fast and piping hot" for a customer visiting from out of state. While dine-in service is not explicitly mentioned in the positive review, it is a common offering for Chinese restaurants, especially one with a long history in the community. A more recent review mentions a customer "stopped by," suggesting the possibility of dine-in or at least order pickup. To confirm the availability of dine-in and delivery services, it would be best to contact them directly using the provided phone numbers. The positive review also highlights the staff as "so polite and helpful," indicating a focus on good customer interaction.

The available customer reviews present a somewhat bifurcated view of China Wok, particularly concerning a recent change in ownership. One long-time customer, who now lives out of state in North Carolina, expressed a deep fondness for China Wok, stating that they miss it greatly and consider it a top priority whenever they return to St. Louis. They described the food as "absolutely amazing and so delicious," always "ready fast and piping hot with so much flavor." This reviewer also praised the staff as "so polite and helpful" and highly recommended giving China Wok a try, emphasizing the extensive and great menu selection. Their repeated positive experiences over the years suggest a history of quality food and service under the previous ownership.

However, a more recent review indicates a change in ownership and expresses concern about new policies. This customer, who had been coming to China Wok since the 1990s, noted a price of $10.00 for a whole order of chicken fried rice. The significant issue raised was being charged extra for their "usual sauces," with the new owners stating they only provide a limited number. The customer, who only takes the amount of sauce they will use, expressed strong dissatisfaction with this new policy, stating they would no longer be a customer and lamenting the change after years of patronage. They also voiced concern that the food quality might decline under the new ownership, as China Wok had been considered "the best around for many years." This reviewer also mentioned missing the old owners, who always greeted them by name, highlighting a potential shift in the personal touch of the service.

Considering these reviews, China Wok appears to have had a strong reputation for excellent food and service under its previous ownership, fostering loyalty among long-time customers. The recent change in ownership, however, has introduced new policies, such as charging for extra sauces, which has already led to the loss of at least one long-term customer. There is also concern about whether the food quality will remain consistent with the standards set by the previous owners. Potential new customers might be drawn by the positive historical feedback regarding the delicious food and polite staff, but they should also be aware of the recent changes in management and policies.

For those considering trying China Wok, especially if you are new to the area or have not visited recently, the positive past reviews suggest a restaurant capable of providing high-quality and flavorful Chinese food with good service. However, it would be prudent to be mindful of the recent change in ownership and the potential impact on policies and possibly food quality. When ordering, it might be wise to clarify the policy on sauces and inquire if there have been any significant changes to the menu or preparation methods.

As a long-standing Chinese restaurant in the St. Louis community, China Wok has likely been a staple for many residents in the Bayless Avenue area. The transition to new ownership is a critical period that can either maintain and build upon the established reputation or risk alienating loyal customers if significant changes are not well-received. The contrast between the glowing review from someone who moved away and the negative feedback regarding the new sauce policy highlights the potential for a shift in the customer experience.

To get a more current understanding of China Wok under its new ownership, it would be beneficial to look for more recent reviews on various online platforms. These might provide insights into whether the food quality has been maintained, if the service remains as friendly and efficient as before, and if the new policies are impacting the overall customer satisfaction. Supporting local restaurants allows the community to continue enjoying diverse culinary options, and hopefully, China Wok will continue to be a valued part of the neighborhood under its new management.

The location on Bayless Avenue is likely easily accessible for residents in that part of St. Louis. The fact that a former resident makes it a top priority upon returning suggests that it holds a special place in the local culinary scene. However, new customers will form their own opinions based on their experiences with the current ownership. It is advisable to try China Wok with an open mind but also with awareness of the recent transition and potential policy changes.

In conclusion, China Wok in St. Louis has a history of providing absolutely amazing and delicious Chinese food with fast service and polite staff, earning high praise from long-time customers. However, recent new ownership has brought about changes in policy, such as charging for extra sauces, which has negatively impacted at least one loyal patron and raised concerns about potential declines in food quality and service. Potential customers should be aware of this transition and consider both the historical positive feedback and the recent concerns when deciding to try China Wok.

One of the things I really miss since I moved to North Carolina is China Wok. I can’t find anywhere in NC that can even come close to touching the food and service. So anytime I come home for a visit, this is top of my list. The food is absolutely amazing and so delicious!! Ready fast and piping hot with so much flavor! The staff is so polite and helpful with any questions you may have. I sometimes go a year without it, and it does not ever disappoint when I return. Highly recommended you give them a try if you haven’t yet. Your hardest decision will be what to get because they have so much great stuff to chose from.

I have been coming here since the 90s. I stopped by today, New Owners. Whole order of chicken fried rice $10.00. However today they charge me more because I got my usual sauces, they said they don’t give but a couple. I only get what I will use. I told them they lost a customer today what a way to start off a new owners. I have never in all my years been charged for sauce, they might want to rethink that. I just hope the food quality does not go down as well. They were the best around for many years. Will miss the old owners, they always greeted me knowing my name.

I have been eating here for over 20 years. I feel that they have the most well rounded high quality menu of any chinese restaurant I have gone to. I have yet to try something that wasn't delicious. Even as my preferences change every new menu item I try becomes a new favorite! The only thing missing is the sister team that used to work here. I believe they are the owners now but that's simply nostalgia talking.

I usually never post stuff like this but given that I am currently pregnant I felt this needs to be shared. I am a first time customer and will definitely not return. This image is a roach body part on my crab Rangoon I found after already eating half of my dish. I'm just embarrassed that I even ate any of it before finding this. I am sick to my stomach and hope health Department checks in on this restaurant ASAP. Truly disgusting I'm sorry I do not recommend this.

I have stopped here numerous times since they are directly on my way home from work. The food has ranged from meh to pretty good. Quick heads up though, if you place an online order make sure to bring your phone in with you when you pick it up. The jackass behind the counter refused to give me my order until I went back to my car and grabbed my phone to prove that I ordered it.
